Program to monitor Yonah temperature! Need testers

Hey guys. I just wrote a program that's supposed to monitor Yonah based chips' Temps.
Basically the program works as follows.
All Yonah based chips out right now are rated for 100C TCaseMax.
What the program does is reads a 6 bits wide field in an MSR (6bits == 0...63), it reports a temperature relative to the TCaseMax. So the way its calculated is Temp = TCaseMax - value.
So the temperature range this program can report is 37 - 100C.

Edit: I just uploaded a version that has a system tray icon. These are the changes:

• When you minimize the program it hides the main window.

• If you left-double click the icon you Hide\Show the window

• If you right click the icon, you get the File menu (Basically "Exit")

• If you left click the icon, you get a Balloon tip with the current temperatures. With CPU/Core enumeration

• If you simply hover the mouse over the icon, you get a list of all cores and their temps

I really hope this works. I just moved to VS2005 and that was a major PITA. So let me know.

Try redownloading. It's sort of a debug version. It will popup a message box and that should have the model number of the chip. And this time there should at least be a TCaseMax value.
Regarding the voltage, it simply reads the current VID setting, it doesn't report the actual voltage applied to the CPU by the board.
Please let me know. Also contact me on any of the IMs if you have time we can debug it pretty quickly.

Ok, update. Thanks to mikeguava and some debugging. I finally got a working version up (0.9.0.7).
The temps might seem a bit high (at least from mikeguava's testing) but its the only way to get them.
I would also recommend of thinking about the temps in a different manner. not in actual C that the program shows but the Delta to the max temp intel recommends for the specific processor.

Temps are CPU internal temps and not the mobo temp probes reading and a bit higher than what you see in BIOS

Nice work. However this is still only a estimated temp, as the sensor is not calibrated, so getting a "true" reading is difficult.

Looks like a real sweet app though.

How so was the difficulty going to VS2k5 (which part) from what?

It wasn't really difficult, it was just a pain to rewrite part of the old code. And to get the program working properly w/o crashing or loosing important data (to the app).
The temps are not estimated. There's also a value in the MSR that reports the accuracy of the diode in question. So far I only checked it's value on one CPU. And the accuracy resolution was ±1C°. This means its accuracy is a lot better than anything a remote diode will read.

Looks splendid, will try it this weekend I think, tomorrow I'll have everything I need :)

This program will also work on a Merom/Conroe, but instead of showing the actual temp like for Yonah, it'll show the Delta between TCaseMax and the actual core temp.

Well this program reads the actual temperature off the CPU die. The temperature read is the delta in C° to Tjunction temperature defined by Intel.
In Intel's docs Yonahs are rated for Tjunction 100C°.
I just uploaded an updated version, it fixes the problem of a step 4 ES chip gets detected as Low Voltage chip one speed grade higher.

Regarding the VID and the CPU frequency.
CPU-z reads the CPU voltage from a mobo Sensor if it can detect one. My program reads the CPU VID setting.
I still don't understand why in most cases it reads the CPU as being at its lowest voltage. (The field I read is documented by Intel as being the "Status" field, so that's the only thing I can go by).
Frequency is a problem. CPU-z detects FSB speed then multiplies it by the multi to get CPU speed. I still use the old and classic technique which in many cases causes messed up CPU speed readings. Just ignore them for the time being.

HWiNFO32 can read the same + more (DTS, VID from CPU and Sensors)...

Why my temps are so high? Version 0.9.0.36

47/39 idle 1.5V on water
60/56 load 1.5V on water
