Freeze Pack Controller

Lets give u the first pics from controller we made. (gsmaster designed-made it for me) ;)
I will attach and a pdf later for instructions.
This controller designed basically for my systems but everyone can use them.
This version of controller can do simple things. Everything a single stage needs. No more no less :)

The parts:
Power Board
Main board
Keyboard( Up,Down,Enter,Escape)
2x16 lcd (in official release will be backlighted blue or black)
Cables,thermosensor


Lets see some fuctions:
*Starts the compressor with the press of pc button
*Starts our pc system at the temperature we have set
*Stops the compressor when u shut down the pc
*Controls two 12volt fans before pc starts via PWM in %values
*Controls two 12volt fans after pc starts via PWM in % values
*Safety temp. Blinking message+buzzer
*Screensaver
*All values can be saved.
It has a lot of secret fuctions that u can see in the manual i will attach later.

No software for this version as i didnt want.

u can remove the lcd and the keyboard from the mainboard and put cables if u dont want to have them all together

Froster is one step in front of us. The guys have experience now.

My first units will be send to guys who has experience in phase change for testing. I have already tested and i didnt found anything wrong but i want to be sure before mass production.

Interesting... I don't mind beta testing :) I feel like I am doing that with froster already lol.

Can you upload some videos of the controller in action / use?

Yes of course no problem when i got back home..

That's a really interesting approach. I like the keyboard system, it's a good way around needing win software to do it.

Good luck with the testing and all that. I hope things go well.

Having 'choices' in the controller department isn't so much about pricing and all that for me, but it pushes everyone to move the technology forward, and that's great :)

How does it turn on the compressor? do you need a seperate contact/relay or is one on the board? What is the maximum amp rating? at what voltage.

Unseen Looks good. I also like the idea of no software. Thinking this would be a good controller for my phase chiller. Fhqwhgads6680 and I should have the chiller up and running next weekend. How soon are we looking at the controllers being avaliable?
Are those Dallas temp. snsors?

i plan on making a controller for my system once it's up and running but i don't have any plans for mass marketing :) good luck

Lot of basic design reading for each components after you select them. Keep in consideration with good grounding techniques and RF noises. (so some buffering components for signals, noise filtering will be nice).
Other than that... not much to say. Half the work is in programming micro controller.

@wdrzal It opens the compressor via relay. 10-12 Amp. Those relays have double contacts.

Can you set the start-up temp on these controllers with the navigation keys? Or is it only with your preset?

And what kind of features can you set with the keys?

For all people on a "budget", once I have some free time, I may post up a little "how-to" on how to make your own phase change controller!!

But at the moment I'm too busy finishing my "own" controller with a graphical display and a lot of nice features...maybe I will write a "how-to" for that kind of controller as well!!

I forgot to mention that if u dont want to use external power for 12v u can use a transformer from 220v to 9v ac. The power board has diodes,capacitors and lm chip. So it is already a mini psu.

Hey Unseen, that key navigation looks very very nice!!

I used some potentiometers in my controller, which came out to be very handy as well...but keys will look a lot better!! :-)

go to radioshack and lookat all the electronics kits available from building simple digital displays to radios to more complex projects. get a book and a breadboard and learn to build circuits.

A guy here in my country already put one in his custom ss. He told me that it worked ok and he sent me a pic...

Another thing i forgot to mention is that if u press down and escape the controller ask you if you want to restore to default values + calibrate the sensor. A good way to calibrate is with ice and water.

People is weird, when we gave keyboard control, they asked for software controll, now looks like buttons is again on top, well, go with button again then :D

Yeah, that's what I said!! What's so wrong about it? I said that everyone who asks me will get one controller, as long as I have time to build them => at the moment I have no time to make any more controllers, because I have a lot of work to do (and yeah, I am an engineer, university degree engineer, I don't know how you call it over there, but that's what I am, a real engineer for electrial energy supplying!!!!)

I think I have to say sorry to Ssilencer, I never wanted to make your products bad or whatever, I always said that the work you did was and is very good!! But you have to accept that there are other people also building controllers, so, do it as you said in this post: competition = good for everyone...

Hi again :) I am back from easter holidays. I have a lot of pm's to answer. When gsmaster came back from his holidays we can start shipping the first controllers to Europe customers.

@Ssilencer - Gross

No need to argue for such a small thing... Here we are overclockers! We are making things for overclocking.
I am going to sell controllers only because not everyone can make one. I dont want to make money from xs members...
By the way Gross i dont think that it is a very good idea a guide to controller because of 220v or 110v!

unseen, it wouldn't be hard to adapt the controller with a simple transformer swap, provided it isn't sensetive to the ac frequency.

The controller is based on Atmel ATmega8-CPUs...they're quite cheap to get, and a programming interface is cheap, too...I'm allready working on the guide, I just have to edit all my plans etc., and write some nice text... :-)

It doesn't matter if you have a 220VAC to 12VDC or a 110VAC to 12VDC-converter, it will work with both of them!! The relais I use is for 250VAC also, so nothing to worry about...

But let's stop talking about me and my controllers, this is Unseen's thread!!

The package dont include transformer cause it is a bit heavy and the shipping cost will be higher than it costs.

12vdc wall adapters aren't hard to come by :) I see your logic there

Get some stainless steel with 1,5mm thickness, a brother who cuts it into the right size, and a dremel => start dremeling, buy a 240x64 pixel graphical display => ask brother to get you some "Makrolon" (kind of plexi, but far better to work with), put it all together...

Serious, I will first post a guide how to build a controller with "normal" display, and once I have my graphical LCD running, I will post a guide on how to build a controller for that kind of displays as well... :)

The G-Froster should read that mate. PM Ssilencer about it, but I don't really think we should be asking about other ppls controllers in unseens thread lol.

It's a nice value controller that Unseen, may pick one up from you at some point.

-200 to +100 is ok for you? ;)

Hopefully never +100 lol.
Now unseen ever thought about using k-type probe? It is bit painful to use AD converter (unless microproc has that capability with good resolution) but it should be not hard to implement if cost is not big issue...

the next model will have :)

I must then change the limits in the program (that will support your controllers) for the chart that shows the temps because now it can read only down to -100 :). I think -200 will be ok..

Here in Greece we work as a team ;) Crmaris is already a part of it.
He writing software for the new bigger model controllers.His programming knowlegde will help us. I have saw his work and he is making amazing job ;)

thanks.. I am still improving it. So far it took me about two weeks but there have been days that i was writing code for about 10 hours without stop:eek: The most difficult part is the communication with the controler(especially if you use the usb port) .

Just wondering, but why not use one of these, you can easily mount it on the back of the case, and then run external power source. Transformer pack. Thats what I did with my G-Froster. I just got a 15v transformer pack. Looks really nice, and adds some bling factor. :-D

This controller needs 9V AC or 12V DC power to work.

The Amperage is depentent on the fans you will use.
The board power supply can give 2A max @12V.
The unit without fans connected draws about 120 - 130mA max.
So the rest 1.87A is available for 12V fans.

The power board has screw in terminals for the power cables.

A little OT: Know what I'd love? I'd freaking love to tap into my 5vsb rail for a controller, what do you think guys? Possible to step up to 9vac, or bypass something on the controller?

Remember most power supplies only have 2A on the 5vsb.

Yes this could be done, but again you have to use a psu for the fan outputs.
A modified controller will work @ 5V but the fans no. A DC-DC converter would draw more than 2A@5V, in order to give at least 12V@2A for the fans
Its a bit of work to do and I dont think it worths it. It may not work with all PSUs.
And something else. The current version cuts off the mains voltage from the PSU so it won't have any voltage @ 5Vsb
