Hi

Some weeks ago I got few rotary compressors ...so I decided to make a single-stage unit with one of that devils, to check how they perform :D .

Specs :

Compressor: Sanyo C-1RV137H11AA
evap: chilly1 patern (made in Poland )
holddown: PCV 10mm
XV: CPEV Fach "PZ"
condenser: 1 kW, 2 row, alu-cu, cooled by orginal 230 V fan

That's stressed with 3000+ Venice @ 3211 MHz on 1.82V ... -55.5*C evap loaded :D (during SuperPI) , CPU around -15 to -18*C .

That's ...hym ..idle ..let's say that's idle - mine CPU has a coldbug when it reach -30*C on CPU, so after 5 second of end of SuperPi run I have got -60*C evap and freezed Windows :eek: ..so really I can't test it in idle ;) I hope will be able to run @ sth like -60*C evap (maybe evan bit lower) idle on simillar CPU like mine .

I think it should be sth about -50*C on evap loaded with CPU like FX-60 :)

Thats a nice peace of work right there.

Yes I have seen a few single stage units here in -80's with no load and -50's with load. Still damn nice. :toast:

Very nice job piotres , i can see that u brazing some metal around [outside] the evap so u can mount the hold down . U can do it more easie -> just drilling around the evap[outside] 2mm and put a safety instead of brazing .

+ So u can remove the safety anytime -> remove the holddown and change insulation <---[example given]

Excellent work! I've been waiting a while to see someone push the SS envelope a bit harder. With all these cascades and DI/LN2 containers floating about, its almost as if people forgot about 'em. :p

Thanks for advice Athens, but with mine way of mounting I can change the brackets easy too ...I'm using seger ring, so I can swap eg. a GPU bracket on the evap in some seconds :) I think that, when You write "safety" You was thinking about a ring around evap, am I right ? :D

Yes it's "K" ... Voltcraft K102 is thermo designed for K-probes only :)

i reckon your idle temps are lower than -29C as my idle temps at 3.5GHz with 1.66v are -31C....shame the CPU can't take it real cold...........that's a monster vcore :eek:

i think that is the lowest noload temp that i have seem.
Drewmeister still makes the coldest single stage loaded systems though at -60c load hight volts/OC ;)


peter are you entering the autocascade compertition. that thing with some ethylene might hit -100c:woot:

Kayl, yes I'll rather enter to autocascade competition, but begining of July it's the eariest time I'll start work on auto-c ...first I must pass my maturity exam in may, than build a single-stage(s) and 2-stage cascade in June, and maybe in July I'll start work on auto-c ;)

Yesterday I have put that unit on mine poor Radeon X550 card :D ...with V-moded card, I was able to bench all time with -60 to -68*C evap in 3D Marks ;) . I hope tomorrow I'll post some pics here from that benching :)

One thing I wonder though, rotary, do they make alot of noise?? - That huge fan must, but, wouldnt it be possible to mount 4x 12mm's instead???

How much is there to gain with r402, 5-10 deg loaded, right??? But idle, will it be higher, colder or about the same??

And one more =)
Is there any chance of another condenser so it can fit into a normal width case like mach II / vapoLS just with a biiiit higher case so it ends up with being a 2*midi tower setup ? :)

Autocascade is one compressor w/ 2+ stages.

this is no auto cascade

Yes, I can fit 4x120 mm on condenser, that wouldn't be any problem .

Changing the gas to R402a or R410a should give 4-7*C boost on evap, both loaded and idle.

Yes, that rotary can be fitted to case which has about 21 cm wide, would be higher only - like 35-40 cm :)

Could someone please tell me whats different about these 'rotary' compressors? Cheers:D !

Good comparison will be car engine. Reciprocating (sp?) has pistons, rotary has vanes...... rotary just circles around while reciprocating moves up and down. Obviosuly, rotary can be tons more efficient properly made (at least in car) as far as size vs capacity is involved. (RX-7 has what... 1.5l engine that pumps as much as what cars with 2.5l engine would pump out... yup it has been my fav car for long time :P)
Also, it seems like rotary compressor can handle much higher temperature without mechanical failure in case of refrigeration circuit. Thus people can run higher vacuum with rotary in general without sacrificing too big of space for really out of world performance like this. Only real con is... it is... loud...
For benching, I see nothing wrong with rotary as big hermatic compressor doesn't get too quiet either. (well granted you bench where noise doesn't bother rest of your family member :P)

OK, I have a question for those who have used or just listened to one of these Rotary compressors. Are they really noisy? Much more than a vapochill?

regarding the noise..............well i also have a pedestal fan pointing at the compressor during the runs to get rid of any hot air pockets inside the box and i can tell you that the pedestal fan on highest speed setting is NOISELESS ahahahahhaha.....so you can imaging the GRRRRRRRRR GRRRRRRRRRRRR GRRRRRRRRRR GRRRRRRRR the rotary is making:D

I have a 6400btu rotary which is the first rotary i've used, and to tell you the I truth I thought it was going to be a lot louder. I'm using it in my single stage and my wife doesn't have any issues with the noise, so it can't be that loud. It does make some noise yes but its definatly bareable for 24/7 use. Maybe its just mine or maybe both my wife and I are hard of hearing lol

mmm.... So different opinions, dinos and sneil... Anyone compared it to a vapochill with fans at 100% ?
I want it for my 24/7, but I'm worried about the noise... :slapass:

Unit is same loudly with no-load and loaded :) ... it's quite loudly ...like almost all rotaries :)

For sure more loudly that eg. Danfoss SC 18 ...

What sort of oil do you use with R507C ? Polyolester ?
Is that compatible with an R22 compressor ?

r507 uses poe

you will have to change the oil in r22 compressor as most of them use mineral oil as it is cheap.

Bara is absolute and the lowest number is 0. Barg is relative to the atmosphere and can go negative.

Yes, those rotaries are known for noise. But reciprocating compressors are not always quiet. My friend Shivani had worked on an old condensing unit (for a commercial install IIRC) that had a 3 ton Brysch variable capacity compressor (which has a crankshaft position sensor and a solenoid that can hold open the suction valve to "skip" cycles). She said that at anything less than full load, the unit sounded like a motorcycle!
