Finally the case is ready for posterity (no bling tho)

So, I worked all day today while I should hav been at uni :D and finally made ready my Final Final Final Mk.IIIb Variant C Bis with extra lazyness configuration of my stacker.

Hereby you shall see portarayed some snapshots of the process of making a silent water-cooled case that doesent look like a water-cooled case :)

My pump, wrapped up in akasa paxmate. Yes its fine, no, it wont meltodwn, yes, im really really realy sure, its been running like this since january, k?
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142379685

Porbably the only person in this forum whos ctually using all 4 slots in the 4-in-3. Must say i felt a little tense balancing tis on my knees as i put it together...
The Yate mounted on it is running @ 5V fixed.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142379807
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142379807

This is the sensor that drives the case fans - 0% @ 20c, 100% @ 30c.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142379807

While i was doing all the other stuff i needed todo, the loop was in leak-testing in the kitchen:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142379807

More to follow...

Bloody MSI and their godawful damnthemtohell PCB design. They couldnt put the NB in more difficult position if they tried. Hence all the snapped-off pins on the Zalman sink there...
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142380246

This is the inline water temp probe - drives the fans on the radiator. 0% @20c 100% @ 30c for now, will fine tune it once i have some logged data. Im using tygon here because the walls are a lot thicker than the masterkleer 7/16 ive got in the rest of the loop. The thin probe got thermal-epoxyed all-over and then glued into a slit in the tubing with soft waterproof glue.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142380246

I've got probes on the underside of the blocks as well (including the NB) as close to the die as possible. On the waterblocks, this is mostly to give me an indication of mount quality. This is the Maze 4....
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142380246
The writing there got transferred over when i stuck it on my X1800XT for a minute to measure tubing... never booted it up like that ofc, but its still marked the block, go figure.

And here's the card that goes on :)
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142380246
Youd be surprised at how much those tiny mosfet sinks help with OCing this baby... on a side note, i wish we could get swifty ramsinks in the uk.

Tha rad and HD Cage mounted: You can just about see the anti-vibration mounts between the rad and case. There's about 0.5mm between the HDs fan and the rad.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142380246

Not finished yet...

Im not sure why the underside of my storm looks a chemical waste dump. Probably my periodical and rather aggresive vinegar cleaning routine.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142381100

Unlike some people, im using pretty much the standard mounting - i replaced the plastic spacers with 6 metal washers, but otherwise no change.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142381100

Yes, its rather messy. But its all the cable-neatening im willing to do - not like anyone ill see it...
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142381100

And there we go. All setup, in its usual place in my living room. I used to have a V1110B which was even stealthyer, but I cant complain. Also, this is quieter, and OCs far, far better.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142381100

Looking good!

Whats those akasa things in the back of your hdds?

PATA->SATA adapters. Mainly for the lesser cable clutter.

We can mate, I just got mine on tuesday.

I had to order them from Americal mind. It took 7 working days to get here by Airmail.

I ordered mine from http://sidewindercomputers.com/ although you cannot use the normal online ordering thingie. You have to email them, more info about that is here: http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/sidew.../worldwide.htm

Good job with your project though mate, my only concern is about the temp probes unter the waterblocks. Would they not reduce the heat transfer between the core and the waterblocks ?

Edit: What are you using to monitor the temps and control the fans ? I notice that you have some sort of PCI card hooked up to the temp sensor on the back, but what is it ?

Nope, bare-die CPU, the probe sits about 1mm away from where the die makes contact with the block.

Its an m-Cuber T-Balancer. Strange side effect of using it to run rad fans is that while load temps are unchanged, idle temps are unnaturaly high - not that it matters. It makes idle REALLY quiet though, especially as Yates respond incredibly well to low voltages and PWM.

I so need to get a stacker.

I didn't even know PATA->SATA adapters existed, I'll have to buy some of those! I wonder if they work with dvdplayers too?

Good to hear that Yate Loons play well with the T-balancer since I've ordered 15 of them from J-Mag. :)

I don't understand why so few use mCubed products like the T-balancer and the miniNG. They're really great products!

15 y-loons? plan on selling any? I am looking for 4 120's for my case, and RAD.

Im not sure about dvd-players. I think they do, take a look on the akasa site. Theyre basically an offboard version of the PATA->SATA circuits which were in all the 1st-generation SATA drives...

And as to why people dont sue them... well, T-Ban + Analog Extansion is pretty expensive compared to a SunBeam Rheobus. Personaly, i find the idea of having to manually tune the fan speeds on a PC powerful enough to drive several ICBMs at once to be insulting.

I had a regular rheobus once but I always forgot to turn down the fans when I went to sleep. Each night when I realized that I had to get up and turn them down to be able to sleep I would have been willing to pay $20. So I think it's well worth the money! :)

But I guess I'm extremly lazy. :p:

I found a PATA->SATA converter in a Swedish webshop that's supposed to work with dvd-players so I guess all of them do. But there will probably be some problems booting from a CD with one of those.

I doubt it. Or there would have been problems booting from the old SATA drives that were just PATA drives with an adapter like that inbuilt. Heck, my 36Gb raptors are like that.

Not all adapters support ATAPI devices (opticals). Abit's serillel adapters were the first available for PATA > SATA Conversion, and their Serillel2 adapters also support optical drives.

Why was I not informed of this! Only problem I realised is that with my cable routing I might need a longer sata cable too, looks neater tho!

Dear lord yes, next mobo i get ill get one for my PX-716A (or maybe just get a 760SA).

Heh, the fuss about the serillel and serillel2 adapters was over years ago, shortly after the fuss about sata's launch...

One of the two mentioned Plextors doesn't read CD's, I RMA'd mine, and NewEgg Sent me another one that didn't read CD's either. I am waiting to hear back from PLextor about getting this addressed.

Huh. Well, I can assure you my 716 read them fine :D

I have a 716SA

will the sata CD rom drives work with amd mobos? When they first came out, they only worked with certain intel mobos.

My Sata DVD works, just not reading CD's

I have the same writer and mine works fine with my dual tyan nforce 4 opteron motherboard. I've burned a lot of dvds with it. the drive works fine in NF4 boards. check out http://www.cdfreaks.com/ you might want to RMA the drive.

hmm... If I had 2 more SATA ports i would get one of the plextor burners.. but i only have one. ohwell.

Here's a screen of part of my desktop, with the T-Ban data piped to samurize. Can you spot the inconsistency? Some of those temp readings must be wrong ;)

whoa whoa whoa. so you wanna get swiftie sinks eh?

however, im here to ask, WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE TINY BEAUTIFUL BLACK SINKS?!
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1142380246

gettin some like those would be a dream come true! me and ozzimark were searchin for some up until just yesterday even!

I got mine from over-clock.com here in the UK... and yeah, id love some, though ive been eyeing those zalman sinks as well, tbh.

These OCZ ones are good quality, but just not v good for the unfocused airflow I have here.

yea exactly, since i already had a set of the zalmans, but wanted the ocz's (and they ARE very awesome), instead of buying 2 sets of the OCZ's and having to cut them for hte sli loop, i did a nice lil mix n match with one set each of the zalmans and ocz's, plus the hotter side of the card is using the ocz's.

anyhoo im gonna go check out those lovely sinks now. im also searching for nice lil black sinks for my mobo ;)

Yeah, they will work fine since the Nforce 250gb and Ultra boards.

The problem back then was that you had to keep the CD-rom on the second SATA bus, which had the limitation to overclocking (no lock for PCI/AGP, and you'd kill your SATA Device). So you couldn't run a CD-rom on one bus, and then your RAID array on the locked bus and expect to overclock at all.

The lock issue has been fixed (well, more like phased out) on the Nforce 4 boards though, so you can now safely use a SATA cd-rom on another bus.

well those analog sensors are very crappy, you´re using an sensorhub? it makes the output of your sensor linear because the analog ones aren´t so and you can get very different readings with a t-ban:rolleyes:

i know that there is a special-edition out there wich is called t-balancer|KTC-edition where this piece is included which is exclusive distributed worldwide by my local compu-store, but i don´t know anywhere else where to get something like this or how to build that:(

EDIT: can be purchased at the t-bam stroe (http://www.mcubed.at/

Whats the difference between a t-balancer xl /w analog sensor hub and the t-balancer|KTC-edition?

the water is apparantly hotter than the item its cooling :s
vcore is also apparantly 2.58v

nice work tho mate, nice work :)

Lol yeah, 2.58v. If it was anything that close my ClawTank would have gone up in fire ages ago XD.

And interesting thing about the water: that was when the connection of my Yates on the rad had fallen off. With both connected, the water sits @ 26c. Anyway, the sensor's gone haywire during the night - looks like i didnt insulate it enough.

Yes mate, im using the Analog Sensor hub. I cant see any KTC edition in the shop?

T-bal KTC over at alphacool

Looks like a T-Ban + Analog hub + Water Kit combo, nothing more....

Allright.. because im an idiot, i obv didnt seal that sensor as well as I should have. Its started going crazy on me, 60c, than -50c, then it just stopped working and started leaking slowly.:(

Thankfully i had some emergency patchup silicone tape, and it was only leaking a few drops an hour anyway... so i decided to wait 2 days for my new mobo, and catch 2 birds with one stone. I though i had been really clever and epoxyes it up enough to seal it... obviously I was wrong
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1143039783

BTw, if you have a stacker 810, i suggest you reverse the bottom grill like this. turns it into a handy tray for your pump:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1143039783

Took the chance to take a good shot of the front under all the grills (and of my fingerprints) - these fans really own, spun right down at idle i cant hear them at all over the hard drives:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1143039783

These mounts own - thanks again marci :D
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1143039783

I realized they were too long though, had to chop part of them off or i couldnt pull the rad out again. Im still locking them into place with the nuts, but im starting to wonder about the usefulness of that. I mean, its not like its going to go anywhere..
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1143039783

...continues...

Having removed the old mobo and the loop, it was time for some open-loop surgery! Quick, get me some zip-ties, stat!
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1143040361

This actually worked really well. I lost about 2" of water in the whole op... I had to unscrew the clamps and turn the t-piece with the probe downwards later though, or it tended to collect bubbles - but something tells me youre not surprised about that :p:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1143040361

The patient has survived, a little leak-testing and we're off - even though my problem is over-tightening of the clamps, not the other way around...
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1143040361

My new mobo after I've replaced all the stock TIM with AS5... looking forward to not having to rely on the zalman NB sink... and not having to run the mem sticks right next to each other should give me a little more peace of mind when OC'ing the memory :)
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1143040361

...continues...

Only 7 and a half hours of work - hey, i was tired - and the transplants are complete. It actually looks (marginally) neater... i think. Im not very big on neatness inside the PC :(
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1143040794

This thing owns: anaolgue probe data on your pc and in samurize, tune the fans with it, setup nb/cpu independent emergency shutdowns... love it. The cables can get a little messy, but you cant have everything. :)
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1143040794

Setting the response curve back to the water-led one - i was running it on CPU/GPU temps for a while, which is fine except it follows the GPU always as its always hotter... plus its just cooler with water :D
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1143040794

And then you sit back and everything (mostly works) and you can see everything thats going on... i just love seeing all the stats live...
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1143040794

One thing though - I hope i dont decide to replace my mobo again for the next.. 10 years? Wasnt much fun, my knees were knackered by the time I was done... in fact, should I mention changing mobo in the next year, can someone whack me in the head with a crowbar real hard? Thanks :)

very nicely done! whats this with the mounts you were talking about? marci helped me out with my radiator/loop upgrade planning too. so i wanna take any tips i can into account before i begin work on the upgraaaaaade

Its item #4 on this page: "O-CuK Antivibration Pump Mounting Kit".

Turns out theyre just the right width to fix a PA onto the sides of the 5.25" mounts of the stacker, just had to get an M4 tap to thread the holes in the PA for them.

Hey, is that a BIC Center Channel speaker in your living room? DV62? 52?

Nope, its a Gale.

thank i i almost hade to make a comment about the sensor right threw the hose, but now when u have fixed it i dont have to, but i did anyways just have to say that :D

but otherwise sweet job, i like many pictures mods, so keep it up, but dont make any risky sensors in the hose with no seal agin

:toast:

Im going to try to get a nice temp probe and stick it in a straight-through tube connector with some thermal epoxy and whatnot. I'll probably get around to doing it in a couple of weeks, i dont much like the t-piece thing.

hehehe, Just found this post, well I have my stacker now, and it is already in pieces, trying to think of what to do with it, and how I can mod it, and where to put what for water cooling. It is less then 24 hours out of the box! :woot:

Lookin good :toast:

It looks pretty good :)

I have a CM Stacker, and I thought about changing the side the semi-filter is on. It was because I thought if I transported it would get dented in easy. Maybe I'll change things around. :)

Keep up the great work!

Well, after a major case of idiot behind keyboard where i brutally murdered my X1900XTX while installing my FCX1800 by - *sniff* goodbye old friend - by screwing down too hard on the mosfet cooler and crushing said mosfets...
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1146747068

Here she is in all her glory...
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1146747068

I guess I was spoiled by the Storm/Maze 4 mounting method: screw down till the spring is all compressed and then unscrew 1 turn. Neway, whats gone is gone, even if ive gone slightly wuss atm, my temps on the GPU block arent that hot because im hardly screwing down at all :P

BTW, here's some shots of this rather nice block. Excuses the lighting quality, camera was dying last night.

Right after flushing:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1146747337
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1146747337

I put a little AS5 between the 2 parts of the mosfet cooler... hey, it cant hurt can it? :P
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1146747337

Eddy, please get the delrin tops done quickly, plexi makes me even more paranoid than I usually am!

..continues...

So anyway, enough crocodile tears, lets get down to business. Or, how to change GPU block without draining your loop or indeed doing very much at all to it - lazyness ftw...

Tip loop until air from t-line is in item to be removed, kink shut tubes, unclamp (over bucket/pasta pot :P), insert new block, reclamp, tip loop until air is back in t-line...
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1146747746

Btw, I checked my water, 3 months on pure DI now since last fillup, its like the day i filled it...
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1146747746

My new baby. Still has the IHS on for now... I'm deluding myself that I wont take it off if its not a great OC'er, but give it 2 weeks and itll be off either way :P
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1146747746

Going a little paranoid before mounting the FCX on my new X1900XT, ShinEtsu pads for the RAM and those Pulse thingyes, + stock mosfet pad. Had to take off the paxmate i was planning to use as padding, these boards bend too damn easily.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1146747746

..continues...

By the will of the shogun, the stock sink will be executed at dawn...
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1146748576
BTW, that box is like 4x the size of my X1900XTXs box. WTG with environmental preservation ASUS... if only there was more padding in there than in my other box :P

Jokes aside, this is what it looks like now, inside the mess that is my case...
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1146748576
Got rid of the fan that was hanging off the edge of the X1900, now I only need the 120mm to supply air to NB+SB+Mosfet+RAM, thats one less noise source :)
I gotta replace that SilenX with another Yate tho.

I must admit I was a little tense until the screen actually powered up from the signal - I actually screamed WE GET SIGNAL at the top of my voice :stick:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1146748939
Damn ASUS and their 1.4v max with dual-cores :P

Well, I have dual cpu bars in my samurize config now... quite interesting, ive never worked on a multi-cpu winblows machine before :)
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1146748939
My temps are nothing to write home about right now, but between the IHS on the cpu, the minimal pressure on the GPU block, and the uncured AS5, thats to be expected.
I wonder about that VCore, its set to 1.35v in bios, CPU-Z gives me the same value.. is my mobo overvolting it? I wonder where i can measure it with a multimeter...

what samurize config is that? its sexy.

*shrug* just a custom one, white meters on translucent black... i switch backgrounds often, and anyway i dislike bling - i run bblean instead of explorer for a window manager and total commander as a file manager, no taskbar, no desktop icons... just a small systray and 2 samurize configs.

Creidiki, I can tell you where to measure the vcore so long as you can get me a high resolution picture of your mobo around the CPU socket. You would need to remove ur Storm and stock mounting bracket though.

Hmk. Ill do that if I decide its worth popping the lid off :)

were those load temps on the cpu? 39C is very good

My load temps are like 42c.

I was getting 39c on my naked FX-53 :P

damn..I wish I could get my load temps close to that...

Well, what do you know. I had totally forgotten to add AS5 in between the CPU and Storm. 39c load. Reckon she'll do 35 if i pop the cap off.

FCX1800 temps a little high, but thats because im being a :banana::banana::banana::banana: and not tightening the screws XD

I need to have a chat with eddy about how much pressure is acceptable for the screws round the cpu core.

a surprising amount actaully.. dont know about the other components, but the GPU can take alot of mounting pressure. its most likely due to the fact that they are HUGE.

Right right, but as you might imagine im a little paranoid, given what happened sunday night ;)

hey! i did my loop rebuild but sadly no chipforce cooler! :( it was out of stock EVERYWHERE i checked SIGH. i wantssssssss itttttttttt

Sorry for the off topic but, mind sharing your samurize config? it looks awesome!

Thanks in advance.
