DEFEAT the COLD BUG on the X1900XTX by Moding it.......

Remember my WR in 2k1 with the 55287 3DMarks?.......Forget it....!.....:D

It was done with the X1900XTX at 909MHz core and 922MHz rams due to COLD BUG problem and under a single phase change..... :)

NOW......How is it sound if we could voltmod it so as to handle up to -100*C (evap) and -76*C ATItool reading?...... :D

BEFORE: At 4127MHz (dothan), I had a Nature 601fps.....
NOW: At 2970MHz (dothan - air), I have a Nature 626fps working the X1900XTX at 976MHz core and 972MHz rams (and haven't even found it's max yet).....;) :banana:

SO it might be between 636 - 646 fps when dothan goes @ 4127MHz......:banana: :D

Let's go back to 55287 marks score and ADD another 40 fps ONLY from Nature.....thas 40x20 = 800 marks more = 56xxx marks total.......Now ADD all the other tests too.......:D

Mods:
Startup VCore 1.35Volts (default 1.1Volts)
Benching VCore = 1.78Volts
VDDCI = 1.75Volts

There's ALSO a little "trick" about the rams which could give you about 30MHz more on air and 50 - 60MHz more under phase change.... ;)

I'll update as soon as I take some photos(maybe tommorow).....;)

Both of them are in the front.......50KOhms 25 turns trimmer and 10KOhms 25 turn trimmer.......

R410 gone due to expiraments on cascade.......First stage as is with R507 and second stage first tested with R410 so as to reach -70*C and test.....AFTER the R410 gas finished, I had to vacum once again and fill it with R1150.....:) :slapass:

1. Put VGPU Above 1.5Volts or as high as your VGA can handle.......
2. Put your MVDDC AS HIGH AS ATItool lets you, thas 2.482Volts......
3. Put your MVDDQ at ONLY 2.151Volts SHARP.......
4. Put your VDDCI AS HIGH AS ATItool lets you, thas 1.580Volts......

Now try to rise your Ram frequency higher than you used to and come back and tell what you've got or not........

This was tested on THREE different X1900XTXs with the worst of them gaining another 30MHz overclockability in rams....... ;)

Preparing for som 01 runs right now and hope the picture from master Hipro is here soon :)

testet one run with only air and 735/830 on my xtx and 3875 on FX57 (cascade)and godt 48,5k :)

NOW.......This is "almost" my maxed out frequency as for this VGA after the mods......;)

It was done with the DOTHAN at only 2970MHz due to finished LN2.......:(

When the VGA showed -84*C on ATItool, it started artifacting so I lowered the cascade's temp......

Some updates about the mods.......NOT good photos though but if anyone could upload some good pics, I could redo them.......:)

You will need 2 x 50KOhms trimmer for the mods(10KOmhs was not good)....

You also have to find YOUR OWN voltage on the VGA......
Mine works with no more than 1.76VCore.......;)

VDDCI was preset at 1.75Volts during boot......I mean trimm the trimmer at it's MAXED Ohmage, then solder it and then trimm it at 1.75Volts.......DON'T change after that the VDDCI within ATItool........You'll not gain much if any - test it a bit though.....;)

Trimm the VCore at 1.35Volts MAX when VGA boots or else it wont boot.......If it doesn't boot, try to trimm it back.....Measure and change the VCore within ATItool for more.......FIND your MAX VCore......:)

Fire up your cascade AFTER you are into Windows and AFTER you have given more VCore and a bit higher frequency on Core and Rams.....OR else artifacts(cold bug) will hit you......When your cascade starts to lowering temp( @ -50*C), give your VGA more frequency on core and on rams......FIND your MAX lower temp on your cascade depending on you VGA........;)

EDIT: If you take a good look at the first and second photo, you'll see that I have replaced one tiny resistor(500Ohms) coz the mods were done on the VGA as is now and not on the table......BE CAREFULL about these tiny parts.....They are very delicate.........

I don't think H<sub>2</sub>O would benefit from more than 1.575V the max ATI Tool provides but I suppose there might be a few cards that can handle it.

It's really no different than the special BIOS'es that were run @ Ibezia on X1800's that fired up with 1.4v default before entering 3D mode, just that hipro's version is hard and allows higher voltages overall.

Well all the extra voltage gives it more power/stability and it is able to handle the cold. It also causes the core to put out more heat wattage etc.

Amazing work hipro! I will not be surprised when you hit 60k, and I know you will! :clap:

VCore mod helps as for the subzero temps........BUT VDDCI helps a lot better for it.......I think that it is the Internal's Memory Controler Voltage......;)

So...the thing is u still have to get a decent card. If it cold bugs around -30°C u aint going to break any records :(
But hey, ATI cards can again be puched a little further now, that's always something good to hear :)

I would guess that the problem is probably the ammount of heat which was used to solder to the Vgpu resistor. The resistor would be very easy to kill with too much heat, considering its size. I've done it myself, and its very easily done :(

Try to measure the R1454 resistor.......It should show 500Ohms.......IF NOT, then replace it with a 470Ohms SMD as I did coz these tiny resistors are TOO DELICATE.......BE CAREFULL.........

VERY true about the soldering heat......It happened to me too, coz I solder it as is(with the VGA on the mobo) and not with much care........but if you take a look at photo 1 and 2, I've replace it with a 470Ohms SMD......:(

Bad news.......:(

I have also killed a cold bugless one within an hour (WR).......:(

I haven't figured another place as for the VCore Mod.......I have to search it a bit.....

Dam i realy vant too modd the vcore but i dont wana try ..... i am so afraid for that i wil kill this card ....

Me and Kinc is going for som CF runs this weekend an i think we realy need more volt too the gpu's,,,,,

Asus X1900XTX@Water (Black Ice ExtremeTriple+Single-Radi) only VGA

1.575V: 770mhz
hardmod boot 1.375V , 1.525V Overclocker: 796 mhz 3-4 minutes ATT test; 789,75mhz <20min
75°C :)

woot i like those clocks software vs hardmod seems that it helps very nicely:D .

UPDATE.......

I couldn't resist so I moded the Ram's Voltage as well........Now I'm 1017MHz core and 1003.5MHz Rams benchable.......The mod for the Rams is quite difficult though.....From 2.5Volts to 2.65Volts, I gained about 30MHz more on rams.......2k1 benchable is 1017MHz core and 1003.5MHz Rams and 2k5 is 999MHz core and 999MHz rams.......:D

IF someone could post a picture WITHOUT the heatsink of the Mos-Fets (of the VDDCI side), I would be delightfull to do so.....There is no way to take off the heatsink again of this VGA......TOO dangerus......:)
