7900GTX vs 7800GTX512 vmoded

7900GTX.....650/1600

well, the timing of ram is been tweaked and hard to overclock too high unless change the timing!!! i saw some companies tweak their 7900gtx not as tight as original to give user some overclock...

My vmoded 7800GTX512
the "original no vmoded" 7800GTX512 is very hard to reach 650 without artifact... also i tweaked the timing of this ram. without vmoded, my seting can only go up to around 1700 (850), very very tight timing, that is why everyone saw my vmoded 7800GTX512 overclock before, the speed of the ram is only overclock to 1950ish

in fact, i feel only the 90nm core is smaller than 120nm, there are not diffierent under same speed!!!

BUT REMEMBER!!!!
there are only few non-vmoded 7800GTX512 can do 650 without artifact!!!

The 7900GTX also gives some points away on SM3.0/HDR :confused:

Good work!

In fact 7800GTX and 7900GTX are the same card, and the only difference is that the 7900GTX has a 90nm GPU.

BTW, 7900GTX overclock like hell, more than 7800GTX. For lots of people that's more than a good reason to take two. :p:

So "maximum headroom" isn't all that different from 7800 ;) This is definitely not a step up as going from X1800 to X1900 seeing as there were tangible differences there, unlike here.

No cold bug and need very little voltage. I was playing with one of mine yesterday for a little bit before I blew out my OS. Just getting started and reached the 900s with the core at 1.7V, didn't get a chance to play with the memory.

Same price too (360)....just took some digging to find out the clocks, damn you newegg :)

I wonder how these puppies respond to voltage....any efforts being made to find the vmod Denny?

I just want to mention there is a trick to overclocking these cards.
At first I had the card in my 24/7 PC on water, no mods, it did 720MHz. When I put it on the cascade at -90C and 1.7V the card was stuck at 735MHz :D

The trick is you have to increase your PCI-e mobo clock. I first moved it up to 104 and all of a sudden the card started to clock. When I reached 122 PCI-e I was at 903MHz on the card.
I got inpatient and jumped the PCI-e to 136 and that’s when I screwed up my OS.

So that’s the scoop, increase the PCI-e, it may even help get more MHz on stock air cooling.

Interesting that the card maxed out at 720Mhz. XFX sent me a price list with SKUs. They are going to have a 750/1900 part on stock cooling. (They had 4 GTX SKUs.) I ordered a bunch. I hope I get an ETA today. When I have them I will post info.

I just got wood. PM me when you get the 750Mhz parts (I want 2 for SLI). I can only imagine where a vmod and watercooling will take these cards....900+? :D

OPP, or anyone else, are the mounting holes for the 7900gtx the same as for a 7800gtx or did the die shrink move them ?

I figure while my card is shipped over to me, I can see if I need to modify my waterblock mounting.

The 7800GTX512's PCB is IDENTICAL (well, not 100%...like 99% though) to the 7900GTX's.

Even the 7900GT has the same hole at each corner layout, but the rest of the points are slightly different, I think (might be wrong at that).

In short, your waterblock will work, regardless if it's just a block or a full-body. If it's just a block, it will also work on the 7900GT, the 7600GT, the 6800s, the X1800s, the X1900s and the X1600s.

I just checked the website. They are different spec than what I recieved. Nvidia has been giving me a hard time over my support of ATI of late. (They gave me a hard time for selling CF and build ATI demos. I find it funny as I sell SLI and would build NV demos if they asked.) So.... Maybe they gave me some false info. (Also they held back my samples. Guess they feared I was going to leak info to ATI. :rolleyes: )

The price sheet I got yesterday had four SKUs for the 7900 GTX. (Dated March 1- 31st)

PV-T71F-YDL9 <--- reference speeds

PV-T71F-YDF9 <--- 700, 1.75

PV-T71F-YDE9 <--- 730, 1.85

PV-T71F-YDP9 <--- 750, 1.9

Also I had four GT SKUs from 470-500-550-600MHz.

As soon as XFX opens up in Cali I will call to confirm. If they gave me bad info I will be mad. :mad:

Also just had a thought. These card use a split clock speed like the 7800 GTX 256MB. I wonder if that could be the difference. (Still the memory is off.)

That is bad info....there's actually 5 and they're much more tightly grouped.

L - reference
F - 665/1.63
E - 675/1.7
P - 690/1.75
D (XXX) - 700/1.8

Even the GTs are wrong

Interesting comparison! I understand, that you have RAM timmings tightened IDENTICAL, on both 7800GTX & 7900GTX ? I'm looking forward to see how far core clock will go, without vgpu mod. Since it's a die shrink (90nm) it should/might give better results without voltage bump.

@OPP,

It's a good news that 7900GTX seems to not complain about the cold! Are you using MSI mainboard/gfx combo?

voltage for 7800GTX is 1.6v which max out at 685/1950
temp is about the same as 7800gtx512 but there are some weird thing
one of the card report 44 while other one is 29...... i switch the slot, the temp result is NOT follows the card
ex. card A in slot 1 reported 44C, while i switch to slot 2, card B will reported 44 and card A back to 28C....

memory clock is at 1700MHz and clock at 675 what sort of memory will it have 1.1ns? or 1.3?

cant get 1680x1050 so i ran 3dmark06 on 1600x1200 with 16AF on the x1900xtx @700/810 (stock volts) and got 4950 so im a little disappointed at the 7900gtx as I had hoped it was going to be well ahead not just similar. :(

anyone else disappointed?

Just got off the phone with XFX.... the price sheet I got had the wrong specs. When I asked were those specs came from. They said it was a mistake. (Kind of strange as I got the pricesheet yesterday. :rolleyes: )

What do you guys think?

BTW I was told the XXX edition is not available yet. So the fastest part now form them is 690. Anyone find the XXX in stock?

Kind of makes me sad. At 750,1.9 on factory air the cards would have ruled.

No cold bug and need very little voltage. I was playing with one of mine yesterday for a little bit before I blew out my OS. Just getting started and reached the 900s with the core at 1.7V, didn't get a chance to play with the memory.

Some people might like all the different clocked versions floating around, but its slightly confusing and makes comparison shopping a bit more difficult than it has to be.

(PS: soon these custom clocks will be like buying clothes... say you need 89fps in FEAR at such and such settings and they will bring out cutom clocked card and try and fit it)

Dude that's only in your contry. Here, 7900GT $399 CAD (fastest XFX) and 7900GTX is $679 (second fastest XFX). That's hardly double, is it?

In addition, you need a SLI mobo (or modded and you still need the bridge) and a PSU which can handle two cards. The 7900GT is probably still a better deal per FPS but not THAT much better.

Im also disapointed cause 7900 dont have AA+HDR and HQ-AF, but i think 7600GT and 7900GT its a god deal , but for the TOP cards i think the X1900XTX its better deal , cause have all the new tecnoligies

consensus is 7600GT only overclocks a bit, so up to 6500.
however, for 7900GT, some only hitting 540 but some 580 (should be about 9000 or even a bit more).. perhaps voltmod needed to hit 650 = 7900GTX speed.

A week ago I was about to order a 7800GT for $300. Now 7900GT for same price, but performance like 7800GTX ($450) or higher. Lower noise, less power/heat too. What a sweet deal.

well it is fair in a way as he wanted to highlight what the architecture does for the 7900 and thats not a whole lot at same clockspeeds. but yes of course if you get one, vmod and overclock to hell you will have a fast card. ;)

Kind of makes me sad. At 750,1.9 on factory air the cards would have ruled.

well some manufacturers have 690 engine clocks + 50 GDC = 740 - not that far off.
They probably had the engine clocks quoted by accident instead of just saying clocks :D
