I know this isn't too extreme, but for someone like me it is. I got my prescott celly D's IHS off, WITHOUT RIPPING OFF THE CORE!!! so I will post OC'ing rsults in this thread when I get mobo + DICE. If you wan't some clear pics, I will post, cause most people took really fuzzy pics in that thread on removing the IHS on prescotts. :toast:

First of all, anyone thinking about this, It requires a TON of patience. I also found out that the thermal solder/compound is actually quite maliable at room temperature. Without further ado, pics.

I didn't actually go very deep, just enought to get the epoxy off

Anyway, this is the cheapest of CPU's so it isn't like losing an FX or an EE

The Dothan guys need to explain to me HOW adding another useless layer for the energy to traverse is going to help cool the CPU core.........

My job wasn't very good!
I didn't heated the cpu enough and the core cracked into 9 pieces (there are very small lines on the core....)...
Maybe I'll try to remove another cpu's ihs :D

ehe, me teacher would slayy me alive :) Took C+E in my sopho yr.
IMHO popping IHS off a 775 chip isn't worth it, coz then, ¿ how to mount an heatsink/evap/etc ? Also you've lost the points were the socket retention pressures... I'd never pop off the ihs on a 775 chip...
