I just finished my new PC build, and I think it's a Mac that some of you may actually like. ;)

Dual AMD Opteron 275's (2.2Ghz - Dual Core - 4 Cores Total)
2048MB Corsiar XMS PC3200 REG ECC CAS2-3-2-6 1T (NUMA Enabled - 12.8GB/sec)

Sound Blaster x-Fi Fatal1ty
150GB Western Digital Raptor 10000rpm 16MB Cache SATA
250GB Western Digital 7200rpm 16MB Cache

It took me about two weeks to get it all put together. It's nice to have a system with the style of a Mac, and the Power of a PC.

wow really nice, what king of heatsinks are those? they look like my hyper 6. and whatre the temps in that case? its so stylish, you should also put osx on that just for kicks ;)

They are Thermal Take Tower 112's. Typically I would never consider TT, but they were 100% copper and mounted in such a way to blow air out the back of the case. My temps read System 34C, CPU1 42C, CPU2 38C. all the fans in the system are running at very low rpm, so if it wasn't for the X1900 cooler it would be almost completely silent. There are no fans mounted to the front/back of the case, so the fans inside the case just keep the air flowing from front to back. No matter where you put your hand at the back of the case, it just feels like a steady stream of warm air. The air intake temperate is 72F, and the exaust is 85F.

oh man, that psu on the bottum open like that, just imagine if a cat wandered in there o_o and ive touched the heatsink on a powered psu before and shocked myself and its pretty exciting stuff

Wow that's... way over priced. Can't say I'm surprised though, that damn little apple with a bite out of it on the side adds a few hundred on to anything.

A few questions...

How did you remove the Mac standoffs and having done so, how did you install the new ones?

How did you handle the I/O panel...is that just a trim piece on the outside of the backplane?

I have one of those cases and have been contemplating a conversion...yours is one of the nicest I've seen.

The first step was taking a dremel to the standoffs that were used to support the Mac motherboard. They are build right into the motherboard tray. Once those where off I build a new motherboard try with a sheet of aluminum.

Since those pictures were posted I recently upgraded to a set of Opteron 280's. With a slight I have quad 2.6Ghz Opty's. They are some nice performers.

Very nice, looks sexy, and you did a good job with the wire management too.

The price of that mac case isnt that expensive, the new silverstones cost that much or more and i would rather have this.

I think i found the case im goin to use for a future project. :D
