Thats, right, burned her right off, after about 30 seconds of that I was free of that crappy chipset cooler!! I ended up having to take the mosfet cooler off as it was helping cool off the board, and i went at it with a wrench. Sapphire didnt kid around when they glued this thing on.

temps went from 70c stock to 55c zalmann to 35c sp-97.

I love the "ghettoness" of your mods, and that Sapphire- board seems to take a lot of beating. Shame it's fairly expensive though.

anyways, should be ready for benching tommorow, im still not back at home, at 3.5v my corsair (think its ch-5) 512mb stick was running at 260 2-2-2-5 5mal-6RP

im not sure what the problem is as i didnt have enough time to play with timings but anything higher wasnt stable regardless of voltage, thousands of errors even at 263....i think its heat related, as the 1st 3 passes are error free but after that you get more and more each pass. but you cant get the spreaders off of this corsair, so maybe ill just move on to my 2x512mb kingston BH-5 :D

Hmm with 2 different fans I got better temps sucking...

BT fan set to suck doesn't make any sense to me.

depends on how your exhaust setup is and where your CPU is placed in your case. my xp-90 is sucking air directly into a 120mm exhaust and my 140mm psu fans. if i have it blow down all it does is recirculate half of it.

ok got the CH-5 running 265, needed more volts on the northbridge (1.4 instead of 1.22)

ive almost got 270 stable, for anyone interested, with the stock chipset cooler, with a fan blowing on it at stock volts it sometimes climbed over 40c, with my thermalright cooler it never climbs over 22c on stock volts, and never over 27 with 1.4. very successful... i should see what i can get the HTT too now, before the mod i got 346, i have a feeling i could shatter that pretty easily now.

well crap, had a shot at 265x10 1m superpi 32seconds in single channel.

setting up the SS, rig just powered down, hope i didnt lose anything but this doesnt look good.

clear cmos isnt helping and changing the ram wont get it posting either... i hpe i didnt lose my cpu, i was only running 1.55 through it though, it was going at 23c idle...

3.65 on ram though... hmm got to figure this out, id hate to have to buy a new cpu right now.

oh man i hope you didnt kill this project, this is a fun read lol

hmmm ive inspected everything i cant find any burns or anything, ive reseated and tried with multiple different ram modules, pulled off my big tonado and the cpu looks fine phisically...

i wish i had my old mobo here to test with, but stupid me left in in the dorms!!! :(

i even pulled the mosfet cooler... damnit... i wish i had a clue where to start... i guess ill just reseat everything and cross my fingers...

ok well reseated everything and the vid leds are all lit up, this means vid off which means dead CPU


sucks this 3800+ was a great clocker... did 2750 easy with 1.55...

It's odd i had 1.55 running through it and i was told that that should be enough volts to fight off high vdimm... i was only running 3.65 vdimm (only lol) when it shut down, so it wasn't something all that uncommon... i havent heard of this happening since the shuttle days... oh well of coure it happens to me. I am wondering if the motherboard had something to do with it.


Anyways, which CPU do i replace it with??? Dual core is great and all but i think single core is more my style right now. especially with my lower budget.

anyone recommend a chip for me at $200-$250?

The opty 146's are doing well, but honestly, look in the FS thread and you will pick up some AWESOME chips if you want long enough. AFI, for example, just sold a CABNE 146 0530 for 150 or something like that lol.

Glad this board is getting more exposure. Its highly underrated by most people. By far the stablest I have ever used. I just hope that I recieve my Newer platform soon as I'm very curious how that compares to this one.

as far as high volts revv i tend to use 1.60 when running above 3.5vdimm.I try to keep vcore a little less than half vdimm. Ran mine all the way up to 3.85v at 273 fsb, still going strong.....

Im wondering if the chip dieing is because of the board or my vcore being too low... anyone know more about this?

I ran my opty 170 bare core at 1.55volts and no problems. But I don't pump insane amounts of volts through my mem either.

U pretty much pumping almost 2.5times the vcore through the memory controller. Opties are a little big more fragile I think.

Lol, im just messing with you, but honestly, 1.55 isnt to much for cpu, i think chew was right and 1.55 was too little voltage. pisses me off cause the cpu was running at 23c at 2.65 ghz, the last time i maxed the cpu out it was much hotter (35c at same volts) and it got to 2.8 1.65v... i think i would have had 2.9 on air TBH.

Btw i found the week of the cpu, CCBWE 0541 SPMW.

I am really sad to have lost such an able cpu.

OK fine, its four in the morning, i have a two hour drive to school ahead of me, and i have class at ten, but once again i get hooked to my PC...

I just said, hey why not try a bit... so i leave everything at stock and shoot for 250x10... BAM 2500mhz, stock vcore on this is 1.4v.. cooling is my TTBT with a panaflo high speed at 5v right now, my girlfriend is asleep right next to me so i cant fire it up right now :toast:


ok so i open ati manager and then bam, 2700 mhz, easy... i needed to change the pll speed, so after i locked up at 2900, i booted at 280x10 stock setting all around... i snagged this with no effort at all:

I'm 200 miles away from my pc right now, but i am loving the opteron, i wish i had never gotten an X2.

well you need 3.3 to match a dual core 3.0 gig. I think you just need to find a golden dual core rev :)

Well yes, i ran daily at 2500mhz on my X2, and this cpu can easily do daily work at 3ghz, so things are much faster, and it was about 1/2 the price i paid for my X2.

My point being, for the poor overclocker, X2 isn't the way to go yet IMHO.

Certainly if you have an x2 that will do 3.0 on air, steer me towards it and i may be going dual core once again hehe. To me it sounds like we will need some new steppings for that though.

It always depend on the situation. I always have emule downloading a lot of stuff, and that had a good impact in gaming performance. Seeing my 165 runs almost the same as my Venice, but with 2 cores the DC is worth for me.

And with the new nV drivers and some games, they benefit big time with DCs.

BTW, good joob with the grouper. I love the colour of that board. Still not a reason to buy LOL.

I think the performance is more then enough to buy.

I am very satisfied with everything this board has to offer.

mursaat - well, I use downloading server for eMule, so my performance aren't hurt at all. Besides, even with Double Core the performance of any game WILL BE hurt, and therefore - off eMule to server go :p:
Second thing is, that I mostly game online and therefore no-emule can run, because even on low settings it does affect ping time even on fast cable connection speeds.

You should know that we have yet to see a game that benefit from double core yet ;) In drivers this is pure BS - drivers are straightforward - you can't rewrite them completely to gain advantages of double core, besides most HW stull are precise in timings. Eg. you first have to push this register and THEN this one. Paraellizing such tasks end up in horrible BSOD ;)
So, even there is possible to write a filter or design a game (I dubt it anyway) that would benefit from double core, it is mostly useless and it probably hardly can become any more that very small fraction of games and stuff.
Therefore the single core Opterons will be much faster, because they run overclocked pretty well ;)

And of course, color is not a reason to buy. Performance and stability is. And design of the mobo that well fit into my fanless enviroment. We have to see, how it hold on anyway :D

Having actually used dual core a bit beyond overclocking, I have to say that I Can't Go Back now lol. It's the creamy smoothness, doesn't matter if the game's optimised or not. When I use the s754 Venice rig, even at 2800 the wait time is forever compared to dual core. Of course, that's partly because of single-channel memory, but even against a 146 clocking 2800 it's lots smoother. :D

Well, OT, but still - what is was forever on single core, compared to dual one?
I can't imagine anything that taking forever on sigle compared to dual one, giving the simple math that it at max add another 50% or so of the power, due to two CPU's has to saturate one bus for one ram/gfx/pci devices :confused:

well basically i noticed boot time is a tad slower with dual core. When in windows trying to do multiple demanding tasks sux though. With dual core I can run multiple tasks with no noticable loss in speed or performance.

Well, that IS logical and possible to understand. Also that cleverly balanced usage of both cores during demanding video encoding could yield pretty nice results. However they aren't be that much different from single core and I dubt I ever see any performance increase in games like BF2 or FarCry/upcomming Crisis :p:

Close to a 7.5% in a Quake4 with nVidia drivers, and 8.88% with in-game DC optimizations, 1280x1024 AA+AF enabled. CoD2 is another story, as the patch is intended for Intel chips. And this is in 'older' games. I want to assume one would buy a chip for now and future purposes, and I think with the time more and more games will benefit of dual core. Sorry for the late response and OT, but I unsubscribed by error :p:

And of course, color is not a reason to buy. Performance and stability is. And design of the mobo that well fit into my fanless enviroment. We have to see, how it hold on anyway :D

I won't pay the premium price for hardly overclockable CPU to get 7% boost. I'm insane, but not that much :D :nono:

And no, chew*, no no, no window play :D When I play, I kill every process - with fire :D In fact, I killing even services mercilessly and so on, so in my case, it hardly can be 7%, as I optimized a lot and therefore the OS-hog is next to none for me.

BTW, I still plan run a W2k SP2 on Opty :p: :D ;)
