it seems for many the :
0550 UPMW is best available(obviously 0530 are great too but not really around much) 170>165???
0550 VPMW look very good or just ok??? 165>170???

The one in my sig opty 170 0550 UPMW is prime stable @ 1.375 in BIOS if this could help.
I really think that 170 0550 UPMW is better than 165 0550 UPMW (it was in my case)

I have a 165 0550 upmw that is running at 2.8ghz @ 1.4v (bios)/1.38 (windows). It also does 2.7ghz at stock volts and 2.75ghz with .04%. This is on air w/ big typhoon and open case.
0550 VPMW (CCB1E) here..
It will do 2763 with 1.4v, and a little under 2800 with 1.425. KITT needs to update the database :nono:

Indeed..iMAX has a better chip, there has got to be more of those super chips out there somewhere in the US, I read on the other thread a 165 vpmw broke 3.0Ghz on air as well. :D :D
I got a 0551 VPMW 2700MHZ @ 1.39V (MBM5 reports) Set to 1.425 in bios
Got this CPU From Monarch.
This is water cooled, I didn't play much just set it to 1.45V and jumped right to 2700, it was prime stable (17 hours) so I lowered the voltage untill it became unstable. (kind of backwards but it works for me :P)
It might clock Higher I'm not sure, but it took alot of volts to boot up at 3ghz..and it was not stable (could be the MB though whichi s a DFI expert) (Booted with 1.6V) I'll probably leave it at 2700 though...I guess it's not a very good stepping :(
Something in my system does not like over 300 MHZ Could be the MB? I dunno...
can any other CCB1E 0550 VPMW Users report on cold bug ? I cant even boot into windows with -1°C seems like CCBWE 0550 UPMW is easier on the cold bug issue seeing bens scores with phase change.
I have a CCB1E 0550VPMW that does 2750MHz w/ 1.4v, and 2.8GHz with 1.525v. I have not tried to go higher yet. I keep it at 2750 because temps are high at 1.525v. Can't say much about the cold bug, I'm on air.
I'm picking up a Opty 170 CCBWE 0551UPMW tomorrow.
Should be ok you think ?

So far can only get to 2500Mhz semi stable 1.536v on XP-90 with high speed panaflow fan :(

ya, I have never really had good luck getting a super good chip either (until this time ;) ) even with other good steppings such as the 0540 FPAW -- it seems the 165 0550's are pretty hit and miss unlike the 170 0550's :(

update for my 0551 VPMW
I dual primed overnight something like 7-8 hours while I slept and I got it up to 2800 MHZ at 1.52V (41-42C)
I just lowered to 1.5V and it's running a little cooler (39-40C) and seems to be stable (priming right now), I tried 1.55V @ 2850 and core 0 Fails, I think my core 1 would easily pass 3ghz...
Bummer... I guess it's not a Dud, just ok.. I don't know if it is safe to run 1.6 volts to a liquid cooled opteron (24-7) and I doubt it is worth it for an extra 50 mhz, so I'll probably leave it @ 2800 @ 1.5V (or less after I play with prime and bios settings some more) and of course when I get it to where I think I would like to keep it I will Prime for over 48 hours :)

my 0550 UPMW is a 165, and I am having problems with the mem controller on it above 310, so still messing with that.

My 0550 VPMW Has a very weak core0, or a strong core1 depending on how you look at it.
burning in core0 hasnt gained me anything, but still trying
2.8gighz - stock vcore
2.9gighz - 1.4 vcore
3.0gighz - 1.532 vcore
havent tested any further. I can boot into windows at 3.2gighz, core1 is fine. Core0 just is killing me though.
I'm not complaining though 600Mhz overclock is great, not as good as others but still enough for me :)Quote:

I realize it's wintertime and everybody is doing their "extreme open window OCs" but when i see something out of place (like chipset loading at 23c, joe), i realize that ambient temps are chilled quite a bit, so you may as well tell everyone what the ambients are.

I just sold a 165@2.6..0534 mpmw...I am waiting to see how the new owner does....he will probably get 2700+ ..LOL
My 0550 VPMW is at 2750 so far, still trying for more, but core 0 pukes out at 2800. Core 1 has primed at 2850 easily :confused:

looks like 50XX substrate are best???
Of course I was able to get my hands on a 170 0550 upmw 434L substrate..I hope it deos better than my 0546 xpmw or at least as well on lower vcore....

If you don´t plan to go subzero i´d say 0550VPMW is the best choice :)
my opti 175 does 2750 with 1.35 in bios...but with a load on both cores i am pushing well into the 50's with a nado and si-97 that i modded a while back when i first got my winnie becasue they sent me the wrong kit...any way i have had this chip over 3gh taking it out side in the cold...i am going to go water cooling soon and that should DRASTICLY help...maybe a 3ghz chip on water with 1.55

I am getting the same 0550 UPMW Opteron 170 434L and was wondering how this CPU compared to others you have tried?
Also, what overclock you have accomplished on air - what vcore, temps etc..

Trying to decide whether to keep 0550 UPMW (unopened) or 0550 VPMW I have on order. If I knew the VPMW was going to be better for sure I wouldn't even bother opening and trying the UPMW 434L.
i'd say, wait for VPMW - even if you will not be able to achive 3ghz, it will run 2.8/2.9ghz with much less volts than upmw .. i had 3 upmw's (all 434L), the best one was doing 2.85ghz with 1.55V .. now i have 3 vpmw's and one is doing 3gz@1.48V, and 2 of them are doing 2.9ghz with 1.4V .. btw, you can still open the box in the way it can't been seen it was opend (be careful with the sticker) ..Quote:

All 0551s are mediocre. The very best do 2.7 with 1.4v, the worst need like 1.6v to do 2.7... maybe there's even worse ones who knows.

The UPMW chips are all CCBWE and the VPMW are all CCB1E.
