1st Intel cpu I've liked since my 2.4c :)
runs hot even with watercooling, but still I think it's a good setup :)

Yep, that's pretty damn good. I wish I could get more outta mine, but unless I go with WaterChill or better I'm stock where I'm at. What helps me a little bit is my ram. What are you load temps? Try doing some PCMark04/05.

Do you need to use that vcore to push the 920@4200 ???? Even using WC???
I only need 1.37vcore to put my 920@4200 with Air Cooling and 2.2vdim to push my 2GB Patriot PC-6400 DDR2 @ PC-7100 (900).
I'm using Air Cooling (XP90c + NB SX2) and only 1.37Vcore

Turn off all tweaks @bios, like hyper path 3, etc, because it limits the manual OC. ;)

more fan should help with temps, but blast furnace of cpu isn't helping!

Go @ Bios and make this changes:
Advanced/JumperFree Config Menu
-> Performance Mode [Standard]

CPU Configuration Menu
-> Microcode Updation [Enabled]
all other options on this menu [Disabled]

-> Hyper Path 3 [Disabled]
-> Link Latency [Normal]
-> PEG Link Mode [Normal]
Try to set your Vcore to 1.4v and then make some tests. If its ok, try to low the vcore to 1.385v and so on.... ;)

I just installed a 920 in a Foxconn 955 board, and It seems to be doing Pretty good. Much better than any of the Prescots I have had.
This is the first Intel chip I have had that feels like it would keep up with a
x2 series Athlons.
Air cooled with a temp probe right on the CPU heatspreader.
45C Max 230=3.2G Just getting started.
Your 920 can do much more!!!

yeah I was hoping after the hype prior to launch that cm would be 5ghz+ on water and pressler wouldn't be far behind. Reality has bit us hard this time. Oh well, still good preformer for what it is :)

MFM- as I found out some chips need more voltage to get to the same speed, it's just luck of the draw.

I'm happy with paying $260 for this chip. It's not gonna break any world records but it's a decent budget system. I am using cheap turbo PQI memory as well. ;)

I run it at 287fsb day to day as it's not as hot that way (bout 60c loaded).
Well I am voltage limited. only have .1825 above default for a total of 1.34 according to the bios and cpu-z. 250fsb for 3.5G.
I need a V-mod.

I'm using the Mushkin PC5300 yeah! So far liking them alot. Not a whole ton of headroom at 3-3-3-x timings, but once at 4-4-4-18 and 2.2v they will do about 1ghz give or take ;), not bad for 2x1gb sticks. :woot:Quote:

Why u said that? Hyper Path 3 and Performance Mode are only automatic tweaks, and as u know, when u're OCing manualy you should turn off all automatic OC settings and tweaks....!Quote:

I spent 2 days trying to get this motherboard to work. I only have 1 problem it will not detect anything on the PCI slots. But everytime I reboot it tell me it found new hardware when I check the device manager it tells me I have a PCI device that needs to have drivers installed. Problem is it won't take the inf files for this MB. I can take the X-fi out and still get the same thing: reboot, detects pci device, asks me to install driver, denies use of drivers available throught DL or CD. Has anyone ever had this problem? Please help...

I'm not really sure whether it's the 920 or the P5WD2-E that get's weird above ~300 Mhz fsb. It's probably the motherboard, hopefully a new bios will resolve it later. It's like I can run 3dmark05complete suite with cpu tests, I can run pcmark04 and 05 with no trouble, but superpi 1M will fail within 5-6 seconds...w00t :confused: Oh yeah, and memtest86 runs error free for hours too, but superpi 1M will fail within seconds. Usually I can run superpi 1M at at least 250-300 Mhz above what I can run pcmarks error free at with my single stage phasechange cooling. I'm puzzled..... to say the least :confused:
At any rate, I've been benching some 3dmarks with my 920 @ 4.9 Ghz today, and coupled with a x1900xtx card is does quite well. Almost 41k in 3dmark2001se and over 12.5k in 3dmark05. Pretty damn good for the cheapest (until 805 arrives at least) Intel P4 dualcore cpu.
I cannot have hyperpath3 enabled either, with my 670 @ 370+ MHz fsb it was fine in my P5WD2-P, but anything other than "auto" on this P5WD2-E spells trouble :rolleyes:
disabled hyperpath and can now at least bench at 305-310mhz fsb
might have eeked out a hair more mhz

for all of u chaps with high vcores, make sure you've got some air flowing above the mosfet main circuit ;)
a 40x40x10mm fan should do fine above the mosfet heatsink.
