First System Finshed

I've been reading the forums for a while and finally decided to post something.

System Rundown:

R22 with a little propane since I didn't change the oil

Cap 58" .026

1/5 hp embraco compressor a little small but does the job

Evap and mounting hardware is all my own design

condenser form chilly

Holds around -30c on a 3.2 prescott

Making the case from mesh was an accident it was left over from another project, luckily it didn't turn out looking like a chicken coop.

I had a lot of fun building this system and there's probably many more to come.

Man... NICE... is knuckle fine after all the wire brushing? I can never get myself to spend TOO much time on it after knowing it will just oxidize again.

Wow that is very creative. Love the polished pipework too makes it look very nice.

There's only 2 things need doing with that one.

1. Get rid of the tape and use some heatshrink down there on the suction line.

2. Get some cable sleeving ;)

Otherwise that's a good result. Got any pics of that evap?

I'm with Gray though, it'd be an improvement using sleeving over them wires ;)

Where the suction line comes in I had a lot of problems making it look good and I still don't like it. even though it looks like generic electrical tape its actually EPR tape aka rubber with no backing and sticks to its self when stretched. works with a temperature down to -40 and has a soft rubbry feel. I would have taken the sleeving down all the way but the problem is the right angle with a cap tube sticking out, foam tape looked too bulky, heat shrink looked too rigid and had a problem following the sharp angle.

And yes this is my first build I guess I did my homework and then some.

The copper is polished with mothers aluminum polish surprisingly the shine stays for a while it was done more for the picture, also clear coat of paint to keep the shine wouldn't be that hard.

I don't have an actual picture of the evap I have some 3d drawings and I'll take a picture of the mounting hardware.

Here is the mounting hardware and evap. The idea behind these parts was to be simple to assemble and to use minimal tools and time to build.

The mounting hardware is made to sandwich around the socket to keep condensation from creeping on the board and gives a sturdy base to attach the evap. Right now its setup for a 478 never got around to drilling holes for the LGA on the lower section.

And the evap probably not the most efficient but it seems to work. The capillary tube is brazed in the center hole and a thick copper disks brazed to each end. One disc has a hole which a fitting for the cap tube to exit and the flex line to attach the other becomes the base. This was not my original design I ran into a problem while making the block and didn't feel like cutting another.

How did you do the lettering on the case??

? with a paintbrush and white color ? :)

Its great getting all this positive feedback it will probably push me to make another.

Anyway the lettering is done by masking the top then found a font I liked printed it out taped it down and cut it out with a razor, peel away and paint. Its awful doing this on perforated metal because every time you hit a hole it goes chunk.

I see in one of your initial pics you have a transformer which I assume is being used to power the fans (stepping down from 120v to 12v? but I don't see a rectifier bridge, or something for filtering (which doesn't matter THAT much for fans, but a capacitor would do) I'm not really great with electronics, but that didn't look right? (maybe they're AC fans?)

The rectifier is tucked under the compressor probably can't see it from the picture. I wish I knew enough about electronics to build a simple controller but this is about as complicated as I get, maybe some day I’ll take some classes.

oh, ok. you might want to put at least a passive heatsink on the diode bridge, I know when I built an unregulated linear power supply for my GPU peltier setup it got hot as heck, although your fans aren't drawing as much current, might want to leave it out in the open for some fresh air.

Where did you get the compressor? Do you have a link?

The compressor is from ebay but that was back when I was still trying to figure out how this stuff went together. I remember it being something stupid like 20$ with shipping I should have bought everything they had, long gone now. :slap:

Thank you for the sketches that on ace of the eva: D is very good work, besides some good results with this eva.
I believe that in a future it plows an eva for the GPU of the graph: I find D very good results.
