You can't really judge them on one non-enthusiast board. You are forgetting the DFI 925XE-T2 board. It really rocked compared to ASUS' P5AD2-E, and a 955X/975X versions of it could quite possibly have beaten the P5WD2 series, had it continued where the T2 model let go :)Quote:

Max FSB of 265MHz!? the to modes of 166-199 and 200-265 is controlled by a jumper.
With a T2600, 13x265 = 3445MHz would be max clock. And no "budget" overclocking since T2300 would be motherboard limited at 2650Mhz (10x265).
Will the times of Turbo.PLL rise again ? :rolleyes:
It would be ideal to buy an old used Vapochill. Even the first versions of Vapochill will be able to cool these things overclocked to the limit. They have a cooling capacity of 110 watts, right?
Hm, what about T2600 ES? Shouldn't that one have higher multis available? :D
If nothing else, the dual core Yonahs on the Aopen board at least could make a formidable 24/7 rig even at stock... although you usually don't buy $500 cpu's for 24/7, of course :D

Seems like the T2400 at 292 euro is your best bet in Europe at any retail store.
Anyhow, even if it won't be the best motherboards, for me, it's more important to be able to overclock your cpu until it's still stable and you can use the overclock 24/7...
Might be able to clockgen higher maybe? hopefully.

we just had a rep with a asus napa platform laptop and yonah 2ghz.
i ran some super pi tests to compare it againts 840d dual core pc's i tested in the past.
the system has ddr2 533 ram running at 5-5-5-15 nothing optimised
this little laptop out performs 840d with 2gb of ddr2 800 on all 4 tests
but running both cores the bus and ram speed of the yonah limits it's performance (i think) and the 840d is not that far behind on the 2x 8m pi run.

Well, yeah, but that's only one core. I wonder how well it performs in 3d mark then. I hope the FSB isn't going to hold it back that much with high spees.
the laptop has intel on board graphics so no point running 3d mark on it.
I hope to have this for a couple of days next week and was planning on running benchmarks on every multi to see how the cpu scaled and perhaps show a nice performance curve.
Hmm, is the Vcore- reading in CPU-Z correct? Isn't 1,4 a little high for default on 65nm process?

In the Voltage Identification table the voltage goes up to 1.708v with Dothan and only to 1.5v with Yonah. I'n not sure what this exactly means, but I just hope this won't cap the vcore at 1.5v without mods. I'm not sure it's a real problem with normal cooling because it's 65nm and even Dothans don't do much more at above 1.6v vcore with normal cooling.

still trying and the asus rep knows some one at aopen too said he might be able to help.
i think the yonah could not be the best system for me i need to compare it againts the 920d i have @ 4200 for xvid encoding using autogk. with the high fsb of 300 and ddr2 @ 800 4-3-3-4 it will encode an hour of mpeg2 in 35mins.
When i get the laptop back next week i will do some more testing and see how fast it encodes the same file.

remeber this is a stock 2ghz yonah in a laptop i am not sure if it was dual channle 533 or 667 but it was running at 5-5-5-15 againts a 920d @ 4200 with 300fsb and dual channle ram @ 400 4-3-3-4 so the yonah is miles behind on the ram bandwidth.
once i get it back i will know better and will do a fresh install and make sure it has dual channle ram.
i could set the ram on the 920D to 533 and 667 5-5-5-15 to see if thats makes a differance. (in fact i will do)

the differance between 1x 8m and 2x 8m has jumped from 12s to 34s but still not over 60s like the yonah.
lets hope the aopen will run higher than 266fsb with clockgen to get the memory bandwidth where it needs to be for the yonah realy show what it can do.
The reason for the 1min jump in times from 1x - 2xSpi is because of its shared cache and smartcache tech as somebody stated earlier. yonah cpu has all the information in one cache and sorts to the needed cpus while the 920 series and current AMD dualcores have placed 2 seperate caches so each cpu has its own dedicated cache, so it finds data for the required core faster.

This is not correct. The speed of search in L2 does not depend on a quantity of the running versions of Pi. It is always equal to 14 cycles. Real reason in the fact that one Pi obtains entire 2M cache, whereas two of pi enjoyed only half of cache. In 940 and AMD they always obtain only half of cache. The problem is that 1M Pi cannot completely be accomodated into 1M cache because of different Windows background processes which requires certain quantity of memory (i.e., they are in L2).Quote:
