Danger Den Water Cooling Solution

Check out the new Danger Den set of waterblocks custom tailered to ATI's motherboard reference design (Sapphire Halibut shown) as well as the new X1800 series waterblock.

The quality of the these pieces are astounding and they look fantastic. But this isn't all about looks, it mostly about function and Danger Den has done a fantastic job. One of the downsides of liquid cooling is that the removal of airflow over the power delivery circuits causes them to overheat. With this set of waterblocks this isn't a problem for neither the motherboard nor the graphics card since the blocks cover the power delivery circuits. The graphics card block contacts the memory chips as well and ensures they will remain cool.

According to Danger Den, availability is just around the corner for everything.

Check out the attached pictures.

Edit: Crossfire setup coming up next week.

More pictures.

that would be hot for a clear case

Actually it would be quite cool :p: Sorry couldn't resist.

a little more mass for the CPU block would probably be beneficial

Thats nice...

Looks like that poor card is going to tear right out of there...

Grayskull,
Do you know if they will produce a normal, small non-fullcover WB specifically for the new ATi GPUs? I don't like fullcover design waterblocks for GPUs. Nice setup, nonetheless.

You would think that by looking at it, but I've found that it works really good when tested with a fully overclocked CPU. No complaints here.

Not sure. You might want to shoot them an email and find out.

I prefer the full coverage one. It removes the need for any fans in the system and keeps the memory really cool.

The new ATI cards use the same mounting as the Nvidia 6x/7x do, the Maze 4 GPU line of blocks work fine. As should any block with that mounting setup.

now this is what ive been looking for.

ive been waiting for someone to make a x1800series water block that cools the memory, i hate the amount of heat these puppies produce when overclocked, or even at idle.

ive been using a TT "bigwater" to keep it cooled down with a 120 running low to move air across the ram ( i just couldnt bare to put on heat sinks in anticipation of a good water block ).

thanx for the info GS.... and anything good to say for the sapphire crossfire ? board, or even the PURE ?
im waiting on a 4000+ that will be here next week, and im thinking of getting another board .

i just dont see anone posting any user info on them

Does it come in blue? ;)

Thanks, I knew that, if you were directing this response to me. I guess I should've been more clear with my question. What I meant was if Danger Den would produce any new non-fullcover waterblocks for the new ATi GPUs.

sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet :D

would match this perfectly http://fileshosts.com/videocards/HIS/X1800XT/html/ :D

maze4 gpu + ramsinks > this :banana::banana::banana::banana:

Weight of the gpu w/c cooler is making the card lean right !! Not good :(

Perkam

Perkam,
Imagine then when the motherboard is seated in a case, will be even worse.

-k0nsl

No it won't, the card is supported by the flange when setup in a case. If you notice the flange is missing from the card in these pics so it can sit on a flat surface.

These look really nice to me, perfect for a gaming rig.

The card depicted is missung the mounting bracket but when mounted in a standard case the bracket retains the card and it doesn't lean. The card leans even with the stock cooler because it's not balanced. Postive locking slots help a little but not much. It's all the bracket that holds it.

Is the GPU wb low profile enough for cf? Probably a stupid question but dont want to assume this.

time to get a nb waterblock to match.

The NB heat sink is glued down, didn't want to remove it on this particular board. :) However the waterblock that's covering the CPU power mosfets is the same as the NB one. They are interchangeable.

Here's what the Crossfire set will look like (attached is a 3D rendering of the assembly)

Grayskull, how about space using crossfire?
thanks

let me say this is one of the coolest things ive seen in a while

They just hit the dd store, ATI-A18. However they are showing out of stock. Price is 124.95

Greyskull,
Any chance you could possible put all this in a case and post some more pics?

:)

-k0nsl

Yes in due time, but it will take a while.

looks great i am getting one, just waiting for dd to put them in stock....

Cool, thanks Grayskull. I must admit, while I don't like fullcover waterblocks so much, this is very tempting...............

Will there be an X1600XT version?

The chance of this fitting as shown on the Asus CF board is near zero. (The card to card spacing is very close. So close that the I/O plates on two XT cards touch and the stock fan on one card touches the back of the other.) Also maybe you can convince Rokk to revise the mounting hardware. The threaded rod/spring/bolt attachment on all DD GPU blocks make multi-card systems a nightmare to install. (Works fine with single card systems.) The threaded rod hits the card next two it on most systems. EVERY SLI/CF system I build I have to junk their mounting hardware and create my own....

that is cool like the nv68/78 does DD have a trade up program to trade an nv68 and cash for the ati blocks?

Dragon

grayskull, can you measure the height of one such x1800 block? the dangerden
site doesn't offer anything on dimensions and i'm really struggling with a custom
desktop case where i'll end up using a 90° pci-e riser that leaves about 17 mm
of space between the mainboard slots and the "hanging" graphics card. i'd hate
to have someone build me a custom cover. oh. if you're at it ;) can you check
the width of the copper and the plexi top separately (in mm if possible, ahem)

thanks alot!

Wow nice one, any idea when these will be avilible? :)

If the NB heatsink is glued on, how do we take it off? I plan to replace it since it gets hot. 48c is pretty hot with airflow over it.

If you are guaging the chipset temp by what system manager reports, it's not very accurate we have found. Just put a finger on the heatsink and you will quickly be able to tell if it's really at 48C. We are looking into the root cause of the inaccuracy. The other temps (CPU and ambient) are ok.

As to your question, depending upon the glue that was used, you can use a heatgun to heat up the heatsink until the glue gets soft and then gently pry it off. You need to have the touch though, as too much heat and prying will pull the chipset right off the board. We do it all the time in our labs but we have several years experience. ;)

Not that Grayskull needs anyone to agree with him as he was involved in building /designing the chipset. ;) I have found that the chipset runs very cool. My reference board did not even have a active fan on the NB. The Asus is all passive as well. Both boards the northbridge is barely warm to the touch under normal use. (Now I have not tested the temp at 300+ MHz....only about 250.)

I personally don't find a need to replace the factory heatsink. It does the job.

When I was gauging the chipset and mosfet temps, I realize the NB gets hot, but not to the point where I can't keep my finger on it for more than a sec. So I guess it is sufficient. And no I will not put a heatgun to anything. Not a 170 dollar mobo at least. As for the mosfets, the heatsink on there is actually only warm to the touch. I replaced the tape with Ceramique. I raised the NB chipset voltage up to 1.3volts and thats when I noticed it will shoot up to 50c. Hope new software updates can provide real temps and not the Abit artificial temp reduction.

I have used one of these blocks and it worked very well. My temps dropped to 33C with just a single 120mm RAD. I am waiting for the HeatBridge to arrive next. Should be here soon atleast.

looks really good , remember the first pics . ive always liked the products DD has produced . looking foward to them

well i have had mine installed for over a 2weeks now, and i must say im very impressed with the performance over just stock cooler/then to a TT BigwaterSE system, running only on the gpu,OCZ ram sinks, now this with a DDC12V pump,BIXIIXflow Rad...3/8 fittings...

what ive seen, and to those that insist it isnt necessary to water cool your ram, i would have to disagree.
i was stuck @ 607/652 with hitting 35.6 amps, voltages @ 1.225....2.125...2.1 ( to get stable)with the temps ( from bottom of ATItool ) 51c ....53-55c....69-70c.....to

1.20.....2.015....1.970 @ 30.4 amps, temps now @...39c...37c....54c....

( all temps taken at max load with ATITOOL beta 11, running prime95 blend)..

my idle temps are @ 35c...34...44c....with an ambient temp of about 74-75 F..

i have been able to get to 630/700 for a suicide max, with a 625/685 max stable 3dm5, and 3dm6 runs..

is it worth the 123.00 ???

in my opinion, if your a tweaker, and also love to tinker and push things to the max, then id have to say yes....very much so....

it is a well designed and well built WB.
