Those who say that raising vcore on 7800GT not is possible without hardmod are wrong. Havn´t tried on GTX, but i think it will work on them also.
Open your bios with nbitor then change device to 6800series.
Save bios then open it upp again. Now you can use the extended voltage table. After changing to 1,5, change device back to 7800gt. Save.
Flash your card and mesure if you don´t belive me.
What did you set the 2D voltage at? I just opened up the bios editor, went through the sequence, then notice 2D is blank after setting back to 7800GTX..? Did you have to manually set that?

What brand? What do you mean by it doesn´t work? Can´t you change to 1,5v in bios or can you change to 1,5 but it still measure 1,4 after flash?
You can change all GTX bioses to 1,5v if you do the steps in the right order

Hi, well it is possible that there is 1.5V setting.
The 7800 cards have an unlabled voltage, which is only selectable in VID Mode as 3 - ?.? The ?.? mean i have no idea what voltage this gives.
All the 7800GTX users which tested this didnt have a mulitmeter to measure the real voltage, but said that their card doesnt oc better, so it was likley to be a lower voltage setting.
The way described changing the card device to 6800 and extending table, does add an entry 3, labled as 1.5V, because it is that way for 6800 cards.
This doesnt mean it really gives 1.5V, you can only see what voltage you get by measuring with multimeter on the card.
The bios 6800 switching way is not optimal, as it makes the other voltage labels incorrect. The 1.3V setting you have after that is in reality 1.4V, and the 1.1V is 1.2V.
A better way for testing would be to use VID mode and set VID 3 for 1.4V, instead of VID 2.

That way you will still have 1.4V displayed, but get the unknown voltage.
If you are really sure this setting will give you 1.5V, its a nicer way to use the voltage table editor to change the label of 1.4V to 1.5V, and the VID from 2 to 3

After that you can select the 1.5V with the exact mode and dont get confused which voltage you really set.

Note that displaying the voltage with rivatuner or nibitor does not work for the unknown setting, some has to measure it with hand to really say what voltage it gives.

The association of label and vids are now wrong for 7800GT, you should set it to
1.2V - 0
1.3V - 1
1.4V - 2
1.5V - 3
For the 7800GTX it is
1.2V - 0
1.3V - 2
1.4V - 1
?.?V - 3
You see the scheme between 7800GTX and 7800GT is already different, so VID 3 = 1.5V measured on 7800GT doesnt automatically mean its the same for 7800GTX.

Nothing is conflicting here, Dr.Leary just tested VID 3 and it gave him 1.5V. :)
So setting this by either way should give you 1.5V. Its just more nicer to set the other voltages correctly too.

Because it is right in the term that it gives you vid3=1.5V in 3D.

i've just been wondering, and this may sound like a really stupid question...
if this bios mod makes four entries instead of three, what is it that tells the card to actually use the fourth setting (1.5v-vid3)?

:woot: i finally got round to flashing my 7800 bios
i was playing around with ati tool, but no matter what speed the card was set to, ati tool constantly produced artifacts :rolleyes:
i gave up with that and decided to just do an autodetect in the nvidia control panel
it picked 498MHz for the core and 1.19GHz for the memory
i was a little dubious about it, but left it and ran 3dmark05. to my surprise it ran right through with no crashes and no graphical corruption - finally i managed to score above 8000 :banana: :D
i ran it through again with all the tests selected, and it passed again

previously i would get errors running it with a 475 core, so my max oc was 470/1.18 before the mod
cooled with a zalman vf700cu, peak temperature is 58C so far according to motherboard monitor 5

or would it have to be like
voltage 3: 1.5v = 3 - 1.5v
voltage 2: 1.4v = 2 - 1.4v
voltage 1: 1.2v = 0 - 1.2v
Trying this right now on my BFg 7800 GTX 256mb. Will post back with results.
Well I did everything as posted. Nibitor showed vgpu as 1.5v as it should. Flashed, booted up, went to the oc panel and tried 527. No go as i won't even pass the self test. So I opened up Atitool, and hard set it to 527 and hit detect artifacts which insta crashed windows.
So either my card doesn't react well to the up in the voltage or it didn't work.
It worked like a charm on my XFX 7800GT! Using Coolbits Detect Optimal Frequencies:
Before: 488 / 1.12
After: 512 / 1.17

It does, but this 0.1 increase won't kill it that much faster than stock.

So I tried it with gtx 256 mb, core VID in riva tuner show me 3,0 but it doesnt help me in oc, maybe it was worse oc. Can somebody post me bios with 1,5V for 7800gtx 256mb? maybe I did something wrong. I know you write that it dosnt work for 7800 gtx but I think that it have to work if it work gt .-D

with 1.55v bios mod i can only get 510/1310. 1.5v got me 500/1310. Should i try 1.6 ?? this is on water and so far max temp has been 36C

NiBitor did not recognize my BIOS. and i already get light artifacts (VSync type tearing) in BF2, still doubting wether to install my V700Cu since this card already idles at 39c and after 4 hours of BF2 only is 43c... My previous card (XFX 6800) was much hotter.Quote:

Overclock test before 470/1.09Ghz and after 499/1.19Ghz. I'm still using the stock cooler that comes on the XFX card but I have replaced the thermal mess of theres with AS5 which dropped idel temps by 7C.
Now I'm off to see how high I can really get.

Well after playing F.E.A.R for just 10 mins I started to get artifacts @ 500/1.19. Checked my core temp ant it was at 69C! Looks like I'll have to see about getting an aftermark cooler for my card.

So I can just change the 1.4V entry to VID 3 and it will give me 1.5V?
I really don't care about how it's labeled. I don't want to muss around with the tables and get more entries.
Update: Yeah, that's all you need to do. I went from 460MHz with no delta to 486MHz with a 50HMz delta. (So 536MHz) My memory also went from about 1.1GHz to 1.2GHz.
one thing before i go with this mod. Will there be any "ill" effect in making this mod, such as make the card dead ? Thanks.
If you do it wrong, yes. But the worst thing that will happen is you need to drop in a PCI videocard and flash the old bios back. (Make sure you save it somewhere)

From 530Mhz with some artifacts to 550Mhz no artifacts :) 560mhz bencheable
