6800GS 3d05 Results! Looking Good! **3d03 & AQ3 Added!**

Got my 6800GS Yesterday. XFX version. Factory Overclocked to 485/1100. Lets see what its got.

Test System:
DFI Ultra-D (Modded to SLI) 0704-OCZ Bios
2x512 OCZ Gold BH-5
Opteron 144 @ 2.8Ghz (311x9)
XFX 6800GS
XClio 450Watt PS

Stock Clocks Out of the Box. 81.85 Offical Driver. WAY Better than any of the Stock EVGA's didinthe reviews. But it is Stock Overclocked. So I expected this.

After that I loaded COolbits and let the Driver find My "Optimal Settings" 521/1.17 Interesting. WAY higher than I thought the Core would go, but Much lower on the memory. I got a few artifacts here.

So I started playing with the settings a bit to see where I could go..... Memory scaled a LOT more and I had to back the core down to 509 to get the artifacts all cleared up. 509/1.30Ghz!

Then I Pulled the card. Put AS5 on the Core, left the factory air deflector off and positioned a 92mm Sanyo under the heatsink and say how far I could push it. Located the Pre-release 81.89 NVidia Drivers and loaded those up as well. Got a few artifacts here, but an awesome run. Just one evening of testing and I pulled a higher score than any of the 255 6800GT's in our list here on the forum! THis card ROCKS!

THe Stock XFX Bios runs 1.37v to the Core in 3d Performance mode. I might bump it up to 1.4 to see if I can clear the artifacting up a bit. The 6800GS is definatly the real deal. Gonna order a second next week for som SLI Action.

GOtta do some measuring on the cooling. DOnt know if 2 will fit with a SIlencer or Zalman on em inthe DFI Ultra-D.

Pretty sure I'll try taking it up to 1.4-1.42 onthe GPU COre. Memory seeems awesome already.

Of course there's no extra pipes, it's based off the 110nm NV42 core.

The NV42 core only has 12 pipes in the first place, incase any of you didn't know that. It's based off the NV41, which was a PCI-E specific 6800nu chip. There was only 12 pipes and 5 vertex shaders hardware wise on the NV41, which is why there was no way of unlocking the PCI-E 6800nu's.

Excellent guide. I'll be sure to get the ole' No. 2 out when I get home.

Pretty stange 3dmark05 scores there though. I already crushed those scores with significantly lower clocks.

idk if it can be done on pci-e cards now that i think of it...but someone ghetto modded a 6800gt agp, so that 2 molex lines could go into the single molex connector on the card...giving it the same volts, but more amps...resulting in higher stability...i.e.- higher oc.

Didnt get a chance to pencil mod the volts today, hopefully tomorrow. But I went ahead and ordered a Second card tonight. GOnna run some SLI Action for a while.... I'm hoping for some 11k+ 3d05 runs.

hey impaqt: there are grumblings that the new GS may have the performance delta that the 7800 series has - can you verify this by using rivatuner and enabling monitoring and see what it shows at idle vs in game....someone on hardforum says that his jumped from 450 stock to 486 in game.....

so if yours is 486 i wonder what it will jump to!!

Been busy... My second GS arrives today From the FedEx guy so I'll try to check this Delta stuff tonight...

I'd say probobly not though, if you notice the 3d05 submissions for 7800 series cards the reported speeds are almost always different than what the card is actually set for. WIth the 680GS, Orb links report exactly what I have set manually.

Ive got the exact same card, but anything past the stock OC gives artifacts. Temps are fine though, so Im lost. Could there be a setting in bios somewhere Im mising?

Before I swapped the stock thermal paste out for AS5 and increased circulation around the card I couldnt go much higher ont he core than 485....

The Memory should go MUCH higher though.... Try 485/1250 and move up grom there.

OK, SInce some people dont like Benchmarks, I got FEAR Installed and ran their demo.Test at a few Different Resolutions. I have NO idea what other cards are getting is please let me know how these scores are. I left the cards at XFX Stock Speed 485/1100.

Got mine today. Spent along time messing about due to defunct power splitter but now doing some trial runs. Very nice cards, at idle at present I have 27 and 24C for the cores. Goes up to mid 55C during nature on both showing both stock heatsinks are pretty well matched.

I'm guessing eVGA on those temps? (Or you live in a refrigerator) My XFX runs about 38Idle and loads up to about 60-63 at its stock speeds. (With AS5 ont he cores) Ambient 31-32)

I live in a fridge, see shed in picture. Ambient is now 5C.

My large 170mm Papst 6212nm fan was actually blowing against the fans on the cards, now I have moved it to blow just on the cpu .. max temp on the XFX during 3dmark2001 at 520/1250 is only 37C :D They just need more volts stock coolers are great, however I want to keep them for gaming later so no mods :nono: :nono:

In 3dmark 2001 the dual Sli really sucks up the cpu cycles, need to have one of those 3.2Ghz Opterons to stand a chance, only got 32k. Now looking at 3dmark03 and 05 .....

Very nice cards though as you will agree. Will post pics later.

nvidia goes to may 256 at below 0C whilst rivatuner posts 0C.

The cpu is an FX-55 using the multiprocessor tweak so 27C is fully loaded even at idle.

Here's after a 3dmark2001 dragothic and nature run.

Topped out at 33C .. not bad for stock coolers. Temperature in the shed at this time was 0.1C.

apparently there WILL be a 6800GS AGP....but if i am not mistaken, 6800GS is a 12 pipe...would it be able to unlock to 16 on AGP?

These are very nice cards, got an eVGA for $199 shipped and stock cooling in a warm room yields 532/1310 and about 14,400 in 3DMark03 with my Winny at only 2.5GHz. Few weeks and I should be getting my second card. nVidia already announced they will discontinue production of these cores by the end of the year.

Should be about -5c in my garage in the morning, maybe a little turkey day benching to get my appetite rolling. I remember when we had the shoot out with the 5700 Ultras, Andy. Nothing wrong with a little ghetto cooling. LOL.

Picked up one of these cards for a PC I am building for my nephews (Christmas gift). With the card at default clocks, it does a nice 5832. OC'd and tweaked, 6387. Not bad for a $200 video card.

That was good fun SPQQKY, good luck with your second card, hope it matches the first for clocks. A couple of things I had with ambient of 0C or so was that 3dmark05 would not run SLi until the cards warmed up ( weird ! ) and also nature in 2001 would sometimes peak at 650 and sometimes at 380 but both would give me similar score for the nature test, so that is strange as well. I need to do more testing with them but have been sitting in front of the tv recently :eek:

As long as your not CPU Limited I see no reason why most 6800GS's cant hit 6k.

I'm pushing for 12k in SLI right now... 11,7k tonight.. Still on Factory heatsinks... no Mods

Damn nice card! Still doesn't beat the c3d x800GTO(16p) in single but when u can run 2 of these 6800GS in SLI, for almost no money at all, this card rocks.

I going to order 2 next week and try SLI (Never tried SLI before).
May be a positive experience.

EDIT: OMG i have to take that back. They were not that cheap here in sweden. :(

SLI 6800gs?

I just bought 2 - 6800 gs xfx cards, saw alot of 03 and 05 scores with a single card, but would would it do in sli - 01' and 03' scores on a venice 3200@2800mhz? Any guestimates ?

My 6800GS is definitely faster than my Sapphire X800GTO² in all benchmarks. I know that some C3D X800GTO cards get higher bench scores but overall the GS comes out on top in single.
