nice batch/stepping and date of cpu ?
Wow that is nice. I will probably pick up an Opteron 180 shortly, im hoping for 250x12 24/7 stable with good air or water.
These dual core opty's look pretty good. I guess by out of the box u mean stock cooler and thermal paste?? Or is it the SI-20 in your sig? With a BT and some AS5 or shin etsu (which ever people think are better) 3ghz might be possible.
definitly very good for a dualcore. and an opty, not on its limits, on air?
O_O amazing :toast:
I'm interested what it will do with more volts and some more tweaking - go for the 3 GHZ Pi :D
Lower the divider and lets see 3 Ghz!
divider is at the lowest 1:2
3Ghz will boot and past 1M, but fails prime on core1 after a few seconds. i'm not putting anymore volts to it right now. YES, i'm using the SI-120 w/ AS5
I'm awaiting my crucial to get back from RMA and my DFI SLI-DR mobo, then i'll try tweaking some more...right now, i'm just burning in the CPU at the current settings...
what board is it on now? Come on give it 1.6 :)
is IHS still on?
yes, ihs is on (si-120..hmm)
uh, it's on dfi ultra-d.
and more volts does nothing for 2.95 so...calm down, let me burn it in for a while first

i'll have that in a week or so when i replace the mobo
those CCBWE seem to clock very well

(check stepping in sig)
Where did you get it?
no screenies ??
Monarch. I got screenies coming in a week or so, waiting on my Ballistix to get back from RMA :)
I wish my CCBWE would clock like that :(
Get an opteron and it will :)
They are only $305 at mwave. :)
i took two from mwave yesterday, one is good, one is bad.Quote:

No IHS, Lapped CPU + TTBT for now, 20pin PSU in the DFI, untried Ballistix 2G 1:1....

Water tomorrow nite :D
I will be getting my 170 tomorrow but I doubt that will overclock as anybodies else, I don't have luck with this things. My only hope is that it will do enough to get mushin to 255 under divider
i reeeeeeeeeealy hope that i get a ccbwe from my 170... 2.9 or even 2.8 on air would be crazy
on a side note, youre using the si-120. how does that compare to other heatsinks in that price range? particularly the XP-90, XP-90C, XP-120, and Thermalright Big Typhoon? I need to decide on which one to buy
thanks
i esspect to get my Opteron 165 next week. I hope it will do like 2.9 or so :P. To bad its only 9x mult. but my DFI can handle 316 now for 24/7 use so that would not be a big problem. i think he can do 322 as well :)
I realy hope for a nice high oc :P
Rock On!!! Look what the fed ex man just dragged in.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...id=39670&stc=1
I got # 76 and YOU Got # 62 :D
Hope it's @ least as good as mine - had to drop to 10x270 last night but ran dual blend all night @ default vcore - GOOD LUCK :toast:
Get that thing crankin for XS D2OL - WE WANT BEEF :cow:
Cant wait to see results with the ballistix. They should really help you scale higher :)
GUYS> I put this thing in and a new x1800 xl. all was going well. I started clocking the x1800 then decided to give the cpu a spin. 1.7v @ 2900. 133/2-2-2-6
windows begins to load. POP!!! smoke comes rushing from the board. I figured the DFI is dead. then I popped the cpu out and wiped the AS5 off. looks fine no marks. I put it back in and reset cmos. fans spin for a split second and board turns off. Just to make sure, i swap to the venice 3000+. POST 1st try and loads into windows without a hiccup. Will someone just slap me please? I think I deserve it.
so beware. the lesson is don't pump lots of volts into a Dual opteron. Learn from my mistake. MY CCBWE is OFFICIALLY DEAD DUE TO HIGH VOLTAGE.
ouch didn't last long :(

worth a try, it was on stock volts :p:Quote:

now you tell me ;)
Im thinking something else went wrong. I had my 3800+ at 1.75 volts for over 2 weeks straight while running 2 instances of F@H with no incident. Since i dont aircool, what H/S were you using? I use a Storm and i also popped off the IHS.
hyper6 with 2 panaflos kicking hard (in and out) and it was working just fine. contact was perfect. As5 was plentiful. I am a pro when it comes to this. my mem voltage was really low then also. I had a 2gb mushkin kit in under 2.8v I think the cpu was just really sensitive to voltage. or.......................the dfi board kicked more volts than I entered in the bios and malfunctioned burning over 5vcore into the cpu making it burn like roman candle!!! I bet it's that damn DFI board acting up again! LOLQuote:

O man thats bad. I had 1.6v max in my X@ do to high heat. It was 51c stressed on that voltage. My venice can handle 1.75 easely. But it has had a quite long burnin on 1.6.
Why do all you guy's have 170 opterons and not het the less expencive 165 ? For the 10x mult ? or because 170 clock higher ?
My impression was that the 170 generally had better cores and peeps were hitting near 3ghz. Most 165 max about 2.8 or so. Yea maybe the 170 does have slightly better silicon. I'm starting to think the IHS has poor contact thats why it blew up like it did or maybe the sealants completely sealed up all the openings and there wasn't any way for gases to escape and it blew. AMD should take a look.
So i should pay an extra 100$ and go for the 170 ? U think its wworht that extra 100$ ?Quote:

i don't need that. My board can run 322 htt. may be more. Could not test that with my venice.Quote:

if all cores are teh same quality is there really a need to have all these different speed grades? So yea I think the 170 is slightly better than the 165. Ofcourse there will be diminishing returns. Personally I think the 175's are a waste of money.
Yeah i know what you are pointingat. I thought the same only my english is to bad so i cant explay it the way i want to. You see venice 3000+ cpu's clock 2.8 and other 3800+ do almost the same. That is what i mean. Is it the same case here. Or did AMD realy start selecting all good cores.Quote:

I whant 2x1mb minimum. Got 512 KB cache now but 1 mb is much better. And its not to expencive. That 165 is realy cheap. Here its the same price as a new X2 3800+ but u get double the cache and probaly better oc. New X2's don't clock that hard anymore.
Very nice for a dual core on air :)

transam: sorry for your early demise on that nice stepping opty
And I got 43 and mine rocks! Remember mine is in a SFF and the cooling is nowhere near what you guys are using I am sure it would push higher with a monster cooler
In my SN25P and am 100% prime stable for 24hours at 2.7ghz 1.4v on the core and my max temp over those 24 hours was 61c, It ran 2.7 at default voltage but Prime failed on Core 0 after about 6 hours, Not bad at all in my opinion considering how quiet the machine is. This chip kills my 4400+ I sold for more than I paid for this chip!

So now I am wondering if it was the board that I cooked. I am wondering if that 170 is still good. Darn, I already sent it back to mwave. If they test the cpu and find it's good then they will just send it back to me. I just wish I tested it in a another board before freaking out.
ANyway, Ricky at DFI gave me a RMA for the board. there is smoke residue by the mosfets on the board.
Did u use the 702 bios ? it was known for blowing up cpu's. It had a issue with the v-core voltage or something.Quote:

where are your case fans? the standard places (1 on top 2 on back 1 on side 2 on front)? or are some over particular places on the mobo
so yeah, all in all, holy :banana::banana::banana:
I have *got* to get me one of these! :)Quote:

I'm still waiting on my Crucial RAM to get back from RMA before I post anymore screenies.
Case fans: 1: bottom front blowing in (vantec tornado 80mm), 2: top rear blowing out (tri-color clear 80mm), 1: in front of hdd's blowing in (panaflo medium output 80mm), 1: over SI-120/CPU (Panaflo ultra high output 120mm), 1: mod mounted to blow over ram and partial CPU (vantec tornado 80mm)
Side panel is off and cold air blowing in from AC.
All this produces about 42-44C @ 1.57v MaxLoad. With Side panel on it gets about 56C MaxLoad. Opty's are HOT!
Yes, it's a CCWBE 0530. I'm using 704-2BTA BIOS. I'm also waiting on a new mobo, b/c this modded Ultra-D is giving me some RAM slot issues. So I ordered a DFI SLI-DR which should be here soon. After replacing the mobo and RAM when they get here I'll post some screenshots when I have time.
Right now I'm running at 295x10 with side panel on and doing everyday things....no issues at all. I can run 305x10 w/o side panel and be fine as well...however for looks I'll keep it on for now and run a little slower until my ballistix gets here.
nice clocks !!! :toast:
I'm getting my Opteron 165 in 2 day's. If it douse not hit the 2.9 i'm replacing it for one of those 170's :P
I hope you'll get a good one... :)
I just received another 170 CCBWE, 0530TPMW, #51 (the last one was #62)
I am going to be very careful with this one. If you are new to this thread, I blew my last 170 from the same week and stepping with 1.7v
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...id=39981&stc=1
My 170 0530 from Newegg yesterday is happily dual priming along at 2800 and 49 degrees under an SI-120. Ultra-D 704-2BTA BIOS voltage set to Auto and 104%. Nice chip. Will boot at 3000 easily but gets way hotter (close to 60) than I'm comfortable with priming at +- 1.44v.
-pickles
man this replacement cpu blows!
265x10 no matter what volts seems to be max.
cpu temps around 30c 35c load
either this or the DAGF nf4 DFI board i am on. I originally got the cpu for work but I wanted to clock it 1st before going in the work rig. I have a m-atx biostar board there. I will clock tomorrow and see if it get any better but for now this is my max :(
you keep saying that, but can't you just put up something with the ram you're using now to hold us over? ;)Quote:
