First of all congrats on the achievement! to me this is most impressive!

I have two question please, since I'm seriously considering an Opti 146 instead of an X2 3800 for my current and upcoming rig.

1. What kind of multi's can be set for the Opteron 146 (or for that matter, 144 & 148 as well) ? Are they capable of going to down to x9 or x8 for that matter? Are they factory-locked multi'es ? or can they even be set higher than the x10 default?

2. Have you tried to play in 3D games with those insane speeds you've reached or have any nice 3D bechmarks that passed and can post results please?

the opterons are locked both ways, multiplyer wise both up and down( i belive) , so you bascily haft to choose. 144=x9 146=10 etc etc

Wow thats a nice chip... but i think that 1.55vcore is a lot... some guys got 3ghz at 1.4v.

thanks, its all luck though with getting good steppings, it did 10x290 stable on stock volts, raised slightly for the 3ghz :D
my specs are in the sig, passed occt & sp2004 :banana3:
just gotta run prime now

I got a same problem as you that sp2004 was failed after 15mins @1.424v
sp2004 failed after 4hrs @1.45v (Sry forgot to take a shoot will do it again after optimized.)

I think maybe because the power of AS5 got released after couple of hours. :p: Also since that my confidence for the cpu is not very strong before :( so I did set it to a high voltage.

I mean i set it to 1.5 and auto in the Bios of my DFI nf4

But actually, cpu-z shows that it 1.424 for superpi 32m and 1.456 for sp2004

dont trust what it says in windows, it always reports lower than it actually is on dfi boards, the bios is a closer reading.

I think you're mistaken.

Correct me if I'm wrong: You are seeing the temps in BIOS at "idle" and then comparing those temps to the "idle" temps in windows, and seeing that the temps in windows are lower, you conclude that windows reports lower temps than BIOS.

Th truth is that both numbers are fromthe same source (on die measurement) but windows inserts idle cycles which cool down the CPU, whereas BIOS doesn't. So in Windows, temps are actually lower. If you put a temp probe on it you will see this is true.

nope im not, i was on about volts not temps lol
its been prooven on the dfi forums that the bios is a closer reading to the actual volts than what it says in windows. (theres a guide on there on how to take a exact reading of it using a mutimeter)

its just like my 146, stable running 3ghz with 1.45V in the bios but windows says its only 1.4V
was just a warning incase anyone bumps it up to a reading of 1.7V in cpu-z as it will actually be around 1.75V and a smokin chip lol

I just got my 144 in. For my initial testing, I kept the same settings of my Venice, and dropped the VCore to default, and this is what I got...

So far, 2.8GHz is prime-stable at the same stock volts (auto's to 1.35v). passed thru 8k and 10k without error. Wonder how high it'll go...as of now, I only have a lame X2 cooler for it, but I'll have to look into an XP-90C or water cooling (preferrably water, but I'm like broke right now...I was able to sell my Venice to get this for minimal cost from a friend).

one of our member (OCM) got a 146 and run it into a shuttle , he's able to run OCCT @3Ghz with the shuttle closed , and high temps.

the vcore is not so important, only the final frequency is important ;)
Don't forget it's a shuttle. :rolleyes:
10° less = about -0.15v , so at the same vcore it should have 3.1Ghz @50°c

Try to have 3Ghz rock @ 64° , you'll probably have to give more volts (if it's possible for you)...

the vcore is important, set it too high and run it too long set that high and the chip wont last.
i wouldnt use over 1.5V for 24/7 use and his occt says hes got 1.6V
as for 3ghz rock @ 64C, why? mine loads at 42c with 1.45V so dont need more

i aint having a go or anything, im just saying at them volts most opterons can run stable near that speed

Hi all.
This question may have already been posed and answered, but once more please help.
I am seeing 2 diffrent versions of Opteron 146
This one is an OEM for $203 OSA146DAA5BN
but This one is box retail and $173. OSA146BNBOX
Both are 939 and same wattage and I think stepping.
Why is the OEM more expensive than the Retail box.
Is this because one is CABYE, and the Other is CABGE, or whatever?
How can you know which one is the right revision or stepping everyone is talking about and one better overclocking than the other?
I am very much interested to buy one of this and your assistance will be much appreciated.

I am new to overclocking and am hoping to get some expert advice here!

I have the following:

-Opteron 146 0540 FPBW
-DFI Lanparty SLI-DR nforce4
-Crucial Ballistix DDR500 RAM
-SI-120
-Panaflo 120mm fan
-Thermaltake Armour case
-Arctic Silver 5

Looking through all of the posts here, I realise I may be doing something wrong. I am currently running:

3Ghz on Air with 1.568V (As stated on CPU-Z) and temperatures:

IDLE : 38degrees
LOAD : 49-53 Degrees

Now in my opinion this is high on load isnt it? Also, I can get into windows and pass SuperPi at much lower voltage (near stock) BUT

There is no way I will pass Prime95. Anywhere between 2mins and 1hour, the test will FAIL.

Have you guys running 3Ghz on low voltage passed prime? Also, can anyone give me any tips as to what changes I should make in my bios, in case that is my problem (as im a newbie with this stuff!). Also, can anyone recommend any other way I can reduce my temps e.g. should I remove the IHS?
