Here's something a little different - A64 x2 AD*V*4400DAA6CD

Got this cpu a few days ago (and NO, you won't find this cpu in retail yet ;)). Here's the vital info:

AMD Athlon 64 X2
ADV4400DAA6CD
ACBWE 0534VPMW

This is the first time I've ever seen the "V" -as opposed to the normal "A" - marking on a A64. I'll have pics of the cpu and screens probably later on this week as I've been quite busy with other things of late........

Got the same question, and a partial reply. In this Post a guy mention six OPNs of unknow Processors (The ones with BX surfix are pretty identificable because we know that surfix from Semprons, but the other ones are not). If you search for those OPNs in Google, almost all of them will take you to Motherboard manufacturers Web Sites with BIOS upgrades and in they description they include those six OPNs, and some of them also includes the ADV4400DAA6CD that we are talking about (That is how I finded it by the way). No idea what the ADV prefix means and that is what we should investigate about. Usually, in both Opterons and Mobile Athlons XP/64 the diferent prefix should mean a diferent power consumption category, so the Athlon 64 X2 4400+ that if I remember correctly falls in the "Up to 110 Watts" power consumption category (Not that it consumes 110 Watts!), the one with the ADV prefix in the OPN maybe is rated for less (...But with the same Voltage? Impossible, because at that Frecuency, it would still consume the same Amperage). Other than that, can't make sense of it.

I know that "one result" from a Google search as well. It's odd that the site is the only one around which lists the forthcoming OPN's in AMD's lineup. I'm wondering where they get their info from :confused:

I'll get a pic and some screenshots up after I take this 3200+ Venice off my autocascade. I'm just testing a few things on it so it shouldn't be long until I get that 4400 in ;)

I finally got this baby booted and funny thing is, I think I have a bad mount :rolleyes: I had to boot up at around -48C since the temps weren't bottoming out like they did earlier today. When I ddi boot, the evap temps remained the same (in fact, they dropped a couple of degrees). HOWEVER, even with this bad mount, this cpu has either little or no heat output at all. Here's the first screenshot of this cpu. There are a couple of things to note while looking at the various ID progs. First is MBM's core temperature reading of -35C with bad mount and all. Second is Everest's core voltage rating of 1.1 -1.4V. I don't recall what my other X2' variable vcores were, but I'm pretty sure none were as low as this one. As I'm typing right now, I'm seeing mbm5's cpu temps @ -37C :eek:

Fab51 OPN Guide changed things a bit... In K8 OPN, the A letter for Voltage and Maximum Case Temperature means just "Variable". It doesn't even identificates a valid range. If you check AMD Compare, you will see that both ADA4800DAA6CD and OSA180DAA6CD got a "Variable" Voltage but in diferent ranges, 1.35V-1.40V for the first one and 1.30V-1.35V for the second one.
That means that even if ADV4400DAA6CD got the same letter that identifies Voltage, it default specifications shouldn't necessarily include the same Voltage range. So it seems that its more that possible that ADV is for another diferent Power Consumption category. If they work with lower default Voltage, is more than probable that they are higher quality Cores (Like the ones of the old Mobile Athlon XP were). I would keep an open eye on that one.

Ummm, you're talking about the "A" which follows the "D" in the OPN of the cpu. That marking is quite common. What's unusual about this cpu is the fact that it is not an ADA4400xxxxxx, but rather an ADV4400xxxxxx ;)

Well, that's what I did with the 4600+ before I sent it to you ;) That 4600 still is the best X2 I've ever seen, but this one's not bad at all.........

I got some benches in tonight and this cpu's been pretty impressive. I really didn't want to sit through 5+ 32M's so I just ran 1M and 8M @ each speed. Now I want you guys to observe the spi times of each core and see what happens as we raise the htt.......Note: Core 0 is always on the left and Core 1 is always on the right:

Ok up to this point, I had basically used clockgen to go from 225htt ->255htt. Therefore, my Vcore and Vram were still the same as when I started. I got an error on 8m @ 255htt, so I tried to bump to Vram to get 8m to pass @ Default vcore. It still wasn't possible, so I had to go a little higher on the Vcore. And NO, my ram doesn't need 3.4V to run @ 255Mhz :p: It's capable of that @ probably 3.0V. I was just too lazy to change it:

Later I finded than the "A" letter that identifies Voltage isn't neither a fixed value (For example, 1.5V) neither a fixed range (For example, 1.4V-1.6V), then give the example of the ADA4800DAA6CD and OSA180DAA6CD where both got the same "A" letter for Voltage but with a diferent value. What I am sure about, is that I never sayed than the ADV isn't rare :p:

that's pretty sweet, 2.8ghz with 1.32v is awesome! Looks like they did something right with these new cores.

Now things have reached a bit of a stall here....I think signs of the coldbug are appearing @ 255+Mhz on the memory. I've had some serious problems running any speed with my memory >255. I've done a couple of runs @ 3.1G+ @ 1.5V, but I had to use a divider and the memory was way below 250Mhz. I'm trying to see what I can do about it and will post some more results later......

Well, I tried to combat the cold-bug by installing a cold-plate which theoretically should have lowered cpu temps. Instead, the cpu temps actually improved and holding temps did as well :rolleyes: The cpu's run into a serious cold-bug @ around -32C core. The only way I was able to make the following runs was to use a memory divider:

I think it's possible to get the cpu to at least make a screenshot if not run a spi @ 3.3-3.4G, but it would require a large amount of vcore which I'm not willing to try on this particular cpu :p:

Hmmm, well that's a tough question to answer considering this is an Dual Core X2 cpu and you're talking about a Single Core Opteron cpu :p: I guess it would be a possiblity but the OPN on it would have to be OSV 146XXXXXX....

Yeah. I guess the question would be "will we see these on 170/175's?"

It's semi-odd to me that that the asrock bios update file (L'inq'ed by-proxy right along with this thread :p: ) clearly shows it as 4400+ only, not the 4800+/170/175...only the lowest clocked part?

Perhaps they won't be opterons (which seem binned pretty high) because these are a stepping stock-undervolted/throttled because they can run the lower speed at those volts? That doesn't seem to imply any kind of better or worse clocks at higher than old or new stock volts though...although we havn't seen any non-phase results yet, so who knows.

As the 3 letter prefixes tend to indicate whole classes of parts, what do you imagine 'ADV' stands for?

Still desktop, but with a reduced TDP?

New DC DTR mobile?

The current ADA X2s range from 89W to 110W in terms of TDP, with the 4200+ and 3800+ at 89W, and the 4400+ and up at 110W.

Anything more you can say at this point?

The other puzzle-- so far, only the 4400 appears with an ADV OPN...

The DC mobile parts will be using socket M2, S1, or both. I'm afraid this is just a lower voltage desktop part, rather than the first sighting of the upcoming DC mobile parts.

The "V" in the OPN doesn't refer to the TDP of the cpu. TDP is derived from the third letter which follows the model number of the cpu for, or the "case temperature" and varies from cpu to cpu. The 3 letters in the start of an OPN as a group are not indicative of anything specific per say....rather they can be broken down into two parts. For example - the prefix ADAxxxxxxxxxx:

AD = Brand of processor - in this case, that would be AMD A64
A = Power limit - A = standard power

The only cpus different 3rd letter till this point have been the Opterons with the normal "OSAxxxxxxxxx" (Standard power limit), "OSKxxxxxxxxx" (OpteronHE - 55w power limit), and "OSBxxxxxxxxx" (OpteronEE - 30W power limit) ;)

Look Fab51 OPN guides. About power consumption (TDP/"Maximum rated power" or how you like to call it), besides the Opterons EE that falls in the "Up to 30 Watts" category that got OSK prefix and the Opteron HE that falls in the "Up to 55 Watts" category with OSB prefix, we also got the Mobile Athlons 64 (Desktop Replacement) with prefix AMA ("Up to 81.5 Watts"), the standard Mobile Athlon 64 with prefix AMN ("Up to 62 Watts") and the low power Mobile Athlon 64 with prefix AMD ("Up to 35 Watts"). If it doesn't indicates in some way TDP, what it does then?
The third letter of Case Temperature can but not necesarily is TDP related neither. For example, we got the AMN3400BIX5AR that in the third letter after the model number got an X letter for Maximum Case Temperature (The X means that the Maximum Case Temperature is 95C°) that is a standard Mobile Athlon 64 ("Up to 62 Watts") and the AMA3400BEX5AR that is a Desktop Replacement Athlon 64 ("Up to 81.5 Watts") with the same X, but the second letter after the model number that is for Voltage is diferent (E means 1.5 Volts, I means 1.4 Volts). This makes sense because the Maximum Case Temperature nothing seems related to power consumptions categories when you consider that Watts = Voltage * Amperage. Higher Frecuencies means higher Amperage, and because in my two OPN examples both got the same Frecuency, the Amperage is the same, so the only that can make the final Watts result change is Voltage, and that is exactly the diference bewthem boths OPNs. The same happens with Mobile Athlons XP and even with the rare but existant Low Power Athlons XP with AXDL prefix (1.5 Volts instead of the default 1.65 Volts).
However, as I mentioned early, in your Processor this is fairly unknow because for Voltage (And for Maximum Case Temperature too even if it doesn't matter for power consumption purposes), the A letter means just "Variable". It doesn't specify neither a fixed value or a range (Bewthem 1.30 Volts and 1.35 Volts for example), it just can be anything. If your OPN instead had a letter actually designating an specific Voltage and we could compare it to a regular Athlon 64 X2 4400+ that we know what Voltage ranges it may come to, it would be easy to prove than the ADV means another power consumption category.

The first 3 letters indicate a "class" of part, and beyond desktop/mobile/server these classes often determine different TDP families.

Case temperature limit does not directly correspond to TDP, but rather thermal density.

No, 90nm is indeed coming first, but the first 90nm output from Fab36 is scheduled for the end of Q1.

And we have a winner... Search for the CPU Support List of the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium and you will find the following:

Not likely a fluke - probably an example of a maturing platform and will be generally available in time.
I was lucky enough to get a low voltage barton desktop cpu which was fully unlocked - they only came out after the process was sufficiently matured that they could release lower TDP/voltage models.
This was also the case with Tbred B's if you cast your mind back.

i guess these are for mobile laptops like the new alienware

Reminds me up to me 3800+. It ain't got that ADV, (it's a regular ADA), but it does 2600Mhz at 1.26v, completely stable (STOCK COOLING, at -25º, it keeps those volts up to almost 2800Mhz). :)

No, the 128K is shared :p:

I doubt both theories, they just mislabeled the L1 cache part.
The chip still has 2 L1 caches, just lower power usage.

from that link to amd compare your actualy going to have to see the chip. The box is still going to be ADA4400CDBOX for both. I'll definitly be picking up one of these ADV4400's when they become available. Any news on that front?
