Seems like ATI's at least doing something right! Well... Sampsa at least. ;)
Thumbs up Sampsa! Would love to see some benchies! :toast:
Is that some artifacting I see on the edge of ati tool?Quote:

Finally syncronized GPU/GDDR work :D
He wouldn't be able to bench it, he's getting artifacts in 2d mode...
I would hardly call that hitting 1ghz/2ghz.
Of course, the milestone is now set either way.
Yes, but according to him the 1ghz core does not seem to be the problem, instead it's the ram. So, if he just lowered the memory a bit, I'm sure we'd see some excellent performance.
But it still shouldn't be able to take on two 7800GTX in SLI I think, or? Speaking of which, where are the X1800XT Crossfire benchies? I mean, are there no mastercards "out" yet (as in review samples)? Or? Why is everything so quiet?
yeah he artifacting in 2d, and he readily admitted it. However, those screens were taken with the mem running bare, and no cooling besides the ln2 canister on the GPU providing a bit of residual cooling.
Give him a few days to rig up some more Xtreme cooling for the mem and I can almost guarantee you he will be benching at 1Ghz/1Ghz, if not higher on the core. He said the core had absolutely no problems hitting 1Ghz, thats not its max, he just stopped there to grab the milestone for us. I dont think he's even tried anything higher than 1/1...that we know of. ;)
Well it does :stick:Quote:

God that looks good, I cant wait to see benching at those speeds. What sorta voltages are running?
Yup, its the first time four digits has been seen for the gpu...and it's just mindblowing !!!

LMAO...c'mon guys...
That just about sums things up...but hey I guess you guys like suicide screen shots...this is no different :p:Quote:

Anyhow, it's pretty cool :) Who would have ever thought about 2000!! TWO THOUSAND Mhz on GFX memory...very impressive. (an 1ghz GPU ofcourse :slobber: )
The first 10,000 was a suicide shot, the first 40k was a suicide shot, Tim. This is a first for the oc community, let's not discourage one of the greatest overclocker's in the world.
Though yes, Tim points out a valid issue that these clocks may not be stable, but I'm sure Sampsa will be working on that as well...I'm sure he doesnt want to break 1Ghz and bring down all the single card WRs in one day :p:

Gonna be damn cool :D :fact:Quote:

Yeah, could be, but do you think r520 is therefore that hot?

Although it's just the ram and the GPU clock IS 1ghz :D Very impressive there.
His container has a big mass, I guess he can control the temp around -80C if he wants. He probably has less condensation at -80C and waits with -150C for his big run.Quote:

Didn't we already cover the fact that highier clock speeds != better performance
You know like in the CPU Realm.. Prescott vs K8....
Dil and Tim, the RAM caused the artifacts.
1GHz GPU is very likeable benchable.
GREAT JOB SAMPSA! :toast:

 EVEN MORE THAN 1GHZ GPU????Quote:

This comparison doesn't really hold up. There are a lot of Ferraris in the world. There's only one guy with this screen shot. Would you make fun of the first guy to climb Everest because he couldn't do much more than breathe at that elevation? Rest assured that guys like Sampsa will not only be the first ones to explore uncharted territory, but also be the first ones to dance a naked jig there as well. :toast:Quote:

Press Release: ATI’s Radeon® X1800 XT Breaks 1 GHz Speed Barrier
- by Zardon On Oct 26, 2005 - 7:51 AM
ORI, FINLAND/ Munich, Germany – October 26, 2005 – An independent team of Finnish over-clockers has made world history by over-clocking a graphics processor to engine clock levels above 1 GHz. The record was set on the recently-announced Radeon® X1800 XT graphics processor from ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX: ATY, NASDAQ: ATYT).
Noted Finnish over-clockers Sampsa Kurri and Ville Suvanto achieved graphics engine clocks of 1.003 GHz and a memory speed of 1.881 GHz (940.50 MHz DDR (dual data-rate) memory clocks) with maximum system stability and no visual artifacts.
The team, optimistic that higher speeds could ultimately be achieved with the Radeon X1800 XT, attained the record speeds using a custom-built liquid nitrogen cooling system that cooled the graphics processor to minus-80 degrees Celsius. “We’re just warming up,” joked Kurri. “But we believe that the Radeon X1800 XT has even more over-clocking headroom, and in the coming weeks we expect to achieve higher clock speeds and even greater performance levels.”
“It’s impressive to see the Radeon X1800 XT architecture achieve 1 GHz core speed and approach 2 GHz memory speed, which far exceeds the specifications of the memory devices,” said Stan Ossias, Sr. Product Manager, Desktop Products, ATI Technologies Inc. “Once faster GDDR-4 memory arrives next year, users can expect to see the hidden potential of ATI’s innovative new memory controller design complement our powerful shader engines with massive additional memory clock scalability.”
A screen shot can be found at: http://www.muropaketti.com/r520_ghz.png.
Radeon X1800 XT’s extreme clock-scaling capabilities are made possible by a series of key innovations that include use of the state-of-the-art 90-nanometer semiconductor process technology, an efficient new Ultra-threaded Shader Model 3.0 architecture, and a revolutionary new 512-bit ring-bus memory controller.

Maybe this is why ati has delayed so much..
ati ftw :bananal:
I'm afraid this topic has been posted before.

It's good there's a press release now though ;)

I recieved an email correspondance from ATI. I find it odd that an investor, such as myself, would even relate extreme overclocking ability with my investments potential. As a matter of fact, I find it rather kiddish. But here you go:

I'm always one step behind perkam :) I just recieved this information a hour ago.
Thats ok, a quick scan of the front page of the xs news section should be enough to tell whether a story has been posted before or not...most of the time.
Np. Its new news, just old topic, hence this thread. Don't want that many threads on the same topic cluttering the section.
Thx for posting the news though. :) I was wondering when the press release would come :D

It's not discouraging if Sampsa has any balls, which he does. It's challenging. Just 'cause the remark sounds negative doesn't mean its a discouragement. Haven't you ever played sports with a coach?Quote:

with the memory at 2ghz it crashed, but with the memory slower, maybe the core is fine at 1ghz
Oh guys...here is something that 3DChipset said about it....and I agree 100%
I'm totally.....I mean TOTALLY DONE WITH ATI   :down:Quote:
I like poking fun at these unrealistic press releases. Sure if we all had liquid nitrogen sitting next too are desks we can achieve the same thing. Instead of having these stupid press releases, how about actually DELIVERING THE PRODUCT! Stuff like this is interesting, but so is actually buying the product mentioned above!
I hope they get such a smackdown from nVidia's new GTX that they will finally realise that the PR department isn't supposed to be the most active department in a company......and get back into REAL business...to the thing that is called "real life"
Geeeeeez.... :shakes: :slapass:

Sometimes i wonder if people get paid for all this ANTI-ATI stuff thats been going on lately.
I mean some people here wont buy the X1800XT card and will stick to Nvidia, so why dont you just smile and be silent about the card is late ?
There is a release date when the card will be avaible so until then i dont understand why you ask it over and over again "Where is the card ??"
If anyone should be upset and make noise then its the people that want to buy the card, anyone else just look like a annoying person that keep bashing the company for no known reason.
Fine with everyone here, your decision.Quote:

Making an architecture that will in future support higher clocked cores and MUCH higher clocked memory is a fact of life for ATI developers, and so are setbacks Tim. ATI has had a setback. It has never tried to hide it. This press release was in part to congratulate Sampsa on his achievement as a testament to the potential of the card.Quote:

Number One thing to remember here is that we all need to stay on topic. This is getting way out of hand if everyone has repeated urge to give their overall opinion on ATI everytime they see them accomplish something. That's called bias, gentlemen, and I'd rather not have any here in the xs news section. Lets try to back up what we are saying with NEW information, not the same ol jazz, X company cant do this, Y company can climb a mountain blindfolded.
Lets keep on track and try to liven the discussion, not try to give it a one-way ticket to "FanBoy's Unite !!: The Musical" every chance we get.

Cleaning up wont help it, cuz all thread will end up the same.
The news section here is really really fast compared to many other sites and its a pleasure to post something new, and a little of a contest to find stuff faster then others.
But as soon as the news is about gfx cards then its this constant attack on ATI.
I never ever see people puke over Nvidia, and it will never start i think.
Please do something before this looks like a very stupid news forum.
Some people act like this is a clanmatch in CS.
Man these x1800 clocks are brutal. Is heat a limiting factor or do they clock real well on air too?
Hey what's up with todays Inquirer story.. http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27252
Someone should get their facts right :stick:
No because I waited fricking 6 months on this card and you can't even buy it...that's why, but your right, I will just leave this thread... :)Quote:

I'm sure you can understand his frustration. ATi making PR statements of what the few select overclockers who were given the card are doing with it, and still not being able to buy them. Sort of reminds us of Macci trying CF about 6 months ago, and it finally being available this month. It's a bit over-the-top that they're even emailing stock holders about it though.
To those who don't seem to understand, this was a paper launch... If you give your product out to be reviewed when it cannot be bought in stores, and release NDA before you can buy it, that is a paper launch...End of story.
Anyway, enough off-topic chit-chat, let's get back on track.
Congrats sampsa, personally I'm not impressed until we see some scores, and not just a screenshot, but congrats none-the-less on setting yet another record.
Yeah Congrats Sampsa...good job :toast:
