G.Skill 2x512MB PC4400FC (TCCD) OCing Report!

Sup X'ers!

Few days ago I received, what I should call, a *NEW* batch/revision of G.Skill F1-4400DSU2-1GBFC to play with. Among a plethora of different speed grades, this 2x512MB was placed on the bottom of G.Skill Extreme Series, meaning it's the cheapest choice from that line. The specifications are telling us that this kit is rated at 2.5-4-4-8 (PC4400) @ 2.7~2.9v.
All of the FC reviews I found on the Net mentioned that ICs used to build those modules were Samsung TCC5 0522. But apparently, G.Skill was switching ICs on this kit from TCCD to TCC5 and very recently back to TCCD again. I was informed, that the latest batch of those kits (including mine) had definetely TCCD ICs fitted onto them. Due to the fact that all G.Skill modules shipped after June 2005 are covered with heatspreaders, confirming that was not as obvious. But I manged to take a glimpse at the ICs thanks to a little gap that can be found between ICs in the middle of the module and a heatspreader. That confirmed what I was told - the kit I had was build with Samsung TCCD 0519 ICs.

Now that we have that out of the way, let's give my old Canon 2MP some 15 seconds of fame :lol: Kit's photos are next... ;)

This kit's default spec is 275Mhz 7-4-4-2.5-1T but I decided to fire it up at 275Mhz 6-3-3-2.5-1T @ 2.5v :)

All looked damn fine as SPi32M run @ 2.5v (2.54v with a DMM) so next step was SP2004.

Great news is this RAM was very stable at 275MHz 6-3-3-2.5-1T with barely above 2.50v :) Bad news is, that after over an hour of playing in BIOS I could not get that kit stable at much over that and keeping TRCD=3 :(

So, next step was, loosening TRCD to 4 and go for a ride :lol:
From this moment prepare for SuperPi 32M GALORE!!!

This is the point where I decided to drop the multiplier on my SD 3700+ as I was approaching it's maximum benchable speed. That means, this kit forced me to play with x10 multi :lol:

Conclusion

Basically, I was very impressed that G.Skill PC4400FC, which is rated at lowly 275Mhz 7-4-4-2.5-1T, performs that well. I'm pretty sure that during the next few days I might be able to push them a little further and maybe work on getting this kit to work @ TRCD=3 at higher that DDR550 speed.
Considering that PC4400FC is the cheapest (about $180) of all G.Skill Extreme Series memory products, it managed to deliver quite nice and stable results.

Thanks for willing to read and watch this sort of long quasi-review :D

Alright, with TRCD=4 performance so good it looks like it'll still be a GREAT buy if the sticks all perform close to yours.

It all depends on who you ask ;) OPB says that it should never be run @ >~12.35 Volts (and he's probably right if Oskar Wu gave him that advice). I say a high 12V rail just gives a little "cushion" for stability. I've never run into issues with a high 12v rail - I always ran my 12v on my Zippy @ 12.81 and this PCP&C 510 now @ 12.73. I figure I'm still within 10% of spec so I'm OK :p: OPB always tells me I need to lower my 12v rail, but I always respond with - "Well, I've seen a spi32m run by Bachus Anonym with his 12v rail @ 12.93" :D

What version of windows server is that you are using?
Is that the 64bit version?
I'm downloading the 32 bit trial version right now.

Your 32M at 310x10 is 3 seconds faster than mine with the same settings, could that be due to windows server OS?

Unfortunately, I could not find a way to take a good close up of markings alone (to hard to hold a camera and memory module at the same time for a good pic) so you have to believe me :p: Apparently, those new modules (#0509, 0510) are made of TCCD again...

I'm pretty sure they can go at least 5Mhz further, 32M stable ;) I will try later, though...

If I haven't had such a great mounting job done to my cooler I would have torn it apart and do some air OCs :lol: But I can assure you that it will definetely go higher since I can fairly easy Prime LargeFFT @ 310Mhz for more than hour today. I can run only 1M @ 315Mhz 7-3-4-2.5-1T 2.75v but that's about all for now. I'm not gonna switch to 2T as results are just embarassing :D
I hate DOS memtest from all my heart and I just wanted to double-check today why :) So, I can do #5 and #8 for about 60 minutes at 300Mhz 7-3-3-2.5-1T 2.75v but in Windows this is so unstable like there's no tommorow :lol: But I'm on a mission now to get "TRCD=3 clocks" up a bit ;)

EDIT: I just re-read your question. Oops :D Actually, I would not be so sure about that, you know George. I don't personally believe in that. especially, since AMD's 90nm, when the colder you go, the worse sometimes it can be. I experienced that with a Winchester and I'm somewhat seeing that now, with San Diego 3700+. E.g, once I see -22C in BIOS, chances are (and it happens) that I cannot even boot to Windows @ 310+HTT. On air, 330HTT is never a problem. So, it's the other way around.

Do you have a screenshot for that, please? Maybe @ 310 and then 320Mhz, so we can compare ;) I'm asking because 1M was the only SPi calculation you run throughout whole your review. Also, why show 1M if it's good for 32M? Just checking, it's my nature... :D
