I hate to say it, but Nvidia has a much smarter design here. The Nvidia card looks to be slightly smaller, consumes about 1/2 the wattage that the ATI X1800XT consumes, has a 1 slot cooling solution for the GTX, and a very smart multipart core that varies its speeds based on what's being done.

If Nvidia pulls out all the stops here, I believe they will crush ATI. Nvidia has so much room for improvement with their cards that I think they are just taunting ATI right now. I'm going to wait to see what Nvidia's next move is before I decide which way I'm going. I must admit that the SM3.0 support is definately a much needed implementation on ATI's cards. However, Nvidia has been supporting that for 2 generations now, so they know how the SM3.0 works at this point. I think there will be much optimization with their drivers coming up real shortly.

This looks great and all, but how about some game tests, like HL2, CS:S, Doom 3(just to see where it sits vs. Nvidia). ATI has always done better in 3DMark.

And also remember, these are on launch drivers, the gtx has gone through several driver optimizations.

Furthermore, you're using an FX-55 at 2.9 ghz vs a sandy at 2.8, so yes it equals out, but that it equals out at launch with overclocking on air is impressive.

630/1410 is a nice OC and nice score

stock is 500/1200 (depending on manufacture) so 21% core and 15% mem.

if a X1800 could get to 751 / 1725 mem i wonder what those scores would climb too :slobber:

also equalize the CPU clock by upping the 2.79 160mhz to 2.95mhz like the FX cpu.

Has anyone even seen these for sale? Has anyone seen any x1800 card for sale. Nice vaporware but no one is going to be able to buy one and at that power consuption rate I don't think I would trust anything less than a zippy 700 watter to run it.

It's about 1k lower than I anticipated....then again I expect big things from big OCers with corporate provided LN2. :shrug:

The X1800XL is scheduled to arrive in NA stores Oct. 10.
The X1800XT will arrive Nov. 1st.

Expect the XL to launch at ~$450. If you can find one with a rebate below $400, you might as well start bashing your head in advance for the mere possibility of missing the deal.

I'm looking forward to the Pro and the LE version of the X1800...if either of them actually exist :confused:

Well, I have to say I am pleasantly surprised that the x1800XT performs as well as it does. Especially after all the rumors about how slow it was. It looks very competitive, indeed ,in the single card category. Dual card, however, th story changes.

I really have to invest in a better CPU.

I think what happened is they didn't have pics of the final bench setup, just card testing in those shots. Based on the ram speed I'd say they had the FX on LN2.

If ATI fails big time then there wont be any hurry to make faster cards for Nvidia. And that would be very bad for people that want new tech and faster cards every 6-12 month.

Than again, the price/performance ratio is what we need to consider here. 7800GTX plus a suitable mobo < than a single X1800XT that has AVIVO and is 10% faster in some games. I think we need to be more practicle and decide if its worth it...

nVidia does not have a new card, per sey, but when the 512 MB versions come out, there may be a spec change. I suspect that it will not only be a memory capacity change, but also type. GDDR3 1.2 at 1400 Mhz. This type is now more plentiful than it was a few months ago. If they had chose this for the 7800 GTX early this spring when they ramped up production for launch, they may have run into supply issues. We also have to consider the 90 nm stepping available in January, which is expected to clock a little higher. Combine those two, and we could have a 600 MHz 7800 GTX with 512 MB of GDDR3 at 1400 Mhz before we can get the ATI in good supply.

ATI has their work cut out for them. The 7800 GTX is now available for as low as $400 US, in very good supply, and with similar performance. I think the nVidia may lock up a number of potential sales before the ATI can supply a single vendor with the XT. There will always be those that choose the ATI because it is tad faster (pretty much all the benchers here at XS), but the majority will look at the value proposition of the 7800 vs the ATI, and go nVidia strictly based on price.

I think the headline should read, "x1800XT, soon to be King of the Single Cards."

One last thing, IMO, Nvidia has ATI by the ballz right now. Not only does ATI *still* not have a new gen Flagship model, but they also do not have dual card solutions out yet either, leaving Nvidia to take the crown in both single and dual card performance. Now before i get accused of being an nvida fan because i have a 6800 in my sig, my last card was a 9600XT which i loved, until it crapped out on me and it took me shipping it back to ATI THREE friggin times to get it back right. Also, i had an X800XT PE preordered last year, and that too kept getting delayed, so i got tired of waiting and said **** it and bought the 6800GT in my sig, got GREAT performance, and saved about $75-$100. :fact:

I could by a x1880xl in 7 days in a brick and mortar shop from what they say for 419€ pretty much the same than what i would have to pay for a 7800gt, there are 4 models available in the shops around with an average price of 409€.

Quite a bit of OT actually ;) Accusations of fanboyism only derail threads, and so does dwelving on the opinions of one member. However, MickeyMouse is one of few members here who have regularly pushed hardware to their limits...so dont place his expertise in the fan boy bin.

Everyone speculates when the cards that ppl are supposed to have already are coming out in a month...and even those promises begin to seem shaky after so many paper launches.

ATI's the underdog here, and it has made mistakes, so criticism should be expected...and if not from an Nvidia fan then from who else ? Certainly it wasnt Matrox that launch a nex gen 24-pipe monster on the same day that as its release date. ;)

Despite its shorfalls, i still >>> :slobber: <<< at the X1800XL knowing well that it has one of ATI's older cores, but that's just me :) .

Umm this isn't about politics and if it was we would all be screwed becuase video cards every single release would be 10x better than the previous generation and you wouldn't know if they even worked at all until you purchased one

It's not the American system that causes this. We control sales tax at a state level and not at the federal level.

We have states that dont charge sales tax at all.

and arent these actually 32pp cards with 1/2 disabled for faster clocks?

whos going to be the first to try and unlock some of those unused pipes on the xt? for me this card excites me, its always been fun buying a low end card and modding it to be a top end card, but imagine buying a top end card and modding it something untouchable? certainly, the odds of unlocking pipes are very low, but i think some experimentation could be fun, dont you?

Iam not an Nvidia fan but 24 pipes = less heat and better performance on slower clocks.

love to see a 625mhz card with 24 pipes on hand :slobber:
