hmmmm could be those 1.33x better than normal pipes.... That may really make r520 a beast...

wow thats actually pretty good. I get about 14k with the X700 @ 460~/280~ on a 2.36ghz(205fsb) barton. nothing much is tweaked on it though.

I'm guessing maybe $140USD? For a mainstream card seems realistic. Initial prices could be high though

Finally . Some tests we all could believe in. Pretty nice score with low-end card. I smell 3D Mark new WR within this year with R520 :D
But really can`t wait for mainstream cards test results - IMO as many ppl.

I dunno, I get over 26K on 01, nearly 9K on 03 easily with a 700 pro and it's a cheap card....these things will have to sell for next to nothing to make them attractive....

the x700 pro with 128 is 134.00 US here in Canada, with 256 Megs it's more (around 165 ish), and the 800 GT with 256 DDR3 is around 180 US....

All are faster cards..... this thing has to be cheap cheap cheap to make sense to me....

hmmm if this card scores 6500 in 3d03 with 4 pipes then r520, which has 4 times more pipes should score 26k??? or am i completely wrong? it also has higher clocks and mem bandwidth...

and I would assume that your not scoring over 26k with a stock x700? so if this has the potential to clock higher then it will be a good low end card...
and this bodes quite well for the R520.

Holy :banana::banana::banana::banana:...that's the bottom of the line card equalling a 9800Pro! That's not even the X1300Pro...

Anyway, for what it's worth, efficiency definitely seems to be up as a 4 pipe 128-bit card competes quite well with an 8-pipe 256-bit card (all at around the same clocks). I know there are generations between--but outside of the HM and 64-bit versions, this is the BOTTOMOFTHELINE card that ATi will be offering--it's an LE!

That says nothing about the performance of the R520 though except it will probably be better than the R420/480.

hmm.. it does VERY well for 4 pipes, but my x700pro kills it.. so no reason to buy this card, other than being tricked by marketing..

remember that this card also has other features and you alwyas have to wait for the price if it is 50bucks would be a hell of a card :)

Even the low end RV515 cards will utilize some form of H.264 decoding and/or HDCP support, making these cards extremely attractive for DVR machines.

I'm considering making an X2 DVR/Crunching machine with one of these, TBH.

Jetway + 3800+ + X1300LE + my non-used Redline + a nice TV decoder should be very good for both :D

the x700 pro at stock scores higher... for 134 US dollars for 128... about 160-165 US Dollars for 256...

If both cards overclock equally well, the x700pro will still beat it (this is unknown and mere postulation).

My point wasn't which card is faster, it was where the price point will have to be on this card to make it desireable compared to what's already on the market...

If it offers less performance that the x700pro, it should cost less money... neigh?

So let's assume the pro edition of this card is a match or faster than the x700Pro. It should be in the ballbark cost wise? right? Or you can buy a Sapphite X800 GTO2 and unlock the pipes making it a screamer guaranteed for 220 US retail (announced)....

I dunno, I don't see the attraction in this card unless it sell in the 150-155 dollar price range for 256Megs (you'll still get whupped by a x700 pro with 128 in benchies...but hey...who cares right?)

I don't like seeing that this budget card almost beats my oc'ed X700 pro (-200 at 05). I want to see the X1600!! I am already knowing that's gonna be my new card :D

RV515 is designed for value.

X1300LE 128-bit is the third lowest X1k card. X1300LE 64-bit and X1300HyperMemory are lower. This info is at anandtech and a copy of that info is in the link metro provided.

You assumed it was the LE when it didn't specify. He only said it has 128-bit memory which both the Pro and standard LE support.

I'd like to think it was the Pro, since I'd scarcely think they'd be getting 9800 Pro performance out of a 4-pipe card without some high clockspeeds. I mean this is more than double the performance of the X600 Pro. 30% improvement in pipeline efficiency isn't going to give you THAT much improvement. Clockspeed would have to compensate for the rest.

And I totally agree with your last statment... I am very hopeful if a four pipe card is doing that in LE version...

and to Martijn-I think that pro can do better :) in the 4K range at 05 .... and over 8K on 03 ....might be fun to try anyhow!

Indeed. I know pipelines don't necessarily improve performance linearly, but at this rate if a X1300LE clocked at 450MHz and with less memory bandwidth than a X600 Pro can double its performance, then the X1800XT should theoretically be MASSIVELY improved over the previous gen. Enough so to beat the GTX not just by a little, but by a significant amount. That would sort of go against all the rumors saying it would only marginally beat the GTX.

There's more to a graphics card than memory.....I'm sure if we had a TSMC Tech Support guy on the forum he'd look at the small core and think the same thing ;)

Yup... i'm liking what I'm seeing though. The amount of improvements that ATI has attempted is what delayed and fubared it and caused the respin's, but it looks like its massively paying off

I agree completely. It just doesnt feel right. Granted this team was the same ones who made the miraculous 9700PRO so I do not doubt their skill. It just feels *unusually* fast for a 4 pipe card.

More power to em tho if this reflects the rest of the series people will stop :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:ing about how late the R520 was.

btw one thing to consider is that it is probably much lower latency DDR2 then what we have seen on older cards. as we all know timings can effect performance almost as much as clocks can.

Actually it was the 9800Pro 256MB that had DDR2...the XTs used DDR1 and the ASUS 256PROs used DDR1 as well.

Anyway, I don't care what it uses as long as it's a good performer for the price and ATi makes good money off of it.

why has the guy hidden all possible references to what the card might be, in those pics? I can't get onto the forum, but that means that the card is about 2x as efficient as previous 4 pipe cards. Tough to swallow - although it would be a welcome suprise. I guess a combination of more efficient memory, more efficient pipes, and whatever else ATI have cooked up COULD make it that fast.

A good comparison would be a 4 pipe card with similar clocks and 128bit memory bus

it is possible.

-Lower timings on the RAM
-I recall hearing that ATI ENTIRELY redesigned their memory controller, that would help a bundle also I reckon
-Pipelines, we don't know the details about the pipes but if these pipes are 1.33 times a normal pipe, if you take into account some other new features this could add up to the score/performance you see there
-Architecture, a new architecture could be the reason for the respins and the low yields in the beginning that will hopefully be worked out because new architectures ALWAYS have a lot of problems with introduction and getting the bugs out of them
-PCB design. I haven't looked at it good yet but a good PCB can do a lot to, (remember brainpower PCB's versus "Normal" RAM PCB's? helped performance also
comebine that and you get a nice fuzzy feeling if it appears to be true.

if this is a forebod of the R520 I welcome it with open arms. Was about time we saw something "real" about ATI's new cards.

we are from the same site, we are currently testing a reference crossfire mobo with 2x850xt.
