Genuine Intel(R) CPU 6.00GHz (ES) WTF? 4mb L3? Please help...

Ive been floating around all the major forums for several years now and i can usually find any info I ever needed by just searching, but now I have a problem...

Can someone identify this CPU correctly?

Prescott mobile? but theres that NX thing or whatever..
P4 EE? wheres the L3 cache?
Nocona...wtf? thats prolly why it thinks is a EE
Ive seen it default boot at 14x100 and 16x100 after clearing CMOS

Front of the CPU has been lapped smooth...nothing shows
Crystal ID say its 266fsb default 1066fsb s478?
Execute Disable Bit does work
TM2 is not enabled
No L3 cache from what ive seen.
Multiplier is unlocked from 14 to 60x :eek:

I traded this CPU for my 2.6C that did 255fsb@3.3ghz for the past several years without a sweat.

Ive been trying to find a MB that will support this type of CPU.

Boards that do not boot past post:
Abit IC7, IC7-G, IS7, AI7, and Asus P4S800DX. All had latest bios revisions.

The only board that I found working is the Gigabyte S661FXM-RZ
that is the board I used for CPU-Z.

Current PC Specs: 3200ghz@200fsb all default settings

P4??????????? :mad:
512mb Corsair DDR500pro
Vantec 520 PS
Zalman 7700cu temps were in the 38-39idle and 50@load
WD 36gb Raptor

I will have that same setup running again tommorrow if more info or tests are needed.
Please Help me out...someone...
Im thinking about selling it and get a 30 capper northy and call it a day...

haha, how coool is that?

mpga-604 is for zeons, making it a 800mhz bus 3200mhz zeon, supporting 64 bit, 90nm, 1mb L2, no L3, it all fits - this particular zeon is an 800fsb cpu, have a look at the cpu in the third column

yes yes, that's all correct....except for the fact that it thinks it is a mpga-478 cpu :confused:

arent extreme editions based on xeons? haha, ill bet you have yourself an engineering sample zeon, thats why it sees it as an extreme edition and doesnt read its speed correctly....

maybe they put the wrong core into the wrong pcb :confused:

hehe, you KNOW there is some guy somewhere in the world sitting there trying to figure out what the h3ll happened to his new zeon :D

it tries to run at 6.0ghz with some older MBs, but of course it just freezes

Try and get as low as possible fsb x the highest multi first. It may say some multis are unlocked but quite a few may be insanely unstable.

It's possible that it overheats as you raise the clocks, but doesn't need the volts so high.

Hey guys,

Ill take pics of the bios and pins tonite when I get off work. Its not gonna be that detailed. I dont have a digital camera but my cell takes pretty good shots.

I also have a bunch of other software CPU identification dumps that I'll post later...

I havent tried the Asus boards yet, the local frys is probally pretty pissed at me for returning all these boards... :p:

from the cpuz specs it looks like its just a normal es nocona. all of them up to 3.73 read as 6.0ghz, dempseys do also.

being that its an s478 thats very interesting :)

Update... I snaped some pics of the front and back of the CPU with my friend digi cam and it actually is pretty clear. My PC is almost back up and running so Ill get pics of the bios pretty soon.

I remember that some of the software IDs said its a 423pin.
There was one that actually gave it the correct socket type 478 I'll find it later.

Neways...back to my problem. Does anyone know of a board that I can use to run this? From what i've heard, the 875 gigabyte boards can run these chips, but arent they the slowest 875 boards on the block?

The Latency test from CPU-Z most likely has a bug...Ive been benchmarking it last night and I am pretty sure it does NOT have the 4MB L3 Cache.
I havent been able to duplicate that same result. One instance it actually detected L4 cache???? Ive been getting either 1mb L2 or 1MB L3 and it fluctuates...I dont know...Its definatly a wierd CPU.

Ill post the benches tonite when I get off work.

Have you tried to contact the Intel tech support ? Ask then what a heck is that cpu , maybe they have some software to identify it correctly .

There is not law saying you cant specifically own an intel ES chip, just a theft laws, they are intels property and as so yes teft laws apply to people who sell them. Its kinda like how the US government owns your money.

3.2EE E0 prescott core (semi rare) on 661FX chipset does wierd things.

It was a prospect from 200~266FSB on E0 that was soon after switched to N0 core with 2MB L2 cache.

This was not a galatin core EE A0 or A1

Some of the confusion is 661FX chipset.

P4C800 mobo should work fine and you should have an 8x multiple.

One thing that should stand out is that this chip is a socket 478.

It isn't a Gallatin core. Fugger said it was a prescott based EE.

I've heard of a special way where crystal structure changes and at such a state the procesor could run @ twice as high frequencies. Is that what you are talking about? :)

Although the one is abit related to the other.
Every superconductor has it's own Tc (=critical temperature = temp where the resistance go 0Ohm). Some of their Tc's are nearly 0K (thought it was quicksilver). And that kind a cooling is quite expensive :D

However, a nice theory but still all the current available CPU's are still SemiConductors

When semi-conductors reach 0K they enter a ground state to which they have no electrons in the conduction band.

I've heard of basic cpus made from superconductors. Was wondering though, couldn't you theoretically reach an infinite speed, as they won't be consuming power since 0 resistance.

At 0K everything has the least amount of energy, and thus it does move. AZ is merely the name for the absolute bottom boundary, as the agreed upon laws of physics do not allow particles to have zero energy.

However until someone actually reaches so low it is impossible to tell with 100% accuracy.

There is new particle theory that states motion is not required for that energy to be present... but until I get my own particle accelerator, I can't prove a thing....now there would be an xtreme project :)

i think superconductors ONLY work well at veeeeeeeery low temps, but im not sure, heard something about superconductors that are being engineered to work at higher temps.......

A superconductor, depending on the material, might not even conduct electricity at room temperature. It has limited advantages unless in a state of super conduction. Yes, they working to find stuff that'll superconduct at room temp.

Throwing in the towel on the CPU

Hey,

Just wanna give this an update...I still have the 3.2 CPU that im not using,
as I just bought a 3.4C 30capper and a 560J 775 CPU for dirt cheap.

The 3.4C goes up to 3.8ghz stable aircooled on my IC7-G.
(Im Happy) It boots at 3.99 but freezes in windows.

Havent tried the 775 yet but will soon. Need to decide on a good MB....

I will be posting the 3.2 up for sale, since Im not using it, might as well...if anyone is interested email me as I dont think this is appropriate to discuss sales in this forum.

I have to agree with Fugger...it is simply an Prescott E0 ES CPU that happens to be fully unlocked (the 14-60x range has been proven as the entire range defined for the Prescott by the Pentium 840 Extreme CPUs, which are also fully unlocked).

Other than that, there's not too much special about it, except the 64 bit ability, which may or may not work. Finding 64 bit i875 drivers may also be an issue...

It's going to be hard to find out the validated speed of the chip (default clock). Most likely it doesn't have one...;)

this new theory i think you reffer to is called quantum leep, it's calledquantum leap because it looks like the electrons leeping even though electrons are moving smoothly. (electrons can appear to not be moving or to be leaping) don't quote me cuz i'm not 100 percent sure

The CERN particle accelerator is built 100 meters underground and is a 27Km circe that passes by geneva airport. Half of it is in France and the other half is in Switzerland.

Newer materials enter a superconducting state of 140K. Which would be alot easier to maintain than the older materials which require a few degrees kelvin.
