Well guys, it seems we DEFINITELY have ourselves a new best *bang for buck* videocard. If this is true, we'll see 16 pipes for as low as $150-$200. I can't believe it myself... An X850xt for only $200? Just add an ATi silencer, flash a bios, and there you go. Also, they're cross-fire compatible.
Big news, slightly less big news if ATI's refurb x800xt's for $206 ever actually ship.
I strongly suspect these will have a high failure rate for 100% unlock. Maybe a lot will get 12 pipes open though.
Yeah...Sounds fishy. Either failure rate of the pipes will be high, or enabling them if successful will seriously hamper your core clock. There's a reason why they're GT's and not x850xts. Either they couldn't hit 540mhz, or some of the quads didn't work...or both. Best you can hope for is one or the other.
Like you said, cooling may help this...but 140 GBP = $250 USD...So if it's anywhere around there, plus add cooling and that's getting into what, $250-$275ish? Sounds like quite a bit for a crapshoot. I reckon the 6800gt will be (and is) a much better deal at it's ~$300 pricetag. I'm sure you'll see real X850xt's at ~$300 too as soon as R520 comes out.
I just think this X800GT product is a pile...Terrible idea, terrible timing, terrible price. Oh yeah...and mediocore performance. I was hoping for so much more...like this crapshoot cheaper, or more easier-guarenteed working extra pipes after some kind of mod if at this price. Instead, it's neither.
where in the article does it say that the rx is different from the gt? tey even say the rx is just a rename. Saying it was crossfire compatable was probably a mistake, unless all gt cards are going to be.

The difference here between the RX and the GT you ask?
The GT uses HARDLOCKED cores, and no one has yet found a way to unlock them.
The RX uses bioslocked cores, and *should* unlock with a simple bios flash. They have the same ram as the x850xt, same core as the x850xt, just different heatsink...
Now, these *could* just be cores that didn't make the cut, kinda like the old 256 bit 9800se's, or even more so, the Rev. A1-A3 NV43's(which had a 100% chance to unlock if you remember!). We'll find out soon enough, they supposidly released today.
i have club3d x800rx, 1.6ns mem, r480 core. no luck with flashing. bios lock my ass :slapass:
how much are you able to overclock it?
were you able to get into Windows long enough to maybe "underclock" it? i suspect that it's just a power issue...Quote:

I have the same card, 1.6ns mem, R480 core, etc. I dont know if it is normal (seriously hope it isn't), but, the scores in 3DMark05 and 03 are awful - 2200 and 5800 pts. are you sure you accually flashed the x850 bios onto it? i also thought so... but when i came in windows everest showed me my bios nr. (112-XXA474x-xxx) ... i found that number in my old saved (x800rx) bios file, the x850 bios file had the number 113-A47411-101 .4\B .... i guess the force option wasn't very forcing, cause it didn't force anything :rolleyes:Quote:

hello! got myself one of these badboys, just wondering if anyone's had any luck in unlocking those pipelines... I'm sure it's possible, even the box suggests that the card is "...capable of up to 16 pipelines" or something along those lines! There's mentions of success in flashing the BIOS to an 850xt but still with only 8 pipelines - isn't that essentially still just an 800gt? there shouldn't be any performance increases, should there? :stick:
Oh and another thing, who's circulating the rumour that club3d only softlocked the pipeslines for the x800rx? it sure doesn't say it anywhere on official literature. I got a feeling this is a devious ploy by club3d to justify the extra 10£ rrp on their cards.

This looks a lot more promising as no one has made a modified GT bios. Most people have resigned to the fact that GT cards are hardlocked. So this modified GTO bios is probably the closest thing we're gonna get to 16 pipelines.
If this doesn't work then I think I'm resigned to the fact that Club3D has done a fantastic job in duping us all. I say this because my ATItool reports that I have a R423 core, rather than the promised R480, if this is true then I really have bought into the rumours with the extra £10-15, damn you club3d!!! :cussing: :cussing: :cussing:
Actually, can someone check ATItool for me and see what chipset it reports you as having? The fact that ATItool reports me as having a R423 core may just be ATItool reporting incorrectly, however if they truly have sold me a R423 chip then it's perfectly reasonable for me to take it back as they themselves clearly have stated on their website that the X800RX comes with a R480 core:

Paying 10-15£ extra for a X800GT i certainly expected a little bit more. All will be forgiven though if 16 pipelines were to be enabled :rolleyes:

Well, if the GTO BIOS can be modified the RX BIOS might be modified too, but how? Is there a BIOS editor compatible with these new BIOSes? I tried to open the RX bios with a couple of editors but none of them worked at all. Who modified the GTO bios and how?

did some tests with haft's card .. no go on the modding .. gpu is hardware locked
i tried x850pro and x800gto bioses and i got black screen both time, i had to flash the original bios back blindly.

The guy reckons that our GT/RX cards can only be clocked 510-513MHz stably, and I tend to agree. My HL2 crashes regularly past this level. Anyone had better luck? I'm talking stable clocks here.
The guy also claims that the three companies; Sapphire, Powercolour and HIS have exclusive rights to distribute the GT, so how did Club3D manage to get their hands on the R480s??
I have x800RX with R480 core. I overclock it up to 615\560MHz from 475\490:)
When i tryed to flash bios from x850XT - my card became x850XT with 8pipes... and that's all :(
i find interesting thing - work temperature of my overclocked videocard was about 72C, after flashing bios from x850XT - temperature raised up to 92C with 520\540MHz... what does it mean? :confused:

Just got my powercolor x800gt bravo edition, R480 for sure, 2ns samsung ddr3 ram, any choice to get a x850xt? Don't think so BTW... It'd be crazy!... I'll take photos of the core when i get my digi cam if you want... :toast:

I'm pretty sure I have 2.0ns memory. After some fiddling with ATItool I have figured out that I can only clock my memory as high as 502-503Mhz but my core can go up to something ridiculous like 580+ without artifacts. But I guess that's pretty useless as the bottleneck would still be at the memory. Just by reading these posts, am I right in saying that some of us Club3D X800RX owners have 2.0ns memory and some have 1.6ns?? I find that hard to believe.

bought the card few hours ago..already tried like 5 6 bioses no problems flashing but i still have that 8 pipes i know this can't run 16 pipes..but atleast 12 ..the card should handle it fine :(

mine is 480 core and 1,6ns samsung mem
just rename it to BACKUP.rar from *.zip since i can't attach rars :D
