Well, now we are #2, time to brace the crunchers and pump out candidates. DPC isnt far away, lets show them what XS is made of! I think we can get 50k a day steady, lets go team!
Thats a bit skewed because Team Gaol did the dumps that has daily up higher than usual, but theres the goal people, theres the #1.Quote:

They are 5.5 million canidates away! Thats a lot! You could add the entire ars technica team frozen yogurt to our team and we still would be behind them. Yes they aren't as far away as when we first started we are definately gaining, but the stats lie due to the way they "dump" canidates. We would need to be doing around 60 - 70K a day to really have a realistic shot this year. They say themselve the buffers are empty so at the moment team gaol shouldn't be able to dump so much. If we can now ramp up and dump a nice bundel also we should be able to counter their dumps of the recent days.

Well people that do an incredible ammount of canidates daily lets say greater than 2,000 or higher ..... are spread out unless someone is doing a sporatic dump. Lets take our DDtung who relibles does 10,000 a day .... everyone on this team sees his production coming since hes got 170+ nodes and has bought more xeons then most small countries. He should be doing 10,000 a day! His production is spread out as correlating this many machines to dump all at the same time would take too much effort for anyone to do on a day to day basis. Plus no matter what he does hes going to dump in every 6 hours.Quote:

I decided to make a post about this in our forums .... some one from DPC / Gaol responds with a nicely laid out explanation .... This guy has infected many work machines and "milks them" at lunch time and the reason they dont have so many nodes is that they are all on a supernode, but it got me thinking how long is any lunch time and how many times does his company go out for lunch? Cause according to these dumps they have a 20 hour work day with three lunches and enough time during lunch to dump well over 100 top of the line pc's. This explanation raised a lot more questions than answered seemed too neat and by their stats impossible. Did he have 24 hour access to all his computers at work? He obviosily has admin rights so it could be logical he had 24 hour access to them, but this "milking" method mentioned before said he did it all at lunchtime. :nono: not according to their stats! It sounds like from that explanation and others also thought this .... He doesnt have the rights to run d2ol at work so he obviousily running the service hidden from users. Well this leads me down another path and its one I have some expierence with sneaking d2ol onto a machine without the users knowledge. The problem with this is that some idiot on one of his various machines is going to notice some thing using a) 50% resources on an HT CPU or b) something near 100% on a computer without it. Well trust me from experience someone always finds out. The user tells some random IT guy / sys admin and if they guy isnt a total baffon hes going to find it and destroy it. Maybe this Robert T. is this guy ..... would a sys admin knowingly put his job on the line for d2ol ? Usually not .... since it very much sounds that he doesnt have permission to run this or he wouldnt be out on his 3 breaks on his 20 hour work day. They most have been very long ones too cause it takes awhile to open the main d2ol task manager when you run it as a service which is the only way he could have manually update these.
My most damming evidence comes from the fact that they would do 200 a so every hour ..... a typical number for a mutliple machine network of 70 nodes. When they dumped in the big ammounts they always be 15,200 or 5,200 sometimes more but the xtra ammounts were erratic as they should be.
Well this leads me to believe they simply added a 15K or 5K dump. How on earth are you going to hit near the same dump everytime? You arent ..... and dont someone come in here and say 2 instances on a p4 ht = 4000.... well I got news for you buddy that 2nd instance isnt going to finish anywhere near as quick as the first one so he is wasting half his production and believe me he doesnt want me thinking hes got even more machines. :slapass:
Heres the kicker the Team Gaol start page for d2ol in which they tell you how to "dump" "milk" etc your canidates instead of plain jane normal auto upload tells you the one file you need and the way to store xtra canidates on your machine (3 outta 4 steps on how you cheat) ...... doesnt take a rocket scientist to see how to cheat from that.
I have pretty much made up my mind about Gaol .... heck this dump if over wasnt nearly as big as the last one. Maybe as a result of my last post? Maybe someone found his services running (on his nearly 100 machines at his company that takes 3 lunch breaks during a 20 hour work day)? Maybe they want to play fair ? Well if you dont agree with me ... fine .... but you believe this team is 100% legit and you have some decent experience with d2ol ... I'm just going to have to shake my head at you.
Entity_Razer, please remember that the guys who are posting the stats for DPC don't know what is going on in the subteams. So the guy you're qouting to prove their buffers are empty does not know sh*t about whether their buffers are empty or not. I'm not with gaol, so I don't know either.
Nofi, but I have the feeling too much people start yelling things that suggest to cheating when someone at DPC does a dump. Maybe som of you guys should realise there Ã:banana:s a reason why we are on top, its that we do can produce some numbers of cands ;) .
YES, u guys are going way faster then we are and YES at this speed you will get us. It's very hard to get people within DPC to switch to D2OL while we are the no. 1 with the no. 2 being at not even 1/2 of our total cands.
Now it's up to you to prove u can still reach your goal. I'm looking forward to the end of the year!

Looks like we are doing about 1000000 candidates in a month so we should be 6 months away before overtake (if our production stays this way).
no cuz as he just said, once we get near, more of DPC will switch to D2OL. We gotta increase production by loads to get them.

OK, first of all, I'm not here to represent Team_Gaol or their specific dumps.
Secondly, you can't take a look at the number of node's registered at D2OL to know how much PC's that member has running D2OL. The funny thing is you can have unlimited numbers of machines running under the same node number.
At the third place, since D2OL does not need te register DLL's or things like that, it is easily to copy a fresh D2OL folder right after install, put a node number inside and edit the config files to set buffers to 2000, reduce the 6-houres update time to a couple of minutes and make sure no screens will pop-up when starting d2ol. Now, the dumps can be regulated easily by opening and closing the ports D2OL uses to flush using your firewall/router/proxy/whatever. Every self-respecting sysadmin should be able to come up with this. With a little of programming experience it is even possible to write a program that can edit the config files on your demand. Run it on every PC running a node and it is possible to set large numbers of nodes to online, offline, on or off, every setting you want with a couple of keystrokes.
Number four. apparently you guys just like big numbers at your daily's every day. 'Megadumps' are not popular within the XS team. In DPC megadumps áre popular. It is a nice way for smaller member, like the subteam I am a member of, to get some attention in the stats. The result of smaller members doing 'megaflushes' is that the lager teams also start harvesting and doing big dumps to get on top of the list with largest dumps ever done.
A nice example of a subteam that does all the things I mentioned above is DPC_ICA_COWS. They have some office where they are allowed to run D2OL, they flush almost 0 cands on a regular day. But them, when there is some reason to flush, like a birthday from a team member or so, they can produce 200K++ dumps. THeir last dump was spread over 2 days, because the internet connection could not handle the huge amounts of cands.
I dont know anything specific on the dumps of gaol, I'm just trying to explain we at DPC have a different way of making DC fun. Huge dumps are fun to us. However, when after every big dump, that should deserve respect, a topic raises at XS where some people start calling DPC cheaters, I just have to think of my little brother and how he starts to act when he can't win a game of monopoly...
So, let's just keep on crunchin' and see whether you can make it to be the #1 before 1-1-2006.

Bad news is, (news I read there) They are planning a stampede. For you that don't know what a stampede is, it's a month lasting event where DPC organize like a fundraiser but with distributed computing programs. these "people" are playing with lives. Why did I and a lot of others do D2Ol and distributed folding? Because it would help people get better, but if you do their step 4 you don't contribute anything anymore.

Guys dont get discouraged even if Gaol is cheating they still cant beat us! Theres no reason to give up now ..... they are really hard to stomach, but they dont make up for the whole team. This whole D2ol DPC/Gaol megadump thing sounds like a pile of megadump, but heck we still got our sights set on them. Dont worry about them ......lets just keep the eye on the prize we made it this far.

Because you don't seem te be able to come up with a solution to various of your problems: All you need is the rights to execute a program from a remote location and a netwerk drive where a clean D2OL install including node.prp and config files suited for your needs is to be found. Now, let all machine's execute a .bat with instruction to copy this folder to the harddrive and intrustions to run a .reg thats makes a link to de executable in your Run regkey. Run the .bat on all machines (hell, you might even make a .bat to do that if the numbers are really large) and you're done. Now, is it really so difficult to come up with something like that?
I can't speak for Gaol, since I don't know what is going on within their subteam. That means that I simply can't answer all your questions. If you got some left that you think i should be able to answer, feel free to ask them.Quote:

Also I think there is a misunderstanding, but I'm not shure about this. First, someone states Gaol has '3 out of 4 steps to cheat' on their stats pages. Then someone says the 4th step was removed. Now, I would like to know whether the 4th step actually was there. Did one of you actually see this 4th step? I could not imagine it would not have been noticed by other subteams within DPC. Then again, I must admit I haven't seen their page about megaflushing at all, so I'm going to take a look at it right now.
I don't think the forth step was ever spelled out on the site. But it is pretty clear how to do it after reading how to do a megaflush.Quote:

Ive said it before in a large organisation a dump is quite easy to achieve if you have admin over a large number of machines, specially if you are running multipul subnets on your firewall. Yeah its certainily possible that they are actually doing this, but output is too erratic. It would be too much effort to have output like this. Do you know how much work that must be to have services on hundreds of computers? Their explanation is obviousily BS ..... perhaps they are legitimately doing it, but not from their explanation. Thanks Blue for one more possible way they could do this and just proves my point that it would be way too much effort to get a concentrated output of candidates that just happens to be 15k or 5K more than they did on ordinary hour.
Did you even read my post? It is really simple to set the 6 houres interval between the dumps to several minuten. Please, before you start whining it is not possible to do those dumps, do some research yourself. It Ã:banana:s possible and it isn't difficult. I'm not an sys-admin, so did not even thought of things like subnets to make it even better to regulate, but I do can think of multiple ways to do massive dumps. With a tiny bit of network experience and simply taking a look at de D2OL config files you should be able to come up with things like this yourself.Quote:

I've totally had it with this discussion. I came here just to point out you guys could not take for granted Team_Gaol had no reserves because some stats-poster said he thought so. I came here te prevent people like you from screaming gaol would be cheating when they would do a dump in the next month or so 'because their buffers were already empty'.
You think their cheating? Thats your choice. This was not meant to be a discussion whether they are cheating or not. I'm not with them so I can't tell. I tried to point out you were jumping to conclusions way to early. Since you just proved me right on those points, for me the discussion is over.

About our FAQ: Our FAQ has never contained a way to cheat and will never contain a way to do this. Whoever is claiming there used to be a 4th way to save up Cands or a 4th step, is lying. The FAQ hasn't been edited since 24th of december last year, you can find some proof of this here and here (original file on previous server). Furthermore, the way to save up Cands that you're talking about clearly warns people about using this way of saving up Cands because we hadn't been able to test it when the FAQ was written. Also someone that doesn't know how to cheat and wants to find out how, won't find the information he needs in our FAQ, only if you already know how to cheat you're able to tell that "3 out of 4 steps to cheat" are present in our FAQ.
About calling us "SICKOS": This is just a plain insult to our whole team, you're pointing a finger at the whole of Team Gäöl over one single member (out of 21, actually more because Robert T is a sub-team from TG) who might POSSIBLY be cheating, of which you don't have any proof (and if you do have proof, I like to see it, because just like you, we do not tolerate cheating in any way).
About our output: Of course we (including myself) had our own doubts about the output of this member, so we have asked him to provide us with information about what kind of CPU power he has access to: He works for a large company (known by me, as well as other leaders of TG) that has over 200 PCs running every day (I've added a little info on this on our specs page), more info can be found in the GoT D2OL DPCH of July 17th (dutch), info which 'conveniently' has not been translated back to this forum by your Belgium member (because he has his mind made up about us anyway).
Also I like to thank you all for trying to destroy something we of TG have been working hard for for almost 3 years now, this only out of jealousy and fear that you might not pass DPC as soon as you would have hoped to. Maybe you should think first before making such a claim and contact the people in question and ask for an explanation.
On the other hand, if you ever find proof that one of our members is cheating, I would like to ask you to provide me (my e-mail should be in my profile) with this info so we can take the necessary actions against this member. We will at least remove that person from our stats to discourage further cheating, followed by an e-mail to the D2OL staff, requesting to remove the nodeID(s) in question (and possibly other actions to get the Cands to be removed from the team total, if possible).

Ddan, I will say this only once, after this the cheating matter is over for all I care. I won't even care no more if someone does it right infront of my face.
First off, the info was NOT conventiently left aside from the GoT forum. (I still am a member there and daily visit it) If ytou search the competition section of Xs you'll see I've had a LOT of computer troubles teh last 2-3 days with my entire HDD corrupted (turned out to be a MBR gone bonkers.... unaible to recover -- > entire reinstall )
Then problems with my PSU which wasn't holding up under the weather we'd been getting here in belgium (and the netherlands for that. You got the weather also!)
while I was back on line for a partion via my mom's computer, she also needs that comp to work on for her work. So out of my normal say 4 hours a day I spenth behind my comp I only had half an hour a day of computertime....
Now if you want me to translate something that the people here can read, GLADLY
tell me what it say's there thats directly relevant to this discussion and I'll gladly translate it. i'll even mail it to you so you can check if I have translated it well enough and without Bias.
About the calling of "sicko" Yes it's a direct accusation, now read whats on GoT. I said it is repulsive to say the least if one would be cheating, thats playing with people's lives/health. Does that seem normal to you? I may have jumped the gun and this IS just a program, but what they where suspected (and still are suspected of by people here and on your own team (DPC)) of is just foul and in my eyes repulsive. Now thats that for the sicko part for me. I jumped the gun and called you sickos, I'm sorry.

What did we destroy? Really, give me proof of what we destroyed? I'm deadserius, tell me what we have destroyed? Don't worry we aren't jealous and we don't fear not passing you as soon as we want. Why? Our output is bigger then yours anyway and even if it takes a year or more to overtake you, we will. So we don't care if it takes longer, as long as we overtake you. Heck even if all of a sudden you guys pull away at a lightning speed, cudos to you, we like competition.
Btw we first of had a thread which question your team, then we had Syzzer or something come in here (as a DPC person) and talk some. Now he himselve said people of DPC distrust his output. But We will see soon enough won't we. Because as said on GoT once we get close he can't pull it off to use a cheat constantly because that would stand out to much. So don't worry we have time to see.

I'm not gonna try and deflect blame for what I said, but I did not start/bring up this idea. True after looking into some of the dumps which did seem weird (just weirdly done, after reading the original starters explenation) and the fact that people here started about a cheat beeing on your site + The fact that I found out what the cheat actually was (logical thinking.....)
I DID react emotionally/ intense. Why? My grandfather has just been diagnosed with lungcancer so to me,just the idea of someone cheating and disregarding the value of a drug/cure is revolting, repulsive and just makes me SICK.
And your rep.... True I must admit we will have dented your team's reputation... But people easely forget.. something you don't seem to remember...
IF say me is foudn guilty of cheating today , but the day after tomorrow Xs takes Nr1 place despite me being banned and cands deleted, what will people remember? the fact that someone of Xs cheated, or that Xs is Nr1? (or in your case DPC)

Wow okay this is over no matter what happens with Team_Gaol or Robert T. you arent going to hold us forever. IM sorry the proof is in their dumps ..... I remember ICA_Cows doing a huge dump a few months back ..... it took them all day to get in their massive numbers of canidates around 200K if I do remember. No dump was on the hour was exactly the same ..... and all day there was up load of canidates. Such is the out put of all massive producers ! Our DDtung does 10K a day reliably ! Does he do 1,000 then all the sudden one update does 9,000 no ..... Its spread out ... all day. Robert T. followed a precise pattern of 2 15,000 dumps one hour twice a day and then 5,000 another hour....... the whole week this was the pattern ! Even with 200 buffered machines this would be hard to do and why the pattern?
Other Teams have reached out to me via private messages agreeing with me! The one thing we do agree with is why isnt gaol / robert T. crunching FAD? The project DPC is currently "stampeding" ! We all agree its because you can't cheat in FAD, but you can in D2ol.
Im sorry, but I think you guys should investigat Gaol since we would call out our own team members if output look so strange like this. It does look fishy you obviousily admit that..... I sincerly hope DPC has the class and integrity to investigate Robert T.
