P4GPL-X + Dothan OC problems

Hi...

I have got a P4GPL-X + 1.6Ghz Dothan and I only want to have FSB225, but it is impossible :(

Hardware:
P-M 730 SL85G @stock cooler
P4GPL-X without Mods
2x SATA HDD
X700PRO PCIe
2x512MB Twinmos BH5

Max. stable FSB with PCIe @ 100 is 215 !
216 MHz = Freeze or Reboot after ~1-5h (while gaming Doom3)
220 MHz = very, very unstable and freeze in BIOS or post screen
225 MHz = NO BOOT

PCIe @ 105 Mhz:
225 MHz = NO BOOT

wtf???

Yes - ram @5:4 and all voltages @max (not CPU ;) but it is enough too )

max. FSB is still at 215 Mhz... :(

At this point IMHO you should try another video card...
Maybe this mobo (first time I heard of this model :confused: ) has an issue in the agp lock.

last time i tried:
pcie 120 MHz -> sata not found
pcie 115 Mhz -> sata found, but 220 Mhz fsb is still not stable

fsb 215 works rockstable again

What FSB is set in the CT 479? I get better fsb with jumpers in fsb400 than fsb533. If already tried, go try another memory and good luck... :stick:

try using this formula to calculate the necessary pcie frequency:

pcie x 2.2 = fsb

so if you want an fsb of ~225 mhz you should try somewhere around 102 mhz pcie
- maybe try 100-104 mhz, whatever works (best)

I'll say the P4GD1 to. it is based on the 915P that overclocks better than the Intel 915PL chipset.

and if you will use a booster on a P4GPL-X you will loose your Dual channel since it only has 2 DDR dimms.

I don't use any tweaks, if you want to reach an high fsb, you only have to set the PCIe frequency higher than 120 MHz.

For example:

PCIe = 123 --> 2,2*123 = 270
so you can get a fsb of 270 MHz, if you use a pcie clock of 123 MHz.

The PCIe clock does only overloads the HDD ( if you use an IDE HDD on the Onboard Controller) and the Northbridge. If you consider the formula ( 2,2*PCIe = FSB), there is no problem with your graphic card. You can also select an higher PCIe clock, but it have to be higher than FSB/2,2.
With a Vchip at 1,6V you can reach a PCIe clock about 220 to 230 MHz. For Higher PCIe clocks, you have to do a Vchip mod to 1,9V.

I use a Promise PCI SATA RAID Controller with 4x WD 250 GB and Vchip at 1,6V, so i can reach a FSB of 290 with no problems.

P-M @ 3150 MHz + 7800 GTX @ stock

the 7800 GTX isn't the best performer at 3dmark 2001, a x850 XT PE should reach 40-42k easily.

i haven't tried a P4GD1, because i couldn't buy this board in germany. The P4GD1 has got the same layout as the P4GPL-X, but it has got 4 ram slots, so you can select the same settings, which i posted.

If you want to reach a high PCIe clock, you have to use a PCI Controller for your HDD's, otherwise the HDD's wouldn't give a signal, if the PCIe clock is higher than 110-113 MHz.

a cpu on a board that it wasn't ever designed to run on - thanks to an
adaptor (ct-479) - and then we might even be able to run 2 pci-e cards in sli-
mode on that same board - again not designed to run like that - using yet
another adaptor....
now that would be something. hail the adaptor-manufacturers... given the
muscle the dothans have already shown, we might see some very very good
stuff (scores) based on this - some day...soon...

Doesn't work....

All over FSB215 (215,5 real) is NOT stable.
ram async, more voltage..... all tried....

Should I get another PCI/PCIe clock with setting PCI to (e.g.) 104 or higher?

FSB215,5 PCIe100 -> PCIe 107,73 (clockgen)
FSB215,5 PCIe105 -> PCIe 107,73
FSB215,5 PCIe95 -> PCIe 107,73

OK.... I will try it now with IDE-HDD, PCI-raid-HDD and Jumper@400 instead of 533.

I have used onboard ICH6 PATA on the P4GD1 up to 138MHz PCI-E and 295MHz FSB. Used a Western Digital WD1200JB (120 GB). :)

There is also an PCI PATA RAID controller integrated on the P4GD1.

Look at key features. :)

Well seems Dothan on pci-e is looking better and better, my 730 is arriving on the 8th and adapter and board on the 11th, so I have three days for flashing bios 1006.001 XD

To get high FSB speeds FSB400 jumper is the way to go then?

PD:Wondering if a 750 would have been better due to higher multi. The 730 has 12 multi but which has 750? 13,5?

the 760 has 15x default, so i guess a 750 has 14x (14x133=1866, about right)
iirc intel doesn't offer .5x multipliers

So with this board you can change the cpu multiplier? The p4gd1 does not allow you to change the multiplier? What is the deal with that? He is running a 750 with a 12 multiplier.

And it does appear you can change multi with the P4GPL-X. Wish I could find that MB around here.

i had the same prob, with fsb 100 my cpu does 100 mhz more, i dont understand why.
