OCZ are willing to search out TCCD and label them as such so you know exactly what you are getting. Now, the price will be higher per module as the IC's are more expensive, and performance may not be any better than our high speed binned TCC5.
So my questions are.
Would you like to see a TCCD special part over high binned TCC5.
yes or no?
I've not had any experience with the TCC5, but I would buy the TCCD over the TCC5 so I voted yes.
Personally, I like to know what chips are on a stick to begin with. I know that the Heatspreaders are part of your marketing just like everyone else that uses them but I would like to see chip ID's on the labels.
Well OCZ does the testing, can you tell us if on avarage TCCD will overclock higher than TCC5? I'm sure you've done al lot of testing right?

I need to repeat myself here, the TCCD may NOT perform any better than the TCC5 high speed bin we have....you would be paying a premium for a name...nothing more.

I haven't used tcc5 but i do own some tccd and i know how well it performs. How much premium are we looking at exactly?

i haven't tried TCC5 yet so hard to say - but reading more probs with TCC5 in past but partly due to more aggressively binned TCC5 ?

You should label every stick you own with the IC's that they have.
Rather you could put a code on the corner of the PCB that overclockers can correspond with a database on your website or something... kind of like the BP pcb code, but for the IC.
I dont think that TCC5 is bad, it can do just as good as TCCD or better. It would be nice though to know what you are getting.

I speak for myself. When I bought my OCZ Plat rev2 sticks, they cost me almost 300 EUR. There were other cheaper alternatives in the TCCD field, like Patriot XBLK priced around 250-260 EUR (I can't remeber precisely).
I went for the OCZ because the information I collected favoured the OCZ sticks.
Now imagine that at that time, you put me TCC5 stuff priced at say 250 EUR, side by side with the Plat rev2 TCCD. With little information about TCC5 and/or information about some weak results, I would not hesitate to pay 50 EUR (60 USD) more by the well known TCCD.
I look at TCCD as a safe bet (as safe as it can be, of course) and TCC5 more lika a shot in the dark, due to the different amount of results backin each type of memory. I would be willing to pay more than 20 USD more to be on the safe side.
If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

Honestly, this method is too weak to keep secret from OCZ's competitors, but alot more effective to keep it secret from customers. To keep secret from competitors, the OCZ must use blank IC's.

TCCD and TCC5 are basically the same. We have not seen much difference either. With the recent press release by the "dark side" aka evil empire, i think it is a marketing ploy. Look will you pay $197 for a 1gig dual kits of tccd vs $149 for a dual kit of tcc5 that performs the same??

It’s a hard call, sometimes the emotional bonding to historical experience of the “elders” is a strong pull. Sometimes the “Traditions” are worth hanging onto, often times new traditions are better.
I’m new to all of this, but do find myself reading and going, hmmm, wonder if I should try and find some old used BH6 – the elders swear by it. But would it actually be better than my vx? Don’t know.
I am to the point that I would like to try some of the other side of the spectrum, and I ask my self – elders – start looking for TCCD or believe what OCZ is telling me and go TCC5.
Well I may be foolish, but I’ve found those OCZ guys to be very straight forward … and I believe them. I’d buy their TCC5. But like any OC’er If they had both, and binned both, and the TCCD actually binned higher, sure I buy the highest binned mem I could get.
So, what is it, Traditions of the Fathers (TCCD really faster better) – or just that, Traditions of the Fathers (emotional).

Well, to say the truth, I would simply like ram bined at high speeds, and the chips its using is secondary. If it can do DDR600 2.5-3-3-6 I don't really care what chips are under the platinum heatspreader :)
I voted yes, as so far it seems that TCCD is doing slightly better, and they would undoubtebly sell :) However, those who already have TCCD probably will not upgrade, as DDR1 slowly bu surely is saying goodbye to us all :)

tccd might be too test intensive on the fab level for samsung and at the end costs them a lot more money. tcc5 is rated lower maybe because it doesnt need the extensive stringent testing on samsungs part.

You guys are dealing with a pretty widespread perception that there's a difference between the TCCD and TCC5 -- even if there's no actual performance difference. If you can cater to the market desire for the D chips and still make a profit, go ahead and do so. IMO, as long as you guys are differentiating the two parts based on the chips and not claiming a performance difference where none exists, there's nothing misleading about making a distinction.

I would pay extra for the known TCCD BTW. FOr no logical reason, just because i'm more familiar with it than TCC5. I think a LOT of consumers would do that too, and that it would be a good idea for you guys to make a line with it. Prolly make you a few extra $$.

Samsung makes a number of TCxx chips, with the xx simply being the tested speed grade (the T is for TSOP II packaging and the C for commercial temp range) of the individual chips. If a DIMM manufacturer speed bins the chips themselves, it makes no difference what they use to get there - the only affect is on their bin distribrution.
Would I personally pay more just because it says "TCCD" on the chips... NO WAY!!. Would I personally pay more because the DIMMs are binned to run 1T 2.5-3-3-6 @ 300Mhz+ in 2x512 config with interleave enabled...DEFINITELY.

Definatly. My mushkin stuff does DDR600 for ~40ish minutes error free (stopped it) but my memory controller cant keep windows stable.. Its either TCCD, or TCC5. Either way, it should all perform well. $20 is better spent binning 20 more IC's than paying for a label as emc2 said. :)Quote:

It would seem a bit odd for OCZ to market a TCCD specific product after assuring everyone there is little to no difference with TCC5. If OCZ goes forward with a TCCD specific product knowing they are marketing a product only to address a unsubstanciated perception by some of their customers ... that would strike me as a little silly. So of sourse I'm voting yes, because I'm in favor of all things silly. :p:

I voted no. The new TCCD just isn't the same stuff that everyone thinks it is. Not only that, but TCC5 binned by OCZ will run just as well as the TCCD binned in the same category by OCZ, just the TCC5 will cost less.

If OCZ can find some TCCD like this, the price difference is more than fair. I haven't seen any TCC5 achieving this kind of result (unfortunately I can't test the 2.5-4-3 max because my DFI craps out at 315fsb).
But as someone has said, newer TCCD may not be as god as the old one (which curiously is still out there for sale) and in the end perform like TCC5.

So if you only get the good TCC5 ic's , why pay more for TCCD?
