Hey guys, I've been trying to get 4x512mb of G.Skill GH stable and haven't had much success. It runs fine at 200mhz but I can't get it over 220mhz without getting a ton of errors.
Just wondering if anyone can post some info on there stable Tref and drive strengths in bios. I'm using 618-2 right now on DFI NF4.

wont even boot with 1t even at 200htt
Its either the Tref or drive strength I'm sure, it just takes so long to test with 2g !!! lol

what is your target memclock? how high can you hit with only 2x512mb? and how much vdimm are you willing to put through them? post your timing table and I'll help you tweak them. ;)
target is 250-260mhz, but I'd be happy with anything at this point !! lolQuote:

Not sure what drive strength to use, I've been playing with TCCD for so long that I'm not sure about UTT. Also tref is default right now, not sure which way to go with it.
Both JNav and Dumo have been playing 2GB UUT lately... they should be able to help ;)
Here's the key, you'll need to find out the limitation of all your sticks first, I'd use memtest to do that, crank up your memclock to 255~260 and only use 3.1v, put it in orange dimm slot 2, purpose is to see how quick they error out, 5 passes on test#5 should do it, if not then run 10 passes, mark each stick and write down the numbers (passes and error). Let's say this is the results you get:
stick1: 5 passes 6 error (fast stick)
stick2: 5 passes zero error (fastest stick)
stick3: 5 passes 100 error (slowest stick)
stick4: 5 passes 50 error (slow stick)
Now, you have to install them in this order(VERY IMPORTANT):
Yellow dimm slot 1: stick 2 (fastest stick in dimm further away from cpu)
Orange dimm slot 2: stick 1 (fast stick)
Yellow dimm slot 3: stick 3 (slowest stick)
Orange dimm slot 4: stick 4 (slow stick in dimm closest to cpu)
use bios 618-2, 510-2, or 316, 1T is not possible so you have to use 2T, let's target 250 first:
vdimm: for 250 you shoudn't need more than 3.3v, try 3.2v first.
HT Ratio: 4
Chipset: 1.6v
LDT: 1.5v
Trfc: 15~17
Tras: 6
Tref: 3072, or 1032
Trp: 2
Twr: 2
Twtr: 2
Trtw: 3
Read Write Queue Bypass: leave it at 8x
Bypass Max: leave it at 4x
Bank Interleave: enable
DQS Skew: increase
Max Async Latency: 7~8
Read Preamble: 5ns
Idle Cycle Limit: 16 clks
Dynamic Counter: enable
Drive strength: leave it at 8
Data strength: leave it at 4 for 316 bios, and 3 for 510-2 or 618-2
If you can pass memtest #5 with 30 passes without error, load up your windows and run superpi 32m or prime95 Large FFTs, if they passed, then you can start cranking up your HTT, or tighten up the timing. Leave the drive and dram strength at 8:4(3) and play with Trfc, Trtw, Max Asynch Latency, and Read Preambe IF instability shall occur. And leave cranking up the vdimm as a last resort, though I've found that these UTT are linear, my Redline will need 0.1~0.15v bump for every 5~6mhz increased.
I hate using Auto on any timing table, they sucks! make sure you have a 80~90mm fan blowing on top of them, 4 sticks packing together can generate quite a bit more heat. :D let me know how it goes, :toast:
by the way, with 4x512MB Mushkin Redline I was hitting a rock stable 266 @2-2-2-6 with only 3.5v... ;) here

I've pulled 2 sticks out for now, too late tonight to mess with it anymore but I will try what you have suggested ben805 tomorrow.
Running with 2 sticks in orange dimms and everything on auto (hehe) I have no problem running at 260 but its taking 3.6v ! lol
I'll try each stick idiviually tomorrow and see what happens

Im using UTT-CH 4x512M, Twinmos TMII sticks. 250Mhz x11 3.2Vdimm
Specs are: 200, enable, 2.0,2,8,2,8,16,3,2,2,3,1560,1,
enable,auto,0,auto,auto,auto,fast,auto,256,enable, x16,x7,Disable
Any 2 of my sticks will do 260Mhz 1T 3.2Vdimm, the 4 do 250Mhz 2T.
The G.Skill are UTT BH-5 IMO
Tested both sets (not individually yet) and both do 260mhz at the same voltage in both the yellow and orange dimm's. So I'm not sure why I can't get them stable with all 4 at the same time. Memory controller ? PSU 5v Rail ?
Did anyone have to change any timings or values to run 4x vs 2x sticks ?
4 sticks is a different ballgame and as I stated before....you need to find out the limitation of every single stick first then put them in the dimm slot as I'd suggested, otherwise you'd be pulling your hair out trying to figure this thing out forever, again...the ram placement play a major role, if you'd misplaced them...you can pretty much forget about running 250 :lol: You can't use x2 timing for x4 setup either.

I think its my PSU's 5v line, when I up the volts to 3.5v or more with 4 sticks the comp freezes during boot or during memtest.
Might try the TCCD thing, but for now I'm running 4x512mb UTT using divider.
OC is at 2.9ghz and running the ram at 207mhz.
OS is very smooth with 2gig and my OC is the same as before so I'm pretty content with it like this anyway.
I've got a PC Power and Cooling 510w that I'm going to use in my game rig that I'll try tomorrow and see if it helps.

Like I said, I dont need more than 3.2Vdimm to get the job done...even with 4x sticks.
Go back to basics. Set to 2T, and set to 180Mhz FSB 1:1. Then see how it is, and raise FSB and fiddle with timings till you get where you want to be. It does take time.

Sorry for this bunch of question, but I plan to run 4x512 TCCD and I'm right now testing each stick individually to optimize its placement.

running off the 5v rail causes sever errors with my ram using the Enermax PSU. I hooked up my PCP&C 510 and the errors went away.
BTW, decoding DVD using 2gig of ram is 3X faster now ! what use to take 12-15 min now takes less than 5min !

I tested many different placement so it came from my own observations as I found it is the best overall performance and stability, and no it wasn't a typo....that's the exact placement I use for UTT 4x512MB to hit 266 @2-2-2-6 2T and I lost only around 40seconds in SuperPI 32M compared to 2x512MB 1T :D :D If I had TCCD then I'll be using the exact same placement.Quote:

that is correct....the closer to the cpu the stronger the slot, that's why I put the weak ram in the stronger slots to match up with the fast ram, if you were to put them the other way around....then the fast ram get faster, the weak one get weaker....and what do you get when pair them together in orange and yellow slots at 4x512MB? sucky memclock :lol: try it yourself. ;)Quote:

Maybe this applies to UTT, since yellow slots are more suited to this kind of memory, and not to TCCD, but as you said, I have to try it.
nope, the strongest one indeed is orange dimm4....which is right next to the cpu, but if I were to put the slowest stick in there, then it would end up pairing up with the fast stick instead of the fastest stick, and it threw off the balance...which is why I match the slowest stick to the fastest on yellow slots, then match slow to fast on orange slots, and thus the slowest stick was in yellow dimm3 and slow stick in orange 4.Quote:

Now I got your point. But isn't the performance leveled by the worst module/slot combination? That is, a combination of the slowest module with the strong slot should give worse results compared to a combination of the slowest module with the stringest slot. In the first case the overclock should be limited to a lower level.Quote:

Using my G.Skill LE that tops out at 312, and my G.Skill LA that tops out at 320. I used the system that ben described. I didn't test my sticks individually but I had a head start on where to stick them, only had to play musical chairs with them twice before I hit the sweet spot ! lol
Got them running at 290mhz 2.5-4-3-6-2t ;)
