Dfi Ultra-D just fried my ocz gold VX!

Well the past few days I kept getting the memory dump blue screen all the time. today I couldnt even get it to turn on. I have the DFI Ultra-d mother board with 3-2 bios. and 2 512mb chips of PC3200 OCZ gold vx.

I went into bios and enabled memtest and nothing passed, it was just tens of thousands of errors over and over. If im not mistaking I read a thread on here about this motherboard being the BH5 killer?? Well here is another story, Also I have good cooling 6 fans, and I only had it at 3.2 volts. This system is less then 2 months old im pretty disapointed.

Besides that can someone tell me how does OCZ go about getting you new ram? I have already emailed them but considering its the weekend probably won't hear back until atleast monday..

actually 1 seems to be functional but since I bought them in a pair would I get a new pair or just one new module?

thanks, yeah I already wrote to their customer service Im leaning more twards the mobo at fault rather then the ram..

Yeah i same problem with my redline. I think my mobo has had it because the cold boot issue or ram issue is just getting ridiculus. Try putting in some other type of ram and run it for awhile and then throw back in your ocz vx , it might work then. Also trying moving to dimm 1 and booting and running it , it should work. if it doesnt try the the first thing i said

Here's what I would like OCZ and Mushkin reps tell us about UTT-based sticks:

When memory modules come back to the manufacturer (OCZ or Mushkin) as a result of RMA, what do they do with them next? Are they trying to investigate If they are really fubared and what exactly happened to them? Or they just go to trash...? If they look at them closer, then what are the conclusions? Also, what's up with that trend of one stick dying and the other working :confused:? (it happened to me on Neo2). I would suspect that they have some knowledgeable people there that can answer those questions :shrug:?

I would like to hear from either one of the manufacturers... Please.

I doubt they trash the modules. Probably replace the defective IC with another and back out they go

If that's even remotedly true, then I would DEFINETELY like to hear something from them... That's why I would like answers... What happens with those sticks once they hit RMA process. Do they get tested and looked very closely? After what we hear across the forums I would pull all engineers out from their beds at 2am to find the answers! :)

Don't panic to hard man.

OCZ is the best company around. I've delt w/ RMA w/ them b/f.

Ask for Sean..hell ask for any of them. They are awesome guys.

We should order them pizza and cookies w/ pink lemonade or soemthing.

Yea im running just my one module right now in their and checking all my drives for errors from all the random bsod.. Im thinking about in the future lower the voltage on ram to maybe 3v or 2.9 and lower clocks to cpu. I have been running 2700mhz on a venice 3000+ and I think I had to squeeze everything I could get out of that ram to get to that point so I will probably take it easy with my next pair.

I believe that you can usually hit 3.2v without doing so, so I would guess not.

Voltages between slots when running dual channel on the board differed greatly. I would suspect that as part of the reason only one stick dies in most cases.

Yes you can run 3.2v on the 3.3v rail but you can also get it with the 5v rail

Ask them to reprogram the module spd to 2-3-2 , so it can post when mobo initialize post @ 2.5V...

Its not going to affect performance, you can still change settings to 2-2-2 in bios after it post,. My Mushkin blue and Gskill GH seem to immune from cold boot problem. My redline, most of the time gave me 'plugNpull' headache :(

Yeah I know u can change it back but I've never seen a mobo boot at 2.5v on the vdimm. I've always seen then boot at 2.6.

Cold boot problem, yes mobo initialize @ 2.6V. Stick that can work @2.5V will be ok...

Ive said this earlyer but noone seems to listen it:

UTT chips have major problems with their SPD ics and over 3.4v constant feeding.The motherboards are just fine,dont blame on them,no matter what model,manufacturer.It happened to my with DFI NF3 sk754, GA-K8NSC and 2 of my friends have similar simptoms with their UTT modules in DFI NF4 boards.

Ive had like 10 pcs 512mb Twinmoss UTT (aa4t) and after aprox 2 weeks , 2x 1gb kits had the so well known "cold boot" issue.
These 2 kits were been 24h/7 at constant 3.4-3.45v,very well ventilated.

And im saing its the SPD as i accidentaly tried a "dead" UTT module in a SIS735 board and to my totaly surprise,it boot but only 256mb out of 512MB were seen in POST.

Did you install the memory on the DFI with the cord from the PSU unplugged and all power drained from the MB? I have not experienced dead ram from my DFI and i have the second shipment of em when they first came out.
