nice but the high power consumption is problamatic for many. 9k in 2005 with a good overclock isnt too shabby at all, this is higher than what many get in 2003!

It is extremely unlikely that nVidia will release a 32 pipe 110nm card.

nVidia's 110nm experience is good, so, if they are countering the R520 (remains to be seen) they would almost definitely release a card with higher core speeds. The refresh of G70 on 90nm will be when nVidia would release a 32-pipe card, but that wouldn't be until late this year at the earliest.

Actually, one single gpu alone was drawing 169W and two of them were drawing 291W ... without cpu, board, etc. - with all those and an FX-55 oced to 3ghz, that's 500W quite easily for the entire system. So on phase/dice/ln2 we should be seeing 600W - 700W requirement on these. On dual core plus dual gpus ... dont ask :D

It says that 1x7800GTX + OC scores 9K in '05 and that 2 of them in SLI + OC scores 13.xK in '05 :)

Dissapointed? I've gotten used to it. The launches of Geforce 5800Ultra, DDR2, Prescott, the s775 / i9x5 platforms and many many other things have been forecast to be very very powerful and to shift the balance between Intel/AMD or nVidia/ATi, but have all failed to do so.

The 7800GTX may not beat the crap out of Macci's Xtreme X850-LN2-benching, but rest assured, if the 7800-cards can reach the X850-Phasechange-performance-level by simple oneslot air cooling, what can it not do under similar cooling?

Then we haven't really seen any gaming performance or how the 7800-series deals with serious large resolutions og antialiasing in games.

I, for one, remains optimistic, and i think that 7800Ultra will come and will be a very powerful card.

Is the power consumption just the card or the whole system? 169w= 14a on +12v and 291w= 24a i cant imagine just the cards using that much power.

Hey is it just me or did anyone notice that it's being tested with an AMD64 FX-57??

Not bad scores by the way... Maybe gain a bit more with more mature drivers...

Some more info on the rest of the system specs would be nice...

BTW, nVidia do know how to make a darn big PCB don't they??

How is it possible for a card that can draw a maximum of 75W through the MB and another 75W through the 6-pin draw 169W total?

Is nVidia out of spec with the PCI-sig, or are the Watts given the system draw instead?

It's the latter. Look at the pics: the systems power cord is plugged into the meter. It is 169W at idle, and 291W at load.

Does anyone else think that at this rate, Nvidia are going to turn into intel with a "bigger is better" attitude?
Every card that comes out is hotter, drains more power and has a larger PCB. They cant do this forever, something has got to give at some point.
I want to know what the temps are for those cards, and now i want to see what ATI are going to bring to the party.

Yeah, it's in some other thread in the GFX cards section. And that mwave site, that is crazy overpriced right there, btw, it's not discontinued. It's in stock, I checked it in the other thread that I was talking about (they had both links) and it was in stock, and it's still in stock when I checked it right now. Seeing prices like this makes me think that the 6800 Ultra is actually nicely priced :eek:
