Xtreme Geforce 6200 competition ???

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone is interested in this. Cards are very cheap and have a chance of allmost 100% to unlock to 8 pipes (Geforce 6600). I will be looking out for the cheapest 6200 (non turbo-cache) with a molex and give you the prices.

I think there will be 4 categories:

1.) Water/aircooling 4 pipelines
2.) Xtreme cooling 4 pipelines
3.) Water/aircooling 8 pipelines
4.) Xtreme cooling 8 pipelines

Xtreme cooling is anything from pelts and PC-cooling to dry ice. Cascade, auto-cascade and LN2 will not be able to compete unless it is very well recieved by many people so I can make an extra category. This is because LN2 and cascades are very hard to get for most people. Dry ice, pelts and singlestages should by fairly easy to obtain.

Benchmarks need to be very gpu dependant so 3dmark03 and 3dmark05 seem good to me. Final score will be something like 1*03 + 2*05 = total score
LN2, auto-cascades and cascades to cool the cpu are again not allowed. Any other cooling is allowed in all categories.

Anyone can compete in as much categories as he wants but you can only win one reward wich yoy can choose yourself. This is because else someone with a very lucky card will win everything.

Rewards and sponsors are not yet dicided. Maybe I can check if every card is unlockable to 8 pipes. I try to get some big rewards but if no store wants to give much away for free, everyone has to contribute some money ($10 ?) to buy some nice rewards. Cards will be bought at 1 store if it wants to sponsor us.

Just post in this thread if you're interested and give me some suggestions on benchmarks and maybe other cards to compete.

I was looking at the evga too. You think the extra ram is worth it?

64 bit don't unlock all 8 mine won't do it :(

I think the best card for this competition would be the Geforce 6200 128mb (128-bit). I'm now looking for a nice (cheap) one with a molex but all the webstores mix up the specs of the card :( so it takes a bit longer.

I'm game if you find some good priced moddable cards :)

Do this like the xaber 200 or whatever competetion we had a while ago? I'm game :D All the cards should be bought from the same place in the same order to keep as level a playing field as possible. Any cooling better than water should have to be DIY, vmods allowed, kill the card and you're out. Sounds fun!

That's a NV44a. Not moddable to 8 pipes for sure, also 64bit mem interface instead of 128bit. Look for cards with the heatsink and a bridge heatsink on a diagonal, like the one DisposableTeen linked.

i agree...use the xabre template for the competition. someone with enough motivation should look for someone who can handle a bulk order of the vid card for everyone in the competition. that way, the stock cards are generally as equal as you are gonna get. then from there have different categories, like air cooling, water cooling etc. and have the cpu's set at a certain frequency, but they will have to be categorixed as well into, say, axp, 754 a64, 939 a64. 478 p4, 775 p4, etc...

The catagories there is the problem. If we have a seperate class for every type of CPU everyone will win because there will be about 2 people per class. A64/pentium M as one class and P4 as the other class. Have 3 clock ranges or go by cooling.

this isnt about prizs but fun, so it doesnt really matter if there are only few people in one category imo :)

you should make a final theread once you got enough feedback and enough people that want to join and decided what categories to go for and what the rules will be :)

So what do you guys think about the categories now? Braking up different types of cpu's doesn't seem necessary since both 3dmark03 and 3dmark05 are very gpu dependant.

Does everyone agrees with the 128mb 128-bit molex card? We can also choose the TC (turbocache) version because it's cheap but it will put more stress on the system (primarily RAM) so the people with TCCD will have an edge over the others.

And what do you guys think about checking the card for working pipes? Maybe a bit of luck involved is only nice I think ;)

Can someone make a poll? Because I can't. I mean about different categories, graphicscard type (maximum price), if people are willing to pay some extra for buying the rewards, etcetera, etcetera.

better than what im running over here. Maybe ill get some water loving going this summer. I might have to to keep this summer heat at bay.

Yep, some have to pay a little more and maybe have a 0-5% decrease in performance, I can do nothing about that. Making different categories for both AGP and PCI-Express seems unreasonable. The only thing we have to make sure is that every card has a molex and the same memory and core, that's all.

Well, the cheapest 6600 I can get in the Netherlands is about 100 euro for both PCI-Express and AGP. I don't think any of these cards (6200 and 6600) come with molexes so the PCI-Express versions will have an edge when you overclock to xtremes (maximum power through PCI-Express is much higher than through AGP).

MMM, I'm realy thinking now. An X300 would be fun too, I heard they overclock xtremely well.

What do you guys think?

Please include in your next post the maximum amount of money you'd like to spend and if you use AGP or PCI-Express.

how is making two catagories unreasonable agp=8x pci-e=16x 16 is 2 times better than 8 so 16 has DOUBLE the bandwidth so ur data rate would be like so 16*100 = 1600mhz 8*66=528mhz ...c'mon tha's a little unfair 3.03 times the frequency even if agp boys took it upto 81mhz 81*8 is still only 648 which is still 2.4 times more frequency, not to mention different interfaces....i won't go on...

8X AGP is even overkill for a high-end card like the X850 XT PE, with that card there's only like 5% difference maximum in benchmarks between AGP 8X and AGP 4X :fact: . The 6200 can't utilize 8X AGP not even when unlocked to 8 pipes. Loads of reviews show the the X8** cards are even faster at AGP then at PCI-Express so what you say is not true for sure.

When we'd choose to go for the TC versions it's a hole lot different story since then the conection between the system memory and graphicscard needs to give a lot of bandwidth.

If its agp and i can come up with the funds then im game.

Running AGP, can probs stretch to ~ 55-60 GBP.

Need to give them a ring, but a local shop had a load of 64mb 9500NP's for sale, at 15 gbp each... Only of use for those running AGP, but its a much cheaper card... They are all L shaped mem too, so mod fine to 8 pipes....

Yep your right, I think $100 or more is just to much for a competion.

I like the 256mb evga, I wonder if newegg will give us a price break if we all go in together, and possibly a prize.

Also, maybe we should split it into intel/amd. Unfortunately, I'm intel right now (can't afford to go amd) and I know the AMD rigs will score better, so it doesn't seem level across the platforms. In other words, if the poor Intel people don't have to compete agains AMD'ers, the competition should get a lot more participators.

Maybe everyone could pick out their own card for under $100 and whoever has the best 3dmark score per dollar spent, wins.

Hmm, in DK a 6600 and 6200 are almost the same price, give or take 10 USD.

I'm thinking of getting an Asus 6200 128mb 128bit interface. Any news on how these seem to fare?

Was a little over $100 but I was able to unlock hidden pipes and it OCed very well. Stock 300/550 OCed 475/675. I recently put a waterblock on it and will have to rerun some benches. Two days ago I pulled a 28xx in 3dmark05. This card seems to be a very good clocker.

put ur core up i can get mine to 550 on a cool day and my ram too, my stock ram is 400 and stock core is 300

I ordered another Leadtek A6200 TD yesterday for my work computer (need to play BF2 :D ), unfortunetly AGP so no chance for SLI. Going to see how that card OC's and keep the best one at my house. So far I've got my core to 485, mem to 680 with all pipes unlocked. I'm curious to see if this next card will do as well.

After looking at all the 6200 configurations, it looks like there are so many that some may need to be eliminated. For instance, 64-bit cards will not be able to compete with 128 bit cards, etc.

It'd definitely have to be a competition among the 128-bit cards, either 128mb or 256mb.

I want to participate but to be honest, being 19 and not in a well paid job (soon to be an apprentice) I think a 6200 is too much money :p:

EDIT: I just noticed i posted a link which was the exact same card as the last comp, lol im too tired!

Anyways something like this would be better value and less annoying if the card were to get fried!

I have an Inno3D AGP 6200, without a molex connector. OCed to 500/640mhz with a 2.7Ghz A64, i get 7.7k in 3dmark03...8 pipes open of course. Still raising the clocks...so i reckon i can hit 8k on '03, and 21k on '01. :)

Although if everyone else buys one with a molex connector added, ill be sunk lol. Inno3D make the chespest cards...and they are in good supply, at least in the UK, so maybe a good option for people to looking to buy one for a contest?

By the way, after these guys are unlocked, how much farther can they be pushed?

I have two of the Leadtek Winfast A6200 AGP card and both unlocked with no IQ problems. One overclocked from 300/550 to 485/685. My other one didn't fare as well and only did 430/680. Still not bad for a $100 card, I'm pleased with them. Just a CH away from 3000 in 3dmark05.

This may help you guys on a budget. In design it looks like one on the 128bit cards that can be unlocked. $76 with shipping. But dang they are sold out now. Can this one be unlocked?

That card looks almost identical to my 6200 cards and both of those unlocked. It really depends on the core. NV43 will unlock, NV44 do not have the extra pipes to unlock. I think thats the way it is.

You can tell if its nv43 or nv44 by the memory interface. 128 bit is 43, 64 bit is 44. Still, you can't tell if the nv43 core is rev A4, which is also unlockable AFAIK.

maybe have cooling classes.......but cpu classes with this slow of video card doesnt make sense.

Count me in for this one but I like the 6200 thing :p: If I can unlock it I'll have a nice 6600 to play with, if I can't I'll just break it :p: but the problem is 128MB ram cards aren't cheap enough to do it (although they are 60 euros here in belgium, a MSI card

once My exams are over I'll look into this and if no one wants to take this up I'll start this competition again after the D2OL competition we have comming up is done :)

how bout PCI vid cards? no more probs with AGP or PCI-E, and they should be really cheep

what about that new s3 card when it comes out? supposedly that's around a 6600gt and will be around or less than $100. Plus it's clocked at 700mhz so we'd see high numbers.

The newer revisions of the GPU are not unlockable. Be careful that you may get one. I was lucky enough to get an unlockable version back in Feb/March and unclocked and unlocked it was almost as good as a stock 6600GT!
