Really hard to follow but from what I gather it's an X2 vs an 840ee. (so 2 core vs 2 phys 2 virt cores). AMD's winning 3 of the 4 concurrent tests. Intel's winning video encoding because the AMD apparently has it set to lower priority than everything else. But most amusingly... the 840ee has crashed at least twice (the temp chart makes it look more like three times, since it's crashed right now). I can't find much info about it, but Id say it's a decent bet that it's temp and/or power related.

Looking at the intel webcam the systems is gone, must be being repaired :)

Lol, it'd be hilarious if the cpu burnt itself up or the draw fried the mobo and they are trying to replace it.

when both systems were online i recall the power consumption was around 800Watts.. now with the AMD rig only it's ~350W... this means 450W for the intel rig :O

Nah I'd just say it's the same sh*t when they'd set encoding to real time on single core AMD's and then start a game at low priority and get 4fps. Since AMD only has two cores (real or virtual) I'm actually surprised it's handling three intensive apps so well. I'd have expected it to be floundering on two of the four.

it has been rebooted more times than shown. they were fiddling with bios as mentioned earlier in thread. then got to windows for a bit. now showing a pic of bios yet again but reboot times still at 2....

by reboots they count, they ONLY count the reboots that occur AFTER a system crash. thats why the count hasnt gone up.

The whole test seems rather strange. The DivX encoding seems wierd for AMD and AMDs powersupply seems to be damaged as the voltages are REALLY low, but it seems to be holding up very good anyway. The intel system has had MANY more reboots, but it isnt registered? :confused:

Hey wtf I just noticed something. For dual channel ram don't you have to put ram in slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 in order to run dual channel mode? The intel has it in 1 and 3 as shown here http://www.tomshardware.com/stresstest/intel.html but the amd one has it in 1 and 2 as shown here http://www.tomshardware.com/stresstest/amd.html Doesnt that mean they are killing the Amds bandwidth? Or have I missed the part where amd works dual channel with ram in any slot??

Nope, it's installed properly. As long as modules are installed in DIMM slots of the same color - it's Dual Channel ;)

I've always felt Tom's was pretty fair and unbiased regarding AMD and Intel, for that matter Nvidia and ATI too.

So.. they are running 4 apps at the same time? But.. the 4800+ is only dual core.. while the 840 EE is dual core and has Hyper threading.... To me it sounds like this test was set up biased towards intel to begin with...

It's just like comparing a single core A64 vs a P4 with HT running 2 threads of something.

I don't think the A64 likes this test, and who will ever run 4 cpu demanding tasks at the same time? How about they just run farcry and Divx only.. see who wins DivX then!

better they show amd dual core is far better than intel dual core even with 4 intensive cpu usage programs

its from when it first started, it was a reboot and it got counted for both, ive been watching since the beggining.

oh ok. gotcha.. i thought it was pretty wierd especially when i looked at the readouts and they all looked good with no hitchesl ike the intel rig.

Well I don't really think it matters that the intel rig is a bit faster at the decoding, with all the crashed i'm sure the amd has caught up. I rather have a 1% slower system then a intelcrashalot system.

Why is the Intel 24 hour overview showing an entirely different time frame from the AMD one? ( I see 1 - 7 AM for AMD and 5 - 11pm for Intel at this point in time)? With the AMD one seemingly correct going by German time zone.
Also the one week overview for Intel has no temperature measurement whereas the AMD one has a clear red line starting 3rd June?
The other thing the camshot of the Intel at the moment seems to shows the fan over the cpu as stationery suggesting the system is down? Could just be the way I am looking at the picture though.

Seems like X2 is the right choise! It doesn't take any notice of the somewhat unstable power suply, and 91 hours and counting :) Would be a nice little thing to have ;)

well the intel system went down again.. it seems we are now on the THIRD mobo for the intel system and its NOT running SLI anymore(EDIT: when i first looked they only had one vid card installed. they got two now) ... how sad.. this cpu has gone through 2 mobos in about 4 days.. great track record..

and still. the amd system has NOT crashed a single time.. imagine that.

I can't understand why they swapped out the mainbord to a Asus, this totally voids the test and therefor cannot be taken seriously.

It's almost impossible to compare a AMD to a Intel because there are a lot more components and factors that make up the stability of the system, the CPU is just one of them. And it works as a chain, all components and factors have to be ok or else the system will be unstable.

First major error here was using gigabyte crappy boards.

I would like to know what happened. temps on P4 were skyhigh.. things like 71°C

You know what is REALLY sad ?

The corporate stiffs at Intel are all in there late 50's and only learned how to use their computers to email when accounting cut the budget on US postage stamps. Looks almost like they're reading this thread...but they dont' shed any light on why the SECOND intel mobo was replaced.

Basically they say, sure the intel rig crashed a bajillion times coincidentally right around 70*C reading every time, but that's gigabyte's fault.

I do like how they try to blame AMD for farcry timedemo having a set limit of 1000 runs though.


I wonder how long it takes before they finally cave, upgrade the cooling on the intel and admit it runs hot as donkey s***.

really, i dun think the mobo matters anymore thorry, due to the fact that intel is crashing on both the mobos, and the intell is still on its first, obviously it compares stability just fine, intell cant handle being turned on, and likes to be off alot, while the amd enjoys cruising along at full blast, and never turning off

looks like it. This test means nothing now. One of the systems continues to fail while other does well. So what do they do? Cripple the one that works and start over to hopefully give the failing one more chances. If they keep the counters reset and keep configs the way they are now all credability is gone in my opinion.

they still have asus. apparently the intel produces so much heat that more than one graphics cards added heat might kill it. either way its stupid now.

hmmm... if you examine the pictures... I think the nb chip location on the Gigabyte's mobo was kinda wrong/bad... too close to the CPU (and it gets closer with the HSF mounted). Hence, with the CPU's running hot, that's why the chipset cooler wasn't good enough (the CPU HSF is more taller, and it makes the airflow very2 bad, this caused the nb HSF are getting hot air from the cpu HSF)... and it gets hotter because it's nb is already running very hot (according to THG analysis).

ima have to disagree, cuz its about the same distance on the asus also, i think its cuz of the lack of fans

I'm almost sure that the current Intel Mobo is an Asus P5Wd2 Premium with Intel 955. The first Asus Intel board (second in test) was Asus P5ND2-SLI NF4 intel edition for sure. I remember it by the cool maroon heatsink.
