Can someone with an FX55 (preferrably 90nM) run a sPi 1M @ 11 x 273 with TCCD, 2.5-3-3-7 Winxp, only tweak=priority.
Trying to get a feel for how the Dothan power stacks up to AMD's finest silicon.

I was getting REALLY bad contact (corner of CPU) but saw about 3200mHz, -39C in MBM5 one sec, +3C the next... will have to figure out a good way to mount the darn evap ;)
It's about 2 seconds faster than my 4000+ SD at the same speed...

eh i dono, yea its faster... dothon is also currently limited to 32-bit... alot of factors can play in this besides just cpu, such as motherboards, psu's, etc...
imho the dothons was bred for gaming and benching, anything out side of that its helpless
but im impressed by the current dothons, just hope they take over the Pentium line and save Intel's rear from A64, AMD needs to see some competition, lol...

Bottleneck will be the P4's Netburst bus - it always has been and continues to be even with the new 955 chipset and 1066Mhz support.
Dothan with Intergrated mem controller will be unbeatable.
Thumbs up for Dothan. That is insane Charlie! I think Intel need to look closely at this Dothan and give AMD a serious butt kicking on the Desktop gaming arena.
I have been canvassing for a 1066MHz hypertransport bus with an ondie DDR2 memory controller on Dothan. That will be a killer chip. But Intel seems complacant and okay with what they get from Dell.
Charlie can you please run 32-bit sciencemark 2.0 at say 2805MHz(255*11) at 2.5-3-3-6. I will like to compare it with my A64 SD.

This reminds me of when A64 first came out, and Intel lost EVERY major benchie, 3D, Pi, etc, etc... and the Intel defenders would pop up and say "How about Video Encoding", or some other irrelevant measure, lol... the tables have turned and now people say, "Well how about 64 bit support and how well does it unzip files and display .pdf's"???Quote:

It gives reason to think when a cheap setup with cheap and seemingly outdated parts beats the best there is. If Intel got down to work they could deliver some heavy fire-power.
A $280 setup beat a CPU which costs three times as much alone. Quite interesting :)
there is only 1 big problem! no perfect (dfi nf-4 is perfect :oscar: :D) motherbord for dothan... its so hard to chose asus board for ct-479 :mad: i will risk and buy p4gd1 only because pci-e :rolleyes:

Dothan gets dominated by a 512 cache budget chip. Sure if you're into cyber olympics, 1M 2M and 3dmark01 only, go buy a dothan but I have a feeling 99.9% use thier computer for more than just siperpi 1M 2M and 3dmark01, which A64 still reigns supreme...

the dothan can reach 3004mHz on water, lol... my cascade wasn't making good contact and had terrible temps. And most good new FX55's can bench at 2900mHz++ on AIR.Quote:

Interesting comparison of the SD and Dothan if you look at the details the SD was ahead to past loop 11 then the Dothan pulled ahead.

Dothan certainly does seem to favour Superpi, as do most Intel, how does it get along in pifast at 2600 though as well ?

Zebo, regadless of "how usefull a Dothan is", it does not alter the fact that a Dothan setup at a third of a FX's CPU price beats the FX.
That alone is a feat, even if the CPU in your mind is not the best thing since sliced bread. I have to agree with Charlie on this one, a dothan is quite a spectacular CPU, especially, though not necesarily in regards to its price/performance ratio :toast:
Frankly, I've known dothan walks all over everything in Spi. (Hell even Netburst chips beat FX in Spi). I don't care about Spi. Make us another thread for gaming performance Charlie. That's the numbers I want to see. Or do you not have an FX you can use right now?
Incidentally, anyone want me to SPI dothan 715 @ 167 vs Venice 3200+ @ (I'm hoping for at least 2900 sPi 1m-capable, 290x10 ram at 166setting (5:6) (241?) would be nice) when my DFI gets here tomorrow? Might not be able to bench the A64 for a few days. I still haven't had a chance to RMA my UTT (Set came with one stick getting errors @ stock in Memtest). I'll also Spi my 730 at it's best clocks when it arrives. (replacing the 715 with it.)

Its all good shame Dothan performance is "wierd" to say the least, while it "rocks" in SuperPI and 3dmark...take a look at the rest and most important real world apps

My real world apps are games, photoshop, firefox, windows media player, nero, ms office mainly... Dothan does alright in them.
The price too is a real benefit.
Really you can only compare a Dothan to an FX not a normal venice or winnie...
My Dothan is down to 23.8s superPi 1M @ 3106mHz...
That's NEARLY the same as MEMESAMA's OLD 1M WR with a P4 EE @ 5.5gHz

I would say that for air FX-55 would probably have the edge 2600v2900 , but as Juliette says Dothan walks all over FX-55 for bang per buck :)
K|ngp|n is putting up some good numbers in futuremark at present so it will be interesting to see if it will topple Fx-55 to get to the top.
I really must get off my lazy a__e and get one of thses for my gaming rig to replace my P4 northwood.

Personally I am alittle suprised people are jumping onto the Dothan Bandwagon so fast.
Okay I know that the serious XS's out there are always looking at the cutting edge and have lots resources to spend but for the more average Joe, even those with money to burn should definately go the A64 route.
Right now the package as a 'whole' the A64 wins out.
The time really isn't right for Dothan. Don't get me wrong, when Intel ditch Netburst and move onto the Dothan successor for the desktop AMD had really better watch out. I really can't imagine how a Dothan with strengthened IPC (all the weaknesses tweaked out) would perform. If Intel wanted to it could make 2.8-3.0 ghz Dothan's as they are with proper heatspreaders at stock with an ordinary stock cooler and it would kickass. With the tweaks, 65nm tech, 800+FSB and unlocked lower multi's it would absolutely Monster/rape/destroy any FX. It would be easier to overclock consume heaps less power and run cooler to boot.
Maybe it would also receive some HT (is HT useful on Dothan I wonder?) for even better performance. I really can't see anything based on K8 competing even with 65nm tech.
But until then A64 is the better overall bet for all but the most Xtreme with money and time to burn. The newer dual cores based on Dothan look more promising and will bridge the gap alittle but still till Intel canvas an entire new system architecture A64 based will be the best bet. At that time this new processor may even recieve an onboard memory controller. AMD watch out!

Actually i865/i875 are the best chipsets EVER for Intel. The ONLY drawback for Dothan is the lack of a board offering "crossfire" capability...
Dothan will OWN single card 3D Mark until everyone is running dual r520's...
Let me reiterate, my 3106mHz Dothan running non-optimal 2.5-3-3 @ 273mHz runs 23.8s, faster than Memesama's old WR with P4EE at 5.5gHz, AND beats OPB's new FX55 at 3500mHz.
