Looks nice. 430MHz seems like an extremely modest core clock to me. I hope they have some other architectural improvements to make up for it.

Ram: 256MB ?? Nvidia may be trying to have this at a lower msrp than the R520...but price gouging will very fast defeat that purpose. 512MB should be the way to go for nex gen. But the increase in ram will mean more heat and it WILL be harder to clock it higher, meaning faster running ram is needed, 1.6ns is too slow.

Also, nV will most likely not have the Ultra with 32 Pipes...as it's a whole 8 pipes more. We should expect 16/20/24/28 pipeline configs if it doesnt have plans to go 32...and its a tad soon for that imo. nV will want to leave it for the 7900 series, and ATI will want to leave it for the X950 (R580) Series.

Well, I just noticed that card is even bigger than the 6800s. Also, I believe that the G80 may be the 7800Ultra or something similar and thhe 32 pipes will only be brought to arms to combat the r520.

I like to think that the G70 might have three math units, or one extra math unit that isn't dependent on the texture unit, and can be used at all times. Something to that effect. That would justify the relatively low core speed. Either way, I'm reeeaally curious about the G70's architecture.

With 1.6ns memory and reported memory bandwidth of 38.4GB/s, I wouldn't expect the clockspeed to be any higher than 1.2GHz, effectively 100MHz improvement over the 6800 Ultra, and the same as the Ultra Extreme Edition. To me it doesen't seems so impresive. They could well at least have better ram to it, not last gen speed.
But how can it draw 150W :confused: 8 pipes can't generate double the heat or?

We are so used to see that the next generation will double the performence/pipelines so we wait that all new generations will do it. :fact:
Now it would be intresting to see some benches :D

ye there could be trouble fitting that in a lot of cases. At least it's single slot cooling, that's something, i guess.

only 430mhz and 24 pipes seems a bit under what i'd expect. There must be some good stuff in there to make it beat ATI (like the architecture that makes a 350mhz 6800gt beat a 520mhz x800 xt)

if you ask the mfgs they claim its to keep their latest tech secret so their competition doesnt know about it, but ati always knows what nvidia is up to and vice versa, same with amd and intel... they know all the secrets long before they get posted on some forum or site on the net anways!

the second reason is mfgs trying to hide their starategy from the shareholders, if they change their plans or have to cancel a project they can do it before any of the shareholders even heard of the project, so nobody knows they cancelled a project and the shareholders think all is going perfectly well.

but then again, the big analsyt companies have such a high influcence on the manufacturers that the mfgs tell them all their secrets, and even if they dont they are very good at finding out all the details anyways. so the analysts know about all the secrets as well and tell the shareholders about them, so again, what is this secrecy bs all about? :P

its just making things more interesting for the staff of the companies imo, giving them the feeling they are part of some james bond szenario... :D
im serious, i think thats the only reason companies still keep those things secret, its only to keep their staff entertained and the morale up... :D

about the extra plug, its just an extra power plug like its found on mos engineering sample cards and mainboards i think :)

8-pipe quads. There will never be a 20 or 28 pipe NV card. 32 is obviously reserved for the Ultra if the market requires it, though NV correctly guessed yields would be miserable, which is why you aren't seeing the R520 remotely near the shelves.

how can you have 8 pipe quads, a quad means 4 pipes. And i'm pretty sure they are sticking to the quad system as well.

If you can have 16 pipe 6800GT/Ultra and also 12 pipe 6800nu then why not have a 28 pipe card down from 32 ?

However I doubt nvidia will be doing 32 at all.

AFAIK FUGGER does not predict that much, he just benches. He's quite good at benching ....

If thats the high end card expect it to be at least $499. Just get a 6800gt for half that price instead, who cares about another 8 pipes, from the looks of it, the g70 is nothing more than a 6800gt with 8 pipes more :stick:

Obviously you haven't heard the rumours that say ATi is having problems with the transition to 90nm lowK... very low yield, while NVIDIA isn't having any trouble with its current technology. ;)
