OPB's A64 X2 4600+ Testing report Part I

hi, Just got this baby this morning,
So far so good except run many times PCmark04 and got grammar check failed
could not get any score, so think I will need to reinstall windows to make it right.
Let's see the CPU and post screen:

4600+, default 2.4g,1.30v

Some resonable results on sub-zero i guess. i would rather see some air results tho (like people are just about to start crying for) :)

Looks like a bug / conflict with the software. I know that PCmark04 v1.20 fixed grammar test issues with the FX-53 so maybe the software needs to be updated again to run dual-core successfully...?

Maybe Windows re-install might fix that. You might also want to set multiple CPU option in windows during installation.

Nice preview! -22C is going nicely, hope this thing will not freak out under -100C.

My 840 EE dual core also does the grammar check error.

When I had this cpu, I couldn't complete the grammar check either. If it weren't for that, I could have come close to the #1 PcMark score with my lowly 6600gt and this cpu running 3190 - 290x11 @ 1.55Vcore. This was with a unmodded mach2 vs. Sampsa and Kamu's 4800+ on LN2:

nice.. grammar test failed can be related to memory's Trc, Trfc, Trtw, Twtr values try loosening them one at a time just a bit and see

How much do you have to slack the timings in order for it to work? So you're saying it would almost be pointless to run PCMArk with low latency ram?

I'd think it would be ok as long as memtest passes. If its even the timings thats causing it to error out.

OPB: Nice results, man! However, I am curious are you raising Vcore only with VID, only %, or a combination of both?

My guess 3.4 @ 1.58v

Not talking about the main memory timings just the advance ones :)

on my 3000+ 0516 GPAW venice i just plucked in at 9x315HTT with Gskill PC4400LE @285mhz 2.5-3-3-7 the only thing i had to change was Twtr from 1 to 2

so for me i went from

7-14-2-2-1-2

to

7-14-2-2-2-2

but OPB might need to play with those settings as he's on a different cpu and ram clocks are different

He's using default vid + 110% @ 1.55. Clockgen's Vid control doesn't work with this cpu.

Just a FYI, here were the timings I ran my FF's @ on PCMARK. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have a problem passing memtest at these timings:

Hmmm Odd... I have the same prob but it is only my DFI board (it cant change VID for either venice, winchester), but you always got the BIOS, no?

However, no matter what, still grammar check failed, I am wondering if anyone run X2 can be grammar error free.:D

So do you feel that it is faster than a single core at 3dmark '01? Or does it not show much difference? I think I will be waiting to upgrade b/c I can't afford it now and I don't need it just yet. But the clocks you are reaching are very good!

Did you ever get the cpu to pass the grammar check? I installed my other 4600+ and that one doesn't pass it either. :confused:

Thats not THAT bad. With water and 1.67v I barely get 2.8Ghz stable on my San Diego.

The problem was solved for us by Sampsa ;) And opb's not using a vapo, it's one of PcIce's VS series single stage units. :)

That 110W is TDP, not wattage output. It's Thermal Design Power - it's a rating that's related more to the watts which are drawn into the cpu rather than how many watts of heat are output. And btw, your cpu isn't going to be rated the same as AMD's "official" specs ;)
