I haven't used DCS in eons so they could have turned to crud, but a few years ago they were ok.
i'm from uk also and this will be the first chip i won't pre-order till prices drop. they are supposed to be only $580, right now that is £317, add on 50 for vat and that makes it £380 or so inc vat for the 4400+, its £100 overpriced right now for no apparent reason. First place in whole of europe i saw with it pre-ordered is a place in norway i think with these exact prices. that shop also had the first 3700+ pre-order in europe and at £290, its now £235 or so there inline with the rest of the world. I'm hoping, very much so, that places have simply taken these prices for now but will change when they are available. trust me, a LOTTA stores base pricing simply by checking other sites and making the price very similar and they aren't always right.
Remember taht VAT in Norway is 25%!! :slapass:
X2 can be pre-ordered many places in Norway, but it's expensive!

Edit: LMAO :ROTF: I was confused because on Monarch it said AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Dual-Core 1MB Per Core 90nm and I thought what they meant was the price of $999 was for one 4800+ core. I looked at it again and then it hit me that what they meant was that there was 1mb l2 cache per core. And anyways, how would you put 2 cores in? There's only one slot in the mobo and you can't put them one on top of the other. :am:

yep, they are kinda in line with us prices, but us prices should be $580, so £25/30 less than komplett. but again very few cpu's stay at rrp prices due to competition. afaik very few items are sold above rrp, basically thats the price amd set so people know what to expect, then stores all compete with slight drops in cost. for instance the 3700+ came out most places at rrp, its now £10-20 below most places.

see, people have said uk/europe doesn't get stuff before states, we've had more sites pop up, and first with pre-orders than the states, and i think we have same/some earlier dates listed than the states. we got the venice's(3800+'s) a couple days earlier. not sure why its happening but its good, been happening for well over year, we had some of the first x800's too, and winchesters, hell even the 9700 pro's were available same time here. however nvidia cards deffo were the exception.

fyi - tankguys.com has pretty much confirmed that they're getting 200 X2's (not sure which speeds) tomorrow and will be shipping them out on the 8th. Better prices than monarch and free shipping. They've been pretty active on the anandtech forums and appear to be good guys.

The guy enragedcow had earlier been talking up tankguys then posts a direct answer to someones question about distribution sites. This is shortly followed up by what seems to be an attempted explanation from the "official" tankguy and a lame excuse given by enragedcow as to how he got the information.
However if you look at what he has posted (enragedcow) it is in direct response to a question on Indiana from EOdirect so the cut and paste of an email excuse doesnt wash at all.

This cpu's not as strong as the one I sent OPB, but it does run cooler - and this is damn cold for a stock mach2. -41C Mach2 Evap reading, -36C TypeK Probe on face of Evap, -18C internal temp diode on cores....

There was a pricegrabber listing a couple days back for a 4800+ at $888. Turned out some guy at a computer store was selling a couple of engineering samples, but then claimed they were already sold. I think it was a sham.

Persuasion is great as well as saving all the allowances you can get. I still remember my first Apple II which I did save about $2k and my parent helped in after a year of persuation (twice a day every day, nothing too long, just brief comments). That was when I was 11 back in... 85... Damn, I really did have kick ass system back than. Dual 5.25" FDD, Color CRT, Apple IIe, Homemade sound card (adlib clone I soldered up with whole lot of jumper wire), Epson LX-80 printer, what a kick ass system it was!!!! :)
Due to lack of games really... I played with basic and assembly half the time which became my job as time went on :P
BTW, back to topic. I think I am sticking to Tiger Direct. Reasonable price, shipping, no tax at my region, and I've dealt with them numerous times before with absolute satisfaction. 24x7 phone support is awesome too.
