2GB OCZ PC3200 Performance + DFI NF4 SLI-D

This memory is pretty old on P4 platform did 230-238mhz 3-3-3-8 at 2.65-2.8v vdimm. Now on AMD64 let's see :)

- note SLI mode will probably reduce cpu related performance slightly so take that into a/c with the benchmark results.
- Tref of 0388 was the key to stability with 414-3 bios while 0648 was key for stability on 310 official bios both bios resulted in same max 225-230mhz 3-3-3-7/8 at 2.8v. With wrong Tref set test #3 in memtest would error once or twice every few passes.

Impressive for dual channel 2gb.

Nice to see someone playing with 2gigs of memory on the A64. I'm wondering what prompted the test. Were you curious about them after finding the pair? I just picked up the Geil 2x1Gig kit (GE2GB3200BDC) to play EQ2 which is running out of free memory and disk caching on a few maps. I'll post some results if I manage to get any overclock on them.

Not too bad, but expected more. My PDP Patriot 2 gig kit will do 235 3-3-3-7 with 2.75v. 240 is also doable but they start to get a little unstable for gaming (the hardest test there is).

This is on I865PE, should do better in my new rig, we will see.

Soulburner, it does seem on P4 it does better, i got 238mhz 3-3-3-7 on on 865PE board as well. Are yours PC3200 or PC3500 rated ?

ABout a year or so ago, Karnivore had his 2 gig OCZ ram doing 250 at cas 3-3-3 too, I remember cause I almost traded him my CPU Cooler that I bought from SIN, for that ram :)

Have you tried running them in single channel mode (ie. just put 1 x 1GB stick in the 1st set of DIMM slots, dunno if 2 work...)?

Personally nothing I run really gets much of a boost from dual channel mode and I'd much rather have 1GB of RAM that is fairly fast (thanks to being OC'd of course) than 512MB of blazing fast RAM...

...and why not have both? 2x512 would get you your 1gb at high speeds.

I went a head and tried the 414-3 beta bios with my 1 gig stick (2nd stick comes wed) of mem and now I cannot change dividers? It won't boot into windows if I run anything other than 1:1. =/

Any idea's b/c bios 3/10 and 2/01 both wouldn't do jack with my gig stick but this 4/14-3 does. There another good bios for 1gig sticks I should try?

tried enabling bank interleave or disabling it ? cleared cmos after bios flash ?

maybe single channel issue ?? never tried single channel with dividers on DFI NF4 before... what 1GB modules are they anyway ?

Transcend 1GB PC3200 ones, they use Samsung UCCC IC's (rofl). Nothing special they do the same timings as yours but only to 220ish. I wasn't expecting even that as I got them cheap. Speed wasn't my goal 2GB was. And yea MM said that single channel is prolly my issue, other stick comes wed so I will post back then.

This weekend I tried out my Geil 2x1Gig PC3200 set and the initial results are not good. At default speeds they go to the advertised 3-4-4-8 timings. I clocked them up to 220 1:1 for a few runs through memtest and then into windows for a quick bandwidth check. Nothing earth shaking there of course.

The big problem seems to be the dividers. I can't get lower than the 166 divider. Anything lower results in no post into memtest. Using the 5:6 166 divider I can't get the HTT higher than 239HTT. As soon as I go to 240 (200 effective) it has problems. I can get into memtest but not into windows. All settings are on Auto except for the 3-4-4-8 and Interleave Enabled. It looks as though dividers = less than stock memory speed. Dang.

The only odd thing that I noted was that while using A64 Tweaker was everthing on the left column was showing the asterisks indicating a reserved value. Memory timings were showing up way higher than the 3-4-4-8 reported by CPUZ.

At stock 200HTT speed I got the timings down to 2.5-3-3-7 with 2.7v.

I finally settled on 3-4-4-8 224HTT 1:1 2.8v to try it out on EQ2. The extra memory seems to have eliminated the disk caching but I still have a little stutter on the part of the Port Qeynos map. Maybe because I'm running the CPU 900mhz slower than I do with my BH-5 or TCCD which have no problems with the 5:6 and 9:10 dividers. :( Although considering that, I'm surprised that the net effect in overall game play performance is small :confused: At least at 1280x1024 "Very High Performance" setting the difference is small. The performance heirarchy on this game looks like video card>memory>cpu.

I was thinking about returning these to NewEgg and getting another pair of the OCZ Plat. rev.2 to mate up with the pair I already have and see if I have better luck with 4x512 and 2T. But since these sticks do their advertised speed and timings (albeit only at 1:1) I'm reluctant to anger the RMA gods for fear they will send me more unspectacular memory.

EDIT: I'll try the latest bios. Haven't updated since the 3/10 released.

wow gun, that really sucks! plz let us knwo how it goes with the newer bios. I hope things improve.

Flashed to the newest bios and I was able to use the 2:3 133 divider for the first time. Everthing set on auto it came up with the SPD timing of 2-3-3-6. 233 is the highest HTT I can get to before I start getting errors though. Bah! I'll keep playing with it but i don't expect any dramatic changes. I'm thinking this ram will end up in another gaming rig mated to a 3500+ I have sitting right now.

@Eva, any chance you could confirm the 133 divider works with your memory?

Ok I still cannot get any divider to work.

Now have 2 x 1GB modules, and have tried bios: 2/01 3/10 4/14-3

Simply put if I use a divider I cannot get into windows, it just locks during post. Looks like I'm getting rid of this board.

As all DFI's support team told me was that they only know of one working 1GB stick and its made by buffalo. Way to make a note of it for the users. =/
