TCCD Memtest86+ Entry Guideline

** This entry guideline is written by my friend Chonshon.
Testbed：
CPU : K8 S939 3000+
CPU Cooler : XP-120
MB : DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D bios：310-1
RAM : G.SKILL TCCD-LA 440 256MBx2
Power : ZIPPY 500W
VGA : ELSA 6200TC
H.D. : Seagate 160GB 8MB
OS：windows sp1

Get in the bios Dram section first
Set the proper parameters:

Vdimm choose from 2.6v

Enable the memtest86+

Now set the timing of your ram, I set from the most aggressive options:

save bios and leave then system will boot into memtest
we can run the test 5 first
**note: When you run test 5, you need to give your system good air flow. this test product lots of heat.
If you are not aware of this, then the test is not going to be acurate!

press "c" enter to the menu:

press 3 get in to test menu

enter 0 to start the test you choose

so for the 2.6v apparently is not suitable for this.

So now, we will need to back to bios and find the proper Vdimm for that.

get 2.7V：error on the 21st round.

2.8V：error on the 1st round, see, higher voltage is not really useful for TCCD

2.9V：error on the 5th round

From the results above, we can choose the 2.7v for you to test on the DDR600 2.5-3-3-5.

Now we're gonna find the dram drive strength

all the tests above I was using level 5
now we can try level 6~8
level 6

So we see that 3632 cycles with 70 passed no error.

until now, you can just say your Ram only pass half of memtest!
What about the other half? yes, it's test 8#!
In general, I can say, if your setting can get 30 pass error free on test 8, then you are all set for memtest.
(certainly with test5 40 pass error free.)

Some times your memtest error is not because your ram, that's because yourair flow is not good enough.

very nice, too bad we dont have a windows version of memtest86+ for those of us who dont have a dfi and rely on A64 Tweaker to adjust these settings.

excellent guide for TCCD, but keep in mind that passing memtest doesn't necessary mean the windows would be just as stable, in the past I have had memtest on 5 and 8 error free for 24 hours but sometime can't boot into xp, gets random BSOD, or 3dmark failed to bench. Once you're done with memtest there's still a series of tests that are recommended to be run to ensure 100% system stability, such as prime95, superpi 32m, 3dmark in loop and whatnot. ;)

Can anyone tell me what the tref 3632 value cycle reads using A64Tweaker ?

I cant find out since my DFI is getting RMA'D and the MSI Neo4 Plat/SLI has different values in bios.

hey opb. in my environment, for some reason, test #8 takes less voltage then test #5. if i give #5 .1 voltage to pass, test #8 will bomb.

this is with bh5.

any suggestions?

for BH5 play around with Trc, Trfc, Tref, Drive strength, Drive data strength and chipset and LDT voltage - using 310 official or 331-3 beta bios is best for me

thx:) i been playing with them and more for weeks, hehe. just cant get a definitive stable mark. either im doing something horribly wrong, or i am just very unlucky.

big thanks Onepagebook, 3632 Tref is the key for total stability for me. Windowsmemtest runs for hours without errors now. Really cool. I've tried several tref settings, but not this one. Up to 300-400% in windowsmemtest no problem with 3,00V. 2000% with 1-3 errors. Working, benching and so on, no problem. With your Tref setting I only need 2,8V for my OCZ 4800 modules. Very very nice. If I've enough time during the next days I'll test lower settings. For the moment it's enough with stability testing. My work has to be done.

Weird??!! :confused: I just killed a G.Skill 512mb PC4400Le stick when I tried these settings. Cmos reset done, but no effect, only one module is working right. The lowest yellow and orange banks also don't work anymore.

With the other stick, my computer hangs at the Lanparty Logo.
The 2 highest banks are only working. I'm now running single channel. :(

Killed one ADATA last week with Twtr 1, too. Some TCCD really don't like this setting. Used the a64tweaker, system crashed immediately. After resetting the system the module was dead. The corsair 4400 TCCD sticks don't like this too. Same effext, system crashed. But the modules were ok after this procedure. Total crap in general. Nothing between 220-290 worked with any setting.
The OCZ work perfectly with the setting OPB posted. Just RMA your sticks an try again. The memslots nearest to the cpu are not working in single channel mode.

Yeah very weird. But I tested the both modules in my Athlon XP rig and booted fine in windows. My sticks ain't dead I think.

I Also have tested 2*512mb DDR400 ADATA cheapsass ram on my DFI+A64 and. This also don't work. I think my motherboard isn't good anymore.

Tomorrow I'm going to test on a MSI Neo4.

Unplug the power cable and try again. During test sessions with my board this situation appeared several times.

Don't works for me I think. I unplugged the cable serveral minutes. When I try to boot with 2 sticks in dual channel, the systeem is giving beeps all the time. I think my motherboard is screwed. Any suggestions?

Edit: I have just tested my 2 sticks in dual channel mode on my MSI Neo4, At least I can boot into bios without hanging. This was just a quick test. Afternoon i'm going to run memtest to be sure that it isn't my memory.

DFI are great overclockers, but not for stability and 24/7 use I think.

Edit 2: Tested the G.Skill kit on my Neo4. Everything is working fine.
Tested again the cheapass ADATA DDR400 on my Ultra-D. It was booting and running memtest fine. I was using dual channel, 200mhz 2.3-3-3-7 1T without errors. But my G.Skill isn't working anymore on my Ultra-D. G.Skill kit isn't broken because it works my Neo 4 and Asus A7N8X-X (AXP).

this (http://www.memtest.org) is what's in the DFI bios.

here's the OCZ version which allows tweaking of memory settings from within the program http://www.ocztechnology.com/display...me=ocz_memtest, but it is based on v1.27

you can see in the MemTest link what updates have happened from 1.27 to 1.55 . though many are "minor bug fixes" ;) there looks to have been some A64 changes too.
