i've got two sticks of crucial ballistix. one of them can do 1.5-2-2-10 at 2.9v, the other can't, even with 3.1v. i'll be doing some testing, probably tomorrow, to see if it really provides much benefit over cas2
not sure about 100% stablilty, but it made it through 2 passes on test #5 without errors, so it's good enough for now.

yup, crucial ballistix use micron mT-5b G chips.
and curiously, i just tested 2-2-2 timings. couldn't get any higher :stick:
i've known for a while that my memory controller has issues.. i wonder if that's coming into play.
It is the same chip like ocz3700 eb? I will test one of those.
ocz has -5b C instead of -5b G
not sure exactly what the difference is, but i think G does better with less voltage.
Try with 3.4v or over (not over 3.6v) ;)
One of my Ballistix do 250mhz 2-2-2-5 with 3.4v stable in Spi :)
what voltage can ballistix actually take for daily use? has anyone ACTUALLY fried ballistix from high voltage? Or do we know for a fact it's not voltage tolerant (but seems to benifit hugely from higher voltages)
cause at high voltage it seems some do 2-2-2-5 timings 250 fsb...and at high voltage it can also do 300fsb at slacker timings...probably die very quickly?

Over 3.6-3.7v is dangerous.
With Ballistix i can't do 300mhz, while with Tracer i can. At what timings you take 300mhz ?

not me personally lol :/ I've only got them 270mhz 2.5-3-3-6 with 2.8 volts *drops to 2.78 underload* i need a soldering iron and VR's before i can get any more voltage :(

On my 3200+ 1 stick do 250mhz 2-2-2-5 and the other 240mhz. In dual channel i take 240mhz 2-2-2-5, same as the slower stick...
both sticks can do 250mhz at 2.5-2-2-10 with 2.8v
and i've tried playing with the ram slots too, 1+2 seem to work best for me
Those crucial ballistix are really mad... I've seen some at 265Mhz 2'5-2-2 with less than 3V.
yup, seeing as i can get 250mhz with just 2.8v, if i can overcome my memory controller limitation, i wouldn't be surprised if i saw 260mhz out of them..
also, i'm not really understanding why these never really came into favor? it's cheap, oc's well with tight timing, and doesn't always need lots of voltage, but can take it if you have it. :toast:
Big number mentality would be my guess. Perhaps once both manufacturers use integrated memory controllers and latency becomes a "universal" issue, people will care more about it. But by then, DDR2/3 will be the standard.Quote:

i need an extra 512 mb of this stuff so i can run dual channel *Sigh* probably crippled about 3 seconds in super pi cause i'm running single channel.

You arent changing to cas 1.5 from within windows are you? Unless something has changed recently there is still no way to change cas latency without setting it in the bios and rebooting.
no, when i try to change cas in windows, it hard locks. all these settings are 100% bios set, no tweaking in windows. :toast:
on my bh5 I can change from 2.0 to 1.5 in windows, but I can't go from 2.0 to 2.5 or anything else. Can't go to 3.0 at all obviously.

hmm, i have some old bh-5, in the form of 2x256mb single sided hyper-x. it's in my parent's computer at home right, so i can't play with it... though it does 220mhz with 2.8v on my asus a7n8x, which i think is pretty good :D
jebus, one of my friends bought some pc 4000 ballistix, and his lucky bum gets 240 2-2-2-7 and 250 2.5-2-2-7 @ only 2.8 volts!!! i mean WTF is that?!
i would think he can get more out of 2.5-2-2 if 240 at 2-2-2 is doable. :toast:
thought i'd bump this. got another 5mhz at 3.1v. i'm not certain, but i think something's up with my memory controller. i can do 230mhz and get 0-2 errors per pass of #5, then 231 = ~3000 errors!

Thats pretty normal. I can go from 245 with 0-2 errors and 246 is like 8000 errors. BH-5 btw. :stick:
