Tagan 480Watt-U22 -> no voltmod needed!

Got the new Tagan 480Watt-U22 2force!
Very stable and cheap PSU.

SLI support split 12v 20A /20A or combined 30A :D
Better amps then the OCZ 600Watt!

On great change is this PSU contains three VR pots:

As you see a very different PCB and inside then the Tagan 480Watt-U01.

The voltages where a bit low in windows. I used DFI ultra-D, 3000+, 6800Ultra PCI-E and 2x SATA 120GB.

Lines were (windows):

3.3v = 3.28V
5v = 4.95v
12v = 11.60v :(

When I turned the pots I get a superb boost!

New lines (windows):

3.3v = 3.28V
5v = 5.24v
12v = 12.30v

Those two pots shown on the first PIC, doesnt have any effect.
But the one on the right, there is a small pot.. this one works!

Great PSU :D Gives me plenty power for SLI mode for only 100E / 140$ :toast:

yea there great psus. i have the old 480 without adjustment 28a on the 12v rail sits at around 12.09 idle drops to 12.03 load , and barely makes a noise with the silent fans. good price to

Hmm, so it's nearly the same as the older model. The tg480-U01 has a 12V/5V poti inside, too. ;)

Simple, on the box or product sticker.

U22 version have a splitt 12v which you can set to combine.

Does the older model allso has the pots inside (I own one) ?

Ja v-sense mod, de 5 en 12v kunnen alleen verhoogd worden.

i was uinder the impression it had no internal voltage adjustment

yep it does work on the 480 tgu01 , just did it theres a little pot on a board turned it a bit and volts went upto 12.35 , 5.16 , 3.29. dosent seem to bother the psu as the smart fans are still spinning slowly. got a pic of the pot but its crappy quality. but the pots easy enough to find , its kind of a creamy white ish color

I also have 480-U01 and I couldn't find any VRs when I disassembled this PSU...

I also took few pics of it... and there is no sign of any VRs... Could you please show me where is this VR located in U01 model.

I got a VR on this PCB :/
and i turned it just under a quarter way round...and bam.... 12.4 volts and 12.2 volts under full load...(was 11.8)

Vcore still isn't great though..i need to solder some more capicitors in parallel...that's where hipro's IC7 mods will come in ;)

yep...EXACTLY the same here...right out infront of your eyes when you open it...a little weak plasticcy screw thing...orange..

so you just turn it with some small screwdriver a little and then ? close it back and test ?

i had mine powerd up and in the bios just turned and watched the volts go up and settled on a nice number

yup...just turn to your hearts content...just be careful...it's a not like a 24 turn VR it's like...1 quarter turn gets you about 0.4 volts

yea sure just dont touch any caps or anything as they hold a big charge. just take the top off and the pot is on the circuit board near the edge , its very simple

I own a Tg480-U01, I have the pot for up +12V and +5V (is that for these 2 voltage, or only for +12V?).

I just need help to know some tips before modding it:
-just turning it 1/4 in the time way (ie from 12:00 to 3:00)?
-Is that making my PSU more stable (and will be helpfull) for Overclocking ????

don't mean to bash the psu, but didn't you say it's 140$ usd? Maybe prices are more expensive in the uk, but I don't think thats a very good deal. Fortron 530w is I believe 80$ on newegg, ocz 520w powerstream is 140$ and the Zippy 500w is only 120$ with I believe 32a on the 12v rail.

The trick works with the Tagan 530-U22 thanks man.

Many Many Thanks to the finder of this information (I thought tagens were unmodable, now I know, it even has a pot). Just bumped the 12v from 11.90V to 12.27V (idle) 12.21V (load) :D :D :D :D

This is a first revision U01, and I'm pleased as punch. The pot, as seen in the pics, is an orange colour, and mine had some bluish gunge in it, I used a knife to turn it, while in windows looking at MBM5, it only required about an 1./8th of a turn.

Umm to the guy that said it was a bad deal, do you know that these are actually selling for around $85?

So you can adjust the 12v and 5v together, but not the *** 3.3v *** from what I'm seeing here. Guess you gotta buy a DDR Booster to get good vdimm or do vsense mod (if you have a 3.3v sense wire) Still a high quality unit IMO tho

I own a 580W U15 (easy con)...and I`m not happy with this PSU, cause my 12V and 5V line isn`t stable...is this trick also usable on U15 series?

In the Netherlands the Fortron AX500-A is $80, OCZ Powerstream 520 $159, Tagan 480 U22 $95, 500W Zippy and Seasonic are $158.

AFAIK prices in the UK and Germany are similar.

guys do you measure your voltages with a multimeter or only look them up in MBM5 or other SW?

i think the SW is allways wrong. my 12V rail shows from 11.67-11.8V while with a multimeter it's perfectly stable at 12.2V (antec true 430W). what do you think about that? i trust an external reading device more than cheap motherboard sensors.

Yer well, since becoming housebound a few years ago it gives me something to do and keeps the mind ticking over, though I was lucky enough to kill maybe 3/4 of my brain cells in my younger days :D

Nice mod! It looks like a well designed PS too. Any problems with voltage fluctuation over time? Reason for asking is the brand of caps (fuhjyyu) aren't of good quality. They tend to bulge over time and I've seen voltages fluctuate as much as .30 on the 12v rail. Whenever I mod a PS, I replace these caps with Panasonic FM's and no worries about the PS crapping out in 6 months to a year. Voltages on the rails are totally stable with fluctuations dropping to .01 or nil.

I went out and bought a DMM today from Radio Shack ($25.47 w/Tax and Battery in NY).

I plugged the DMM into one of my molex's and it read 12.06v. I fired up ATi Tool and ran artifact scanner which stresses the CPU & teh Video Card. It dropped to 11.84v! :eek: :mad:

So, I took the comp apart, and opened the PSU. Found the pot and twisted it w/some needle-nosed pliars. The PSU was switched off @ teh back, but..I accidentally touched the solder on the plug in the PSU that goes to the wall socket. I got electrecuted w/120v lmao! :banana: I let out a yelp and cursed it off, I'm fine.. I'm just a daring..sometimes stupid 14yr old. :ROTF: So, remember to unplug your power cord haha. :slap:

Anyway, I turned it 1/4 a turn, fired it up. Read about 12.38v. (This was jumpered with 1 hdd plugged in.)

So, I plugged the rest of my equipment back in (mobo, vidcard, hdds, etc)

Fired it up, w/multimeter reading it. 12.35v idle, 12.16v load. Not bad!!!

(This is in Dual Rail mode)

When I modded my PSU (read above) I jumped my PSU, plugged in an old HDD, and my DMM. (Multimeter.)

My software (Corecenter by MSI) is pretty accurate. The DMM reads usually 12.35v while corecenter reads 12.32v. It's the same way w/+5v rail too. DMM reads 5.25v usually, while Corecenter reads 5.18v.

I wouldn't trust ANY software. And, the +12v reading on DFI's board's are almost ALWAYS very low...so I'd get a DMM for systems running those especially. Cmon people, go to your local radioshack. They're $19.99, plus a $3 battery, and they're REALLY nice. :)

I got seriously sidetracked when I changed my board over to the Expert so had no time though my rails seem to be reported correctly now with a very minor drop under load that is well within spec :)

Any pictures Pryo or alphaone?? I have 530-u15 and i need to buffed a 12v and 3.3v. Need pictures to see wich pot to turn up. Please guys.

I have had a close look into the back of my 580 U-15 and in the centre of the PCB quite close to the mesh grill I can easily see two adjustable pots :)

I would guess they are for adjusting the rails

i was looking from the back but i couldn't see any pots...regarding the lines, 12v is at idle at 11.92v and on load drops to 11.78v...3.3v line is stady at idle but on load drops to 3.28v, this volts is reporting Everest & speedfan...now my question is; will i get better oc if raise the 12v line to 12.22, so when it will be at load it will drops to 12v? Can i reliay on MB sensor for readings? The 5v lines seams fine, itds 5.11 all the time (idle&load)...thanks in advance

Your 12V line is still within spec. but if you can raise it then no harm in trying :)

The most important rails, especially for A64, are the 5V and 12V

I wanted to do the 3,3 vsence wire mod but when I did this to mijn 480W-U22 the 3,3V Rail is 4,77V :slobber:
VR doesn't have any effect to this. How can i mod the 3,3V rail of the Tagan 480W-U22 ?

Tried this mod on my TG480U01, opened the psu and found the little white plastic X shaped screw, turned it clockwise a 1/4 like you guys said.

My +12 rail was 11.78 but now it's 12.08 and the 5v is also higher.
The +12 drops to a little under 12.00 under stress so I will raise it a little higher tomorrow.

I assume you did put a load on the 3.3V line?

If you did I might open up mine as it seems to be fine (Don't want to void warranty if it sucks already).
