I got an X850XT PE that artifacts like crazy in Atitool (yellow dots). I even underclocked it to 470 on the core and it still does it. However, all benchmarks work well and I can play NBA Live 2005 just fine for hours. What gives?

hey what up Ice... you mind trying ATitool with your card...version 0.0.23, and try to find your maximum clock and tell me if it works fine?
Shoot... found out it was my memory overheating at 589... I guess it's pretty hot in my room.. lowered clocks to 580 and it works fine now... will try water soon.
wow... how'd you cool the memory?
whoah.. that is some crazy stuff.
You know... I can't seem to complete Aquamark either. At one point it just gets a black screen. Weird...
Hi,
Definatly a bug with aquamark and X850 XT
I dont have any difficulties passing 01,03 05 and playing hours of H-L 2 and counter-strike.
When aquamark is finished testing I get an error and no score and the program just exits.
Hopefully a patch somewhere.
Mcklain
Wow, I can see why no-one's buying these things and why ATI's not selling them LOL
Whats the highest you guys get on air for 01, 03 and 05 ? (On air without Vmods) Forgot this was Xtreme Forums :D
Perkam
Hi,
I am getting about 6900 in 05, 14700 in 03 and 30000 in 01.
It's not that ATI wont sell them, its just that there not really available at the moment. There all being sent to OEM's like dell.
Mcklain
Wow, not bad Mcklain, is that max oc for all three ?
30k STOCK WITH AN X850XT ??!! :eek:Quote:
i would have to geuss that is not max..but defualt.
Hmmm...Is that what you got Ice ?
Perkam
I score a hair over 31K stock with my X850XT-PE and FX-55. I think I was at 29K with the FX-53.
I'll have to try AM3 on my card, as I haven't done it yet. I've heard of guys running it, but I'll have to check into it.
FX55 and X800XT both at stock speeds make 31,5K :) (in my system)
I expect X850XT make some more, or not?
Hi,
My scores are overclocked at 2550mhz for the cpu and the video card is about 600/600.
Mcklain
got a stupid question (shouldn't hijack this thread, I know) but :
Is it wiser to get the X850XT (Connect3D) above the X800XT (Sapphire)?
I found 2 stores which have both in stock. Price difference is 30€, but I'm not sure if the 850 would be the right choice right now.
Again, sorry for asking.
Ummm...the X850XT has better yields on air more commonly than X800XT PEs.Quote:
Is it wiser to get the X850XT (Connect3D) above the X800XT (Sapphire)?
OH wait...did you mean the X800XT Non-PEs ?? I am hearing those are getting REALLY bad yields
But yeah those with X850XTs (Ahem, wake up guys) will be able to assist you better.
Uh oh. If Jupiler, with 2,331 posts has to apologize for interrupting the thread, I imagine I need to kneel and beg to SO many thread-starters LOL I cant even count them all. Seriously, as long as you're on topic, I think you're fine. The other end is ofcourse Karnivore sending you a pm because you're steering away from the topic too much :hehe:Quote:
Again, sorry for asking.

Ended by ordering the DFI and Sapphire X850XT.
If I'm gonna waste money, better waste it well. :D
HAve fun with it :P
Hehe, bedankt. ;)
wow, back in the days of my ol 9600XT, it went bad for no apparent reason, and seemed to have lost its dx9 support, because it looked all screwed up in dx9 games, but not older ones with dx8.anyway, i RMA'd it, and they sent it back to me almost just like yours, instead of messing with it, i RMA'd it again, (3times in the end b4 it was right)Quote:

Very bad thing : i'm totally disapointed , i've a lack of 2K between my old Vivo@XTPE , i just got 28K with F55@53 XPsp2 850XT@520/540 , high perf only and A64Tweak , and very strange thing 27K with my winnie (normally the difference is about 2K5 even more) .
i've tried under 2K 8.1 and XPSP2 and got the same score
Really,really strange....
I can't oc the card under 2K none tweaker work :/
I'll come back ...
5.2 launched , i'm testing them.

@pc_ice
is that 700core on stock volts? mine is at ~650, mem to about 620 on stock volts. before i go ahead and vmod the card, what sort of gains can i expect from them?
I was getting serious artifact issues in all games(most new games) and tried things like underclocking the memory, which seems to be the primary issue. But I seemed to have solved my issue. The problem seemed to be the fan speed. Default was only 4% in idle and it rarely got any faster, temperature rised to about 80 degrees celsius. That's too hot! With ATITool I modified the fan speed to go higher at certain temperatures. I have it running at about 65% while gaming which gets it to around 70 degrees real fast, but at 65% fan speed it won't get higher. No artifacts. Leave it slow when temperature is below 60 degrees and you shouldn't notice it, and when you are gaming you won't notice it either, so sound isn't much of an issue really. If you push the fan speed higher, you can probably even overclock the card quite a bit. Overdrive supposedly pushes it pretty hard, but I'd stay away from that and just use ATITool instead.Quote:

And I hadn't gotten any artifacts for the first couple weeks I had the card. I checked the temperature with ATITool which is where I found the temperature around the card was fine, but the GPU itself was going really hot.
Might be the card, might be the RAM on the card, might just be the case, who knows. But the memory can't take the heat and the default fan speeds aren't enough.
Hey, where are the read points for the X850? Anyone got a link or pic? Thanks.
Hey PC Ice, did you try overclocking on 2K/DX8.1 with yours? If what mr.roadster said is true, that would suck big time.
funny stuff someone had similar problems but messing around with AGP Aperture size fixed it... not sure if it will help but try it out :)
Hey man, thanks! :toast: Are both of those points used for the Vcore together or seperate?Quote:

someone can compare X800XTPE 520/560 and X850XTPE 520/560 with same cpu and ram settings under 3Dmark2K1 ?
pc ice, got the pic, thanks
Here it is the link: X850XTPE MODS by pc ice
this VC sucks : 28750pts with stock settings (520/540 optimal perf) and FX55 stock just A64 tweaked with BH5. :/
..Or my K8NXP-SLI hate it.
29100 high perf. it's so bad !!!
I ve tried to flash with 850PE bios : not better
I ve tried to flash with 800XT bios : lots of ram artefacts at 540 and no score improvement
@ misteroadster:
Might be the mobo or something with your config. I'm at lunch, so not much time to play, but you got me curious. System just set up so mem at 2-2-2-5, no other tweaks to mem, no P&R tweak, no cpu or PCI-e sideband, pretty plain run. Using XP and 520/540 and 2x256 BH5 I just got 30001 with default XT850XT-PE bios and Cat 5.1. I gotta go back to work, but I will be testing XP/2K, more tweaks, o/c'ed, etc over the weekend. I can try some more stuff for you if you want. The WinXP 30k seems on par with what I'd expect. I had a Neo2/X800XT-PE stock clock W2k score to compare and did like 31K, no P&R tweak, that 1k difference is from W2k and A64 mem tweaks IMO.
edit to add: Done on a DFI Ultra-D with whatever NF4 drivers where on the CD.
thanks mikead , your results are better than mine , but i think the m/b is not the only problem , there is a problem with X850 too i'm sure.
I think i have to jump in the DFI train now, and wait for better drivers for this thing.
my system in sig I get 13k stock in 03...
btw, is there a command to use DX8 when U got 9c installed to run 01 ?
It would suck me having to uninstall my 9c DX to DX8 to run 3dmark01 then the reserve to get back to 9c
Strange thing i haven't improvement with 2K+Dx 8.1 , so you can bench 3Dm2001 with Dx9c i think, just patch it with 330 patch.
Strange 2001 ranking :
OPB(DFI) and Pinto(MSI) sucks a lot but Jason(DFI)result is good with a winnie.
Herms(DFI) result is not so bad but not great.

Hmm, I wanted to try a W2k run with 520/540 too, just to see how it acts in my setup. I can't get anything to work to adjust the clocks in 2k either. I'll keep digging around, it's obvious by some of the scores in the rankings that something works with this card in W2k.Quote:

Well, it looks like I am missing a few points. Nowhere near 2000 though. That all stock compare I used from my MSI NF3 gives about 300 points more then I got in W2k with this setup with 520/540. This setup beat the old in some tests, but DL and Nature got hit. Something about the MSI, it smacked my 9nda3+ in DL's too, same VC in both boards. I still haven't tweaked the bios in this board at all. I'm booked until later tonight, but I'll see if I can't make that 300 up in bios.
edit to add: Nature took a beating by about 9 frames, makes me wonder if mem timings on these boards aren't relaxed a bunch to get those extra clocks. Same part on both boards, suddenly they clock that much better?
here's a compare FX/winnie under WinXP non acpi tweaked , the 1100 Pts difference is abnormal , it should be 2500-3000 pts , the problem is the motherboard (Bios) for sure , i think the winnie's score is good.

thanks pc_ice. any idea what clocks to expect with normal watercooling on 1.7 core? i like your mod!
misteroadster:
I'll go ahead and give you this as a comparison point. This is from that all stock clock XP run I did earlier.
http://mysite.verizon.net/res6otqr/s...WinXPStock.jpg
Your cpu tests look fine, at least compared to mine, but the ones that use some gpu (drags and nature) seem to be where you are getting dinged. Makes it a bit tougher to point to mobo bios or gfx card. I know AGP b/w could affect those tests, could be something with the pci-e bus. Just to finish fleshing out the picture, mine was run with SP2 and 9.0c. Cat 5.1's as mentioned earlier. Hope you get it sorted, without having to go to a second mobo, I've been there before. I'll post up again if I find any bios settings that obviously impact the tests you are hit on. Might give you some more insight.
edit to add: I did find a few hundred more points in bios, but only in the spots you were doing OK already. Don't think that'll help.

here is what a stock fx55 and stock x800xt PE should get:
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=8266139
from Macci none the less. 32.2k if your getting below 32k then somethings wrong and/or you are missing alot of tweaks. I also couldnt help but notice your winny was 289fsb vs. 200fsb for your fx55 so hence why the difference is only 1100. Your ram bandwith for the winny was probably higher.
Ok , thanks geforce but i'm in desynch 133++ , so i think my ram is pretty close to 200 Mhz , my bandwith is not improved.
Mikead big thanks too ;)

Sorry OPB but , it's just a constatation , look at the jason/winnie score 100% aircooled and winchester , and look at yours , and you 'll understand i was right. :stick:Quote:

For those who have problems with their X850XT , if they can't hit more than 600 Mhz to the ram , by changing my Trp from 5 to 6 by using ATI tool , i can hit 655 now , before it was 587 mhz !!!
I need a bios editor now.
you mean it was at 5 and you loosened it to 6 :D did relaxing that timing hurt performance any clock for clock?
before my max nature was 430 , now 480 , i think it's better :)
weird why would tightening card ram timings make it go higher ?
he meant losening it to 6 from a 5
oops thanks geforce , i've done a mistake ;)
Nice tip! I'm testing out the mobo more now, but when I get back to the card I'll give that a go. 620+ was OK with stock volts, 650+ would be great!
lol.. makes more sense loosening to 6Quote:

MR, that is interesting problem with your card/ mem timings. I didnt experience that.
ATITool 0.24 Beta 1
- Added option to control artifact detection sensitivity
- Fixed memory timings editor's MEM_TRFC extra options with garbled characters after the list of correct options
- Added option "Beep on artifact"
- Default profile always in list, even when profiles.ini does not exist
- Fixed crash issue when opening Memory Timings Editor window more than once
- When multiple ATI cards are installed, you can now select the one to use
- Crash issues when returning from standby/hibernate with Catalyst 4.8+ fixed
- Fan control is restored correctly when returning from standby/hibernate
- Completely rewritten Kernel Mode Driver, it's no longer a legacy NT4-style driver
yes 650 no artefact , 655 with a fan.

Can you guys keep the core up high, with the mem at 650+ on stock cooling?
With my X800XT-PE, it was always a trade off. I had to walk a line between really high mem, or good mem and high core. I have my X850XT-PE and DFI sitting here...but PC Power has my PSU right now :( Seeing all of this makes me anxious to get it back.
wow do you think itll work with 9700s and 9800s? can anyone test it out?

I just changed mu Ram TRP from 5 to 6 and got from 607mhz to 660mhz benchable.

Anymore more memory tweaks??

PC ICE, can you do a run at 635mhz stock/tight timings, and 685mhz with the 2 looser timings? Just Nature 2K1 would be fine. I'd like to see if your ~50mhz mem gain was offset by the higher timings. Thanks :)
And please post back ASAP with cascade results :D
so........ bottom line, is the x800xt Pci-express FASTER than the x850xtPE?????
will this work on a vivo flashed X800 pro to XT AGP?
I'll try it on 3D01 too, maybe I get a better result.Quote:

Man... I just installed watercooling and anything above 600Mhz on the core will cause ATItool to lose its temperature readouts.
Also, my X850XT PE, even with ramsinks, can't seem to get at 590 Mhz stable, and I say many of you going above 600Mhz easily with the memory? My brand is a Connect3d X850XT PE. I tried tweaking the memory options to PC ICe's, but I still get artifacts when testing in ATItool.... any suggestions... or do I need a vddq and vmem mod.

Odd... with a WInchester at 2700Mhz with memory running 1:1, I only get 30K with clocks of 600/600.... shouldn't I at least get around 32K?
No, there is a huge difference with 3Dm01 between 1MoL2/512MoL2 , it's normal.
there is about 300Mhz difference.
I'm getting the same results (30.7k) with my 3000+ winnie at 2655. Card clocked at 600/630, stock cooler.Quote:

Looks like your scores are low.
Yeah they are a lot less than 1mb chips at Drago Low (don't think they are too bad at Drago High), but they make up for it elsewhere. Unrealneo reckons that a s939 Winny is comparable to a s754 Claw when both are tweaked....
Changing drivers and swapping to 2*512MB Corsair BH5 got me a nice boost.
Should do a clean install though, as I had a 6800GT before that, just uninstalled the nvidia drivers and installed the Cat's.
Corsairs ran at 248Mhz, 3.2V, card at 600/620
