I believe there is a fan with a shroud in the front of the condenser which will suck air through the rad and then blow it through the front of the case.

Is it just me, or is the condenser upside down; the discharge goes to the bottom of the condenser. It probably has some hidden purpose, as im sure chilly1 did it for a reason.

Aye, it does look upside down.

I got the same CM stacker case - love it, so roomy, the ethane cascade im building is gonna sit underneath it. I've made up a brushed aluminium enclosure for it to match the stackers dimensions (the depth is a bit greater, but its same width and only a bit taller than prommys).

Yeah it looks like it does go into the bottom.

In a few pictures where Reggie is holding the block you can see where he stuck his thumb in one of my Lytron fans just a few seconds after I told him to stay clear.

It almost ripped his whole fingernail off.

Another habbit of his is to stand in front of my larger 11" fans and let his shirt get sucked in. One day it will rip the shirt off his back.

Thanks for explaining it, I was going to ask him about the thumb, but I wasn't sure if it was an accident or maybe he just needed a manicure.

Man. Looking at those pics again has got me all jonsin' for mine now. I should've shipped Reggie my case at the same time you did. Oh well. :D

Imagine how I feel... Reggie posts pics and is almost finished, but can't ship until he's ready. So all I have are pics to look at. Teaser! I think about the "Master Cool" every 30 seconds. I am sitting here hitting refresh all day so I can see everyone's reaction. I think they approve. I know better. Dr. Chillenstein needs to take his time on this one before releasing it to the cold. You can't rush perfection. As of now, I don't have a decent 939 board or cpu to play with on here, so I think I will condensation proof my DFI nf3250gb and use my 62w mobile on her. I have always wondered what this chip could do under phase. If the cold doesn't kill her, nothing will. this cpu has been through more hell than you can imagine. I ran 1.8v through it. It's missing a pin. I run 1.75v through it 24/7 and it still manages to do 2.6 on water. It's my baby.

Yo, Alvin. I hate to break it to you, but Reggie actually named your next rig Matercool, not Mastercool. It was built upon the idea of leprechauns mating in the cold. :D

sounds like a red-headed step child from the way you abused it

I just spoke with Reggie last night. He said I am going to lose bottom 3 with cards longer than 6.5 inches. I am not planning on sli, so this won't matter. I really think the main issue will be audigy2zs. it's about 6.75in. so going by the left curve of the compressor, I think it will fit. Even if I need to bend the end of the pcb slightly or trim it with a dremel.
Other than that, I think this will work fine for now. My next concern is the pci-e boards usually have 2 1x slots above the pci-e x16 slot so I this might be tricky. mainly I need 2 actual slots for the pci-e x16 card. And I think ati is going to be the best option since nvdia uses extremely long pcb's. I'm glad I ordered that x850xt.ATI is able to cram a lot on a pretty short pcb. He is going to move the compressor all the way to the front and turn it slightly to allow as much room as possible for the expansion cards. The Sporlan controller is used to control temps in massive walk in refridgeration units. It displays, temps in red LED> and is fuilly progaramable. Reggie cut out the mesh screen perfectly.


Jikdoc gave me an idea. since the cm stacker is btx compatible, we might be able to flip the motherboard 180 degrees, thus making all the pci slots available and the door would be on the right side. The only factor would be cpu socket might be too close to the compressor. but it's worth a try. The pci slot panel can be popped out like leggos, and the 120mm fan bracket canm also be swiched around vice versa . here's a link yo what I mean...

i think the only problem to worry about is whether there is enough room in the case for the slack in the evap hose to fit when the case door is closed. i love the btx format even aside from the theoretical cooling benefits. 1 added benefit that i didn't forsee is that i can mount my bga ramsinks on the vga card without using epoxy with just gravity + thermal paste to hold the ramsinks down onto the video card. 1 minor disadvantage is that when you read the diagnostic led pci bracket, you have to remember it's upside down.

EDIT: having trouble connecting to imageshack so just wait a little bit to see the pictures in that thread.

If you want, I can cut anything into the side of the case with my autocam router.

Fugger, do you have a board that has a similar layout to the dfi Nf4 board mybe you can put it in the case to see if we can flip it. Let's worry about getting this thing to fit before doing any window mods. :)

I just spoke with Reggie and he sent an image that shows the location of the compressor on the board. here's an image of the dfi Nf4 board in regular and in the flipped position. I am not going to bother with sli since I think dual 2 gpus on a single pcb will be more realistic. etc. I won't get off topic here, but the DFI is definitely the board of choice right now, sli or no sli, it is the likely the king of 939 overclocking potential!

was talking with alvin (trans am) about it and we were wondering, does the compressor put out heat or is it cool to the touch. reason i ask is according to the dfi thread about the memory voltage, the area alvin outlined where the compressor would lie in the btx configuration is the area that has been noted to need good airflow because the mosfets will get hot when switched to draw power from the 5v line.

Compressors put out a lot of heat - they normally run very hot to the touch (too hot to touch most of the time). Temps as high as 70 celcius is not uncommon.

Not on a little hermy like that. It will be hot to the touch though

It depends. With a large cube condenser (3 or 6 pass I think, about 3x that of a prommy) my 1/4hp compressor runs quite cool under load. On the other hand, using the same compressor and condenser on a waterchiller I built, the compressor runs very hot.

Well, don't forget, there are 2 80mm fans in the bottom rear in the area where the 2nd psu goes. I could push some cool air in the area in question. Reggie is going to ship everything how it is, except he did some welding to make the compressor as close to the front of the case as possible. If it turns out I need to go the BTX route, I can easily do the change over. THanks for all your feedback..

There is one and the compressor is slightly over charged to cool the compressor

I also noticed that overcharging for the sake of cooling the compressor makes it run quieter.

All the pipes and the dryer is in the way of the other components.

I would run the pipes behind the motherboard or next to the 5,25" bays. Same for the drier. The pipes must NOT interfear with the handy build of the stacker. The condenser is in a good place IMHO. Used 3/16" tubing to increase velocity i guess?

The compressir really is a pain though. Just a little to broad to fit in the 5,25" bays (unless using a BD50 or something similar).

The idea is very nice, but the lay-out is far from ideal so to say :).

Never the less a nice project ;).

I think that the drier should be fine there.. its pointing down and should work, the user will just have to be careful when assembling it.

thanks for your creative criticism. I think the layout is about as ideal as it gets for this project. Reggie worked very hard on this for me. I think your comments sound a bit harsh, but honest nonetheless. Reggie, I am really happy with this and appreciate all the work and little details you did for me. The hard drive isn't the problem. That 4in3 bay comes out the front. Then you will place the harddrives in there and shove them in in one piece.

It's not that it isn't possible to put everything in place, so it's not a "problem". The way i think about it, is that the components could be placed much more effient so they arent in the way of anything :).

This isn't an offense to Reggie, I love his blocks ;) (have 5 of them :rolleyes: ) had his cascades etc.

actually with that compressor there was little choice, and teh perspective of the photo showing the piping is giving you a false perspective the lines are dress as well as can be I left the discharge line in the open due to its temperature. There needed to be room in front of the compressor for a fan to blow the air out the front and away from the Memory the compressor is slightly over charged to make teh fromt side of teh compressor sub ambient to ambient so no additional heat will be added to teh vicinity of the memory.

Yeah, the temp sensor in the controller wasn't adjusted properly. The DT200 will be the most accurate temp of the two (DT200 has an error margin of +- 0.1% of reading if I remember).

Yeah, I moved the condensor out and the chill control wires came out and from then it was a chain reaction of bad luck.. Next thing you know I have broken capillary tubes. Once I heard the gas leaking "tTTSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSsssss" sound I knew it was over.

Hey Chilly1, that's a really neat setup. I was wondering if you could post the specs of the system. I'm looking at building a similar system, i got myself and old full size server tower and am currently researching what components to use. I was also wondering, if i were to make the setup permantly mounted in the case, is it possible to use a passive condensor like that used on the back of fridges. It'd cover the whole outside of one side of the case (case is about 63cm x 35cm). It's just an idea, otherwise there's a lot of room in the case above the motherboard for a condensor (and perhaps the compressor). I was planning on using R22 gas as that seems to be pretty common ,and i'd probably get a local fridge mechanic to charge it for me, as i don't have access to the gear and can't justify buying it. I know there's heaps of tutorial type threads on here, but they all seem to be reaching for the stars, i just want to build a simple single stage chiller that'll fit in side the case. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. P.S i'm in Australia, so things may be a little different.

auusie you may want to go to advanced search and search threads started by "stockhatch" he built a simple single stage.he made a simple evaporator out of copper caps. most of his work and pictures are posted. that will give you something to read.if you want to buy a evap chilly sells them.
