so guys....i'll sell my AGP-6800Ultra and want to settle on a SLI-system....but i won't buy 2x 6800Ultra's but 2x 6800GT's
so, i'll cool both cards with water....and mod the BIOS' to 1.5V VGPU
but i only know, what's the average-oc'ing of ultras....could you all guys who has a 6800GT tell me, how far you can go 100% stable (not benchstable - i mean, when you can play f.e. FarCry forever ;)) on water (air-results are OK, too)
i just want to estimate, how far i'll probably go :)
Wondering the same, which brand is the way to go also.
If gainward had some PCI-E Golden Samples out, those would be the cream of the crop, and as you prolly know, a GT at Ultra speeds is faster, I think XFX has some PCI-E 6800's and a few other manafactures
I read someplace that it was the bios that made the GT faster than the Ultra at the same clocks, maybe try a GT bios with the ultra? If I recall correctly it improves 3dmark05 by like 150pts, nothing to sneeze at for a bios flash :)Quote:

The BFG I temporarily have is very weird. IE - after flashing 1.4V to it, this is what happens:
1) 3DMark2005 @ 420 MHz loop 1 hour = no problems. Performance increases accordingly.
2) 3DMark2001 @ 415 MHz _INSTANT_ hard-lock of the system.
This is with NV5 Silencer. I need to get some thinner bolts to mount my watercooling on it. This week :)
Point of view 6800gt 256mb - running on 401/1150 24/7 on stock cooling. temps are 53c idle and 65c on load
Gainward 6800GT AGP8X ( not GS ) @ 420/1150 1.4v stock cooling , 65'C full load running everyday
fastest on air i got a 6800 was 415/1100. this was stable for most games except hl2. with the gainward gs bios i gained ~70pts on 3dm05. i've had strange problems with 1.4v bios mod on my bfg card. with the 1.4v bios mod, i have a similar problem, will run through 3dm05 but locks on 3dm01 & games. only thing i can think of is possibly psu related. my system is near the max for my ocz520, i think under high cpu stress, there's not enough watts for the gfx card @ 1.4 and hence the lockup. the explanation could be simpler though, i read in a post on another forum that some of the newer (read this in october) 6800gt's can't handle 1.4v as well as their predecessors, possibly related to overheating of mosfets and/or lack of a 2nd molex which the ultras have.
430/1250 MHz. Watercooled and flashed to 1.4V.
POV 6800GT, running 400/1100 for daily use (flashed to 1.4V).
pny 6800gt no mods / stock cooling
can do 405/1130 forever ( benching sweet spot 410/1150)
i run it at 400/1100 just looks better :D

pov 6800gt bench at 410/1151 given enough air she'll do that in games. i use a slightly modded default heatsink (single slot). removed the fan and replaced it with a former coolermaster hhc-01 fan plugged into the nb-socket (running 8v). at 12v it handles the load just fine. anything post 410ish is not really stable. either lower mem and run 420 or keep it there...
Here my stable gaming speeds right now with watercooling, single 6800 Ultra. 1.5v.

422/1120 with my single slot gt BFG OC. SIngle slot cooler kinda sucks from what i undewrstand (thats what i have)
Yeah BFG stock cooler is a POS. Loud and sucky. Did you flash your card to 1.4V or is that @ 1.3V?
440/1200 24/7 with leadtek 6800gt. Stock volts but have added nv silencer to it..

Did you mod / flash another bios? The BFG I have tops out @ 1.1 on memory barely. What a POS! 2.0 ns, of course.

Couldnt you just put (the) extra cash towards picking up a nicer PSU for your system itself? If you're running that Aspire in your sig you could move up to a 520W OCZ or even a PCP&C and be well enough off to not have to worry about running dual PSU's.Quote:

haven't seen any....but my card was kind of a freak, so i dont know how "set" on Inno3D you should be. ;) I just think it's kinda funny cus they're kind of a "generic" or lower end brand, so it was cool to get that kind of an overclock out of the GT I had.Quote:

No spare cash for a GT but got a Leadtek 6800LE here with modded NV5 silencer plus 92mm fan @16x1:6 425MHz/946MHz @1.5v/2.88v with additional 3x 4700uF 16v caps soldered on for good measure... :D

that explains when i called gainward yesterday asking about 6800gt pci-e they told me they didn't plan on making one.
Leadtek 6800 GT AGP 425/1140 24/7 with or with NV5 (dropped temps 10C), run it there for benching before NV5 (429 max) Seemed to be a power issue going further.
On to my Leadtek 6800 GT - PCIe card one - 420//1190, card two 414/1158. Both together 414/1158 :) Gonna add an NV5 with AS5, to the worst card, and poss. look at upping to 1.4v.

Same here, I hit 455 on air at 1.4v....and couldnt gain on my overclock, or even maintain any stability with my GT at 1.5v...so I stopped there. Still trying to figure out how my ram did so well with stock voltage though, 1325 was nice. :p:Quote:

Quite the opposite actually....my memory (don't ask me why) got a nice little OC boost out of the 1.4v BIOS flash. I'd say in the range of about 100MHz DDR, can't remember exactly what my before and after clocks were for the ram.Quote:

If you mean the core, it's done with a bios flash. Google for it.
BFG 6800 GT OC--405/1100 on the stock bios and the stock 2 fan cooling
g.ward GS GT (copper cooler) used to clock to 440/1.18 on nf2 and now I'm limited to 420/1.15 on nf3 :shakes:
415/1.15 unless I up agp voltage to 1.65 from 1.5 in bios...
PNY 6800GT, stock cooling, no mods 405/1115 is about top speed at the moment.

Yes, this has been playing at the back of my mind since I rebuilt/upgraded the systems guts and made the discovery after my first bit of clocking. The only thing to really change were mobo/ram/cpu during the upgrade. I don't fancy spending the moola to find out if that's the case though as I've heard a lot of people mentioning the same problem and it could also be related to the chipset as much as it could be to the 12V rail?Quote:

Been tinkering so much since I got the setup that I'm not really bothered since it only affects my bench runs atm and I do want to leave it alone eventually since it's not just a bench machine, it's my main rig.
I'm off into town to do some shopping in a bit. It's going to be a tossup between some nice new speakers and the psu. Been putting off the speakers a looooong time now but I don't like the idea my psu could also possibly be limiting my max chip oc if the video is showing weakness. My videocard loops '05 @ 415 core but freezes in '01 almost instantly. What the hell is up with that?! Load temp is 46C [now on water, 20C down from stock cooling]

Well, it's a nvidia reference design board, nothing special. With stock cooling and stock bios, I couldn't get over 410. After tweaking cooling, biosses and especially the power supply to the card, clocks went up. I'm now at 465, but I can do better as I have no artifacts at this speed. IvanAndreevich, I have the same problem as you. If I run it at 1.4V, 3DMark01 locks up whereas 1.3V is 100% stable. I've heard that it is a problem with the NF3 chipsets, but I'm not completely sure.
Anyway, I can reach 420/1150 on stock. I could probably go higher but I haven't tried yet.

I looped 3DMark03 30 times, all tests, to find the reliable mark - 440/1130.

i have the same hard lock issue with my gt, but when i scale back my cpu overclock, it goes away. i notice that my gt hardlocks more often when i had it flashed to 1.4v. i'm leaning towards thinking that i'm having a psu issue. i'm running an ocz520 with a ton of drives (5hd, 2optical), water pump etc. using some psu calc, i'm up to 516watts. that's a little too close to the psu's max without taking into account that i'm overclocking. i'll know for sure if it was a psu issue, 700watt zippy should be delivered tomorrow. i just hope that i can tolerate the noise this beast is supposed to generate.
you should run all benches in 60hz its faster

I did a 470 run, but there was slight artifacting. I need more volts on the core, but the 1.5V bios did not help (instant freeze). I'll try a hardmod.

Wierd, I have no problems with the 1.4v bios. Havn't tried 1.5v as my temps get up to 78c sometimes and this is with the evga copper heatsink. What brand is everyones cards that don't work properly with the 1.4v bios?
I've decided to flash back to the original bios (1.3V).
Even at 400/1100, I'm getting garbage on the screen, once 3d01 starts.
After flashing back to stock speeds (350/1000), I overclocked the card back to 400/1100.
Sometimes, I can run 3d01 without any problems, other moments, I'm getting the same garbage on the screen and I have to reboot the system.
Tested this on the Neo2, Gigabyte 8KNS and ASUS P4C800-E (P4). Same problem on each board.
Don't know what's causing all this. PSU's I used are the Fortron 530 (on the A64 sys) and an older Antec 400W (P4 system with only 1 hd and a dvd).
