How about the 3800+ Newcastle?Quick,guys

Hello guys,There is a auction in ebay Germany,a 3800 Newcastle is offered.http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...MakeTrack=true
It is new.I am interested cause i want to oc it to 3GHz.
Does anybody have this processor and can say something about it?
Do you think 3GHz is possible with this one?
How about the multiplier,is it free?
The vcore can be increased same Athlon XP or same A64 Winchester?
Shall i take it?

If you throw that chip under a R507 compressor, you might hit the 3GHZ if your very lucky. I'd say go for a €130 Winchester and if you're lucky you might hit 3GHZ on BOX air.

No,i have no compressor!So you think only with compressor it can make 3GHz?My 3500 makes already 2750 MHz on air.So,better not buy?

The Newcastle chips generally have issues getting to 3ghz, so i'd keep that 3500+ if i were you :)

Newcastle 3800+(2.4ghz) has 12x multiplyer does it not? that means 3ghz should be quite possible , since you don't need to raise fsb as high, making stability more possible. the multiplyer is locked from 12x and up. but unlocked 12x and lower. I have a newscastle 3400+(2.4ghz) s754 with 12x mult and it loves to be overclocked.

Very lucky to hit 3GHz with a compressor but only "lucky" to get 3ghz box air with a winchester? that's the funniest stuff by far i've heard today. :D

Anyway I suggest you get the Winchester or keep your current one(seeing as it might be just as good with some better cooling), the Winchester will be faster clock for clock so you wouldn't even need to hit 3GHz to outperform the NC. You might want to check the date on it of course, newer is generally better. Also all non-FX are locked(except engineering samples, then). Good luck! :toast:

MrQ3W - I meant hitting 3ghz with a Newcastle on a compressor is very lucky, as new weeks with Winchesters tend to go towards the 3ghz if given enough Vcore. Have you ever seen a Newcastle do 2800mhz on default Vcore? I have not. However, i have seen a Winchester do so.

I can't say if you're being sarcastic or not, your specific choice of words leads me to doubt.

Anyways, i would shell out the money for a Winchester, or a FX-55 if your financial situation permits it.

I can also recommend the 4000+ 0.13µ (iirc fx-53 with locked upper multipliers), dunno bout the 0.09µ version. You can get the boxed 4000+ for 635 Euros.

The 4000+ is the same in overclockability than the FX-55?I think multi 12 and lower is enough,no need for Multi above 12.So you think the 4000 makes 3GHz on Water?Can buy this also tray?

The 4000 costs 699 at alternate,is on stock.

Like Super_strokey said, the 0.13µ 4000+ is rebadged fx-53. It's not exactly the same in ocability, but does great though.

I cannot comment on the .09µ version, but I would bet it's relatively easy compared to the 3000 and 3200+ variants to reach 3Ghz on conventional water or great air cooling.

Dumo did not really tell us why fx-55 is not comparable. Maybe he will do so later on.

@Hardcore7 Try to use preistrend.de to search for best prices ;) e-bug has the 4000+ in stock for 463Euros...

Yes,I think too,the 4000 winnie would be the best for me.But is it already available?Maybe the best for me to do is to wait for FX-57 or 4000+ winchester.Cause i have no prommie and dont want it,too.

Thanks alot guys for the information.I think i would have been disappointed with the 3800 NC.A good friend mailed me before that those chips dont go on 3GHz,even maybe not hit the 2750 MHz which my 3500 winchester makes.I have to look for Winchester CPUs,thats clear now.

You do not get 4000+ winchesters, the 90 nano process cant deliver stable chips above 2.2ghz at the moment. Thats my they are revising the process.

Hmm, I've found some weird paradoxons... Seems like there are two versions of the 4000+, the Clawhammer with the partno. ADA4000ASBOX and the "Winchester", partno. ADA4000BIBOX. The first one has a vcore of 1.55V and the second one a core voltage of 1.45V.

Yes it seems 0.09µ 4000+'s excist, or at least they will shortly.

Apparently:

ADA4000ASBOX - Retail .13µ 4000+
ADA4000BIBOX - Retail .09µ 4000+

It's possible they are on the new strained silicon .09µ process AMD announced. They did say in the press release that chips based on it would show up in Q1 2005. Even though it's only 2 days into it, it is Q1 2005... :p:

2.4 as far as I could see. Everything's the same except the default vcore and the production process :D

If I was in germany my card details would be entered faster than you could see! :D

How much are they retailing for again?

very very strange thing , but since the 4000+ launching there is a lot of mistake about it.
4000+ was announced at the start as 2.6 and 0,09 512Ko , and was launched in 0,13 2400Mhz 1Mo.
it's possible because opteron 0,09 are ready.
But winchester are 512K L2 0,09 , and if this 4000+ 0,09 exists , it's a san diego core.
i'll call AMD france today to know much more about it.

Hi guys,just today I decided to buy a 3200 winnie,its a 0445VPMW,new.the 4000 Winnie is very hard to get,and i dont want Clawhammer.In the moment,the 3200 runs prime at 1,5Volts and 2650 MHz.I hope it can go to 2800 or 2850 and then run benches

I think the newest Winnie Steppings are great.Now I run Aquamark at 2700 MHz,1,5Volts.Its amazing!

I bought mine from Atelco, seem like they never run out of stock.
