Chilly1 Ln2/DI container
Mounting isn't done yet but is done through a 1/2 inch thick PVC ring which is supported by the copper ridge on the pipe. The container is around 14 inches tall and will have 3/4 inch closed cell neoprene insulation. The contact block is a chilly1 spiral block like the ones inside my phasechange evaporators. I do have GPU coolers with the same dimentions but these have my new mounting system with a poly ring around the end of the block for mounting.

NOT BAD!!
One question though. Why not go with a thicker pipe for more surface area?
Dryice is so powerful in itself, but it is so much stronger if more comes in contact with the base/floor of the unit at once. That same design in a 2.5in-3in unit would be stunning.
Kingpin had awsome results with these units guys 3470mhz+ on his fx55 so they deff do the job nicely :)..

OMG!!! Chilly the gpu unit is so nice....the container should be perfect distance from card. You did it perfect. :toast: That is exactly what was needed.
I should have a really nice 2 piece clamshell done for the card and that unit should fit it perfect. I'm using hilti grip filler foam to make it.

I wonder if this gpu unit will keep the card components and mem as cool as the other containers w/ large surface area bases? Probably not, but this is where I have been running into cold issues on my cards and it's been frustrating. You really have to work on your condensation prevention more with the wider bases to get them to work right, or else it all goes berserk. On his unit, the cold is more isolated to just gpu area. It will be interesting to test and see the differences in overclocking between the two.

With the low wattages of the video card we have found that the rest of teh components still freeze up even with cooling only going through the GPU only. These blocks are capable of 500 watts with Dryice, can't imagine this on Ln2 But it would be nice to see...

I think you will need a lot of skills and experience and luck when using LN2 on a GPU. macci's Finnish team is one of the only one who benched GPUs on LN2 and only that once. IIRC he ran into stability and bootup problems, which hit me as well when I did LN2 on GPU.
LN2 is just damn hard to tame on a GPU, you gotta try it to believe it :D

Well if you hve stability problems with Ln2 you can always put a slight insulating barrier to migitate teh temperature until you get it stable this will also increase teh duration of the bench.

what kind of equipment do you use to make those, and what do you do for materials?

I use 2 3/8 copper pipe type L or M and a 2 3/8 cap which I drill a 1 3/8 hole in for my block and a chilly1 block and mounting kit. I solder it with high tinsle strength sta-brite #8 and a rosin flux.

yeah,its true.even at just minus 150C, my herc9700 couldnt make it.Caps are teh most important parts in this case.
anyway,great looking containers chilly.

Yeah you can use DI on GPUs. The DI container with the base on the side (at the bottom), is for a GPU.

Actually I use a granite lapping stone that is within 0.0005 ( I use a micormeter and a 0.00025 pivot for flatmness) but I then set a piece of sandpaper and take it down to 1500 grit With a 4 axis motion.. so this is as flat as I can get. The paper has a tolerandece of 0.005 also so I guess it is with in 0.00125 inch.

I use my blocks and a 14 inch piecre of 2.25 inch diameter copper type L pipe with the approiate cap on the bottom/.

I just need to add to this thread. The Chilly1 cpu container is one fine piece of work! I just did my first DI runs last night and managed to hold -68C on the block through 3.5GHz and 1.85V! I've got a bunch of pics I'll post up in this thread later, but just wanted to say now, I'm completely satisfied with the performance of the container. :toast:
edit to add: -68C with Win2k, P&R tweak, which runs hotter. Under XP, non-ACPI tweaked and 3.5GHz temps were -69.x. :)

Chilly's DI containers work damn good. Looks like you got a good chip too...hehe...I know someone else thats benching atm that would kill for that baby right now :P

Thanks man, the results from you guys up there ahead of me helped inspire me to give it a try. :toast: The same chip topped out at only 2.27 GHz under the LS, so I got a little more than I expected out of it with DI. I have to say too, benching hasn't been this much fun in a while. Great fun to have to stay on top of things with the setup while pushing it. :D

whatever it is I am sure it is extreme as hell :p:
do you just pour liquid nitrogen in there and hold it while you bench or what how the heck does this attach to a CPU or GPU? sorry I am such an ignorant n00b but this is most interesting!!!

There are mounts for the containers. You'd need one set of steady hands that's resistant to the cold in order to keep a tube perfectly set on a chip. ;)

There are a few random pics of containers mounted on CPU and/or GPU. Basically they are just mounted to the chip, and one puts either dry ice or LN2 into them to freeze the chip :D Enabling very high OC's usually.

yeh, it evaporates pretty quickly. probly need to fill LN2 2-3 times, DI maybe not that much

And yeah, DI will stay in the tube longer I think. I didn't let the tube get more than 1/2 empty, but maybe 1 full tube's worth of DI for an extended 3dm01 run with CL reruns.

At least high 42's. I'm a little pissed at myself for not getting as much as I could out of it, for the first time ever I think. I didn't get around to finding max cpu clocks until like 5 a.m. and just quit after 1 run. I definately appreciate the encouragement, but I'm having issues finding the time to get through another session atm. Busy as hell at work and a very pregnant wife are major time killers. Hopefully I can get 1 more session in before the jump to FX-57, top 5 is what I wanted out of this rig.

I just received a Dry Ice container from Chilly1 - absolutely awesome!
I actually got it for a school science project for my 9 year old son - planning to have lots of fun together.

With LN2, although I have not tried it myself, I would be inclined to think that it wouldn't matter.... I mean, will you get a bigger OC from -140C opposed to -135C? :D

i've got a round bar of copper here, its 4.8cm wide and 10cm long
think i can make 1 block for a dry ice container and 1 evap.
you don't mind i give it to a mill factory to make a copy of your block?
