I'd be ordering one if I had a PCIE card... Anyone wana send me 150ish USD?
Why is everyone quoting Geforce4ti4200 in their signatures? I mean isn't it a bit mean...?:)
hes a man he can take it :D
i like how the slot connector isnt blocked by the chipset but no fake SLI :(
cant even get chaintech here woiuld you believe?
I think this is a great deal compared to the other Nf4 offerings. A good bridge until the DFI comes out. I really need one of those new x800 XL's now. or one of these....Quote:

It is essential here how much overclocking will it allow. There are way to many mediocre boards around and I place my bet this will be one of them as well.
I want to see NF4 board that can do 300+ like Neo2 Platinum Ultra. Without that this is all nothing.
Nice layout .. CPU socket far away from GFX card. Close to RAM, though. Overall, it's kinda small too.
Yes the P/S connector is in a bad spot for me.. Where its at i'll never beable to reach it in my UFO case.. That and it seems with all non SLI boards, the Graphics are too close to the PCI slots.. Ya know the first one wont be usable and it will be a tight fit to get anything in the second one. So i dont see how i'll be able to get 2 cards in there.
Other then that it looks good cause of the price and past experiences with Chaintech with there 150 board have been freakin soild unlike other boards out there.
I'd probably jump on it but since i'll be waitin till the end of Jan to buy a FX-55, i'll wait and see whats the best by then.
nice layout. Looks good. I have no PCI-E card and I'm not willing to spend enough money for one...but still looks like a nice board
jjcom
Doesn't look like there is much room to fit a new chipset cooler on the togheter with a bulky gfx card..

doesnt bother me and hey its good for laughts :D I have quoted others that said funny things and whenever others read it they laugh. by the way, my dvd rom should also be able to read cd roms, nice eh? :p:
nice mobo, my chaintech for s754 did 320+ fsb I never even tried how high it could go. this gigabyte s939 does 290fsb, 300 doesnt seem to be too stable but I havent raised chipset volts yet. too bad I am sticking with agp for the time being but ill go pci-e much sooner if the new venice cpus do not work on nf3 mobos :(
this is a gamble. no reviews yet and chaintech skipped on nf3 ultra all together so they have had no user feedback for 939 yet. hopefully chaintech did their homework . it's going to be really good or really bad. We'll know soon.

I said 150ish not exactly 150. X600XT is 148 dollars at newegg. I'm not touching ebay for hardware. X700pro is 166, 6600GT is 186, 6600nu is trash, and the 6200U is lookin nice at 109 for the EVGA version. Maybe I can afford the stuff after xmas...
all this stuff is exciting but unlike trans am i only have a couple of boards at a time
ask him how many he has ive lost count
Is it me or is there no firewire?
- Awperator
I ordered one too. By the time I want to go SLI they won't be gouging anymore. I have a feeling I wont be able to push it too hard with my gigabyte of BH5. Don't feel like vmodding it, it's my first A64 setup and I don't want many extra variables. I'll let you know how it goes but I might have to order some TCCD.
i think i may get one to try out too? hey what pci card is equal or better the the 9800pro the 6600gt or the ati flavor? im not up to date on these new cards and probly going to need one if i buy this mb...
thx perc,
man all u ppl have too much money to throw at "temporary rigs"...
let us know how the board performs
hehe.... says the guy with a R507 MachII, raptors, P4@4.4 but also an A64 for good measure. :hehe:
New stuff is easy to sell. I dont know why my PCI-e 6800GT didnt show up. I dont figure I'll lose too much on my AGP one though... for example.
Perc, yeah the 6600GT beats the 9800pro most of the time. The X700XT is the ATi contender. I'd go with the 6600GT personally because if you're going for a roughly equal card to your current one you may soon find yourself wanting more. Throw in another and you're on your way. Then again you could always go with the ditch for a lo$$ model. :toast:
Anyone know about this new nVidia sound? Whats up with that? I guess it's not "soundstorm" but if it sounds decent and the cpu utilization is low... I'll take it. I thought I was going to have to get an Audigy when I went A64 but I'll leave that up in the air at this point. No simplistic codec only stuff... I think... yay!

the 6600gt is what i have been eyeballing. i figure i buy one now and when the prices go down on the sli boards ill buy another 6600gt for that situation. well $hit looks like i need to order a 6600gt and this mb and see what happens? my 53 should run decent in this set up right :DQuote:

Who is really going to take a risk with this board and tell us if it can match Neo. In the past that I know Chaintech was rather creepy company (nonexistent customer support) and only once they had a good overclocking board. Wanna bet on them?

peace perc,
I ordered one and can compare to neo2 in a review :)
I trust chaintech. They might not be abit or dfi, but have been putting out decent boards. Kinda like Epox used to be.
Nice John! All I can say was that my vnf3250 was as good as my DFI. It didn't have the overclocking ram options like the dfi does, but my overclock was exactly the same. I had nothing but luck with the vnf3-250. I can't say much for my 2 gigabyte ultras and 2 neo2s though.
Agreed. It takes alot for someone who gets knocked down to come back. He's not that bad really to deserve all he gets sometimes in my opinion.Quote:

jjcom
The VNF3-250 is a solid board at a great price. I'm pretty sure this new board is going to be the same thing. The location of the power connector is pretty stupid though..

Isnt the 6600 $122? why do you say its trash? arent both the 6600nu and 6200u the same thing? but you get ps3 with the 6600nu however. I think both start at 300/550 clocks too.

I see u have 24k marks now, you might want the x800np for $199 then it will crush a 6600gt so badly
Theres still lots of NF4 ultra mobos so come out, the Abit AN8, MSI Neo4, and Gigabyte K8NXP-9. I bet any of those would be better than this chaintech. But if anyone has one, please review!
Where are you seeing an x800np for 199? link?Quote:

thx perc,
How much Vcore and Vdimm can the Chaintech board give?
I believe, but i'm not sure, ATi has plans of making a x800np for somewhere around that price point...but i thought it was 250 bucks...I think I saw it on Toms Hardware.
Yeah, the Chaintech board is a good price point for those who want to go PCI-E and not want to spend a ton of money. I think Chaintech make a good choice if this board turns out to be fairly good.
jjcom
I'm still very curious about how much Vdimm the chaintech board gives.
We are all ordering this "blind." I can tell you on the 28th but no earlier. :)
Haha, so you all are basing your purchase on that the "Nforce3 250GB board OC'ed" well argument? What if this board OC'es like crap? Then you all pretty much wasted your money? Well, what do I know anyway :P, I wish you all the best of luck!
Chaintech probably did not developed a board that preformes worse than their old board. So it should OC well. Its just that chaintech haven't said how much Vdimm the board can give :(.
I'm thinking about shooting them an email, let me know what you guys want me to ask.
-Voltages, specfilcly the Vdimm
-Options on the BIOS
jjcom
I as well will have one on the 28th, and will be happy to answer any questions.

Radeon X800 R430 400 12 700 128MB VGA+DVI+TVo $199
Radeon X800 XL R430 400 16 980 256MB VGA+DVI+TVo $299
Turns out the Radeon X800 XL will debut for $299, or fully $100 less than NVIDIA's competing sixteen-pipe card, the GeForce 6800 GT. And that may not be the biggest news. The Radeon X800 (sans postfix) will now be hitting the market at :p: $199, :p: ready to go head to head with the GeForce 6600 GT. (Apparently, there is some truth in the rumors of the Radeon X700 XT's demise. The X700 XT isn't even available yet, and it's already been edged out at the $199 price point.)
cool looks nice, nice find GF.
Good move on ATi's part, but not for this thread, maybe one in the other section
Let us know how it goes. The board it self looks pretty nice, but then again so did my value board. Should be intersting
jjcom
I found a bunch of X800SE's but no X800NP's. The SE's are in the $300 range.
Please JJcom, mail them asap and get back to us :D.
Alright, sending the email now. Lets see what Chaintech will tell us
jjcom
Does anyone know if Chaintech is a reputable company, and usually makes good overclocking boards? The NF4 ulta board by Chaintech is only $120 and it looks like I'm ganna buy it, but I just wanted to know for sure before i bought one.
Looks like they are out of stock. They sold out pretty quick.
Only people who would like this mobo would be one's without case. The layout is just awful.

that chaintech nf4 was a good deal, not supprised it sold out. itll go great with an x800np or x800xp too :D
AHHH I was actually about to buy that tonight, and what do you know it sells out. Why was the chaintech so much cheaper than other nforce4 ultra boards with almost the same features?
Really? I don't think its that bad except for the floppy location. The IDE's are at the mid section towards the edge, and the atx connections are located far away from the cpu socket. This way, you won't have to deal with your atx power cable restricting your cpu fan airflow.Quote:

The only nice thing about the Abit is, at least it has the holes for extra mounting studs to keep the board from flexing, unlike the Chaintech.

Yes, we are going into this blindly, but without 1 review and lack of experience with 3rd gen. K8 boards, sometimes you need to bite the bullet and take a risk.
still no responce from Chaintech, no automated email back...o'well...probly who ever got it had no idea what I meant by Vdimm lol
Yeah, the looks like its alright. Chaintech ain't a bad brand but just not known as great overclocking board, most of the time. Looks like a nice layout everything looks good on the board.
jjcom
why didnt' anybody rush ship this board so we could find out quickly!!!!!!!!1
b/c I'm already buried w/work to do and couldn't get to it
mine's here tomorrow.Quote:

I'm in no rush to get this thing going. I would need to pull my fiancee's 6600GT and her week 44 3200 if I plan on setting this thing up soon. If anyone sees a good deal on pci-e video card, please PM me. Also waiting on Venice to make its debut. I'm on my trusty dfi board/mobile for now.
sold out..... figures... i should have ordered yesterday dammit im so slow sometimes.. oh well ill have to catcht the next shipment. for now ill just watch and see how you guys make out with yours....
peace perc,
all i would like to see is the voltage options in the bios and stuff like that.
So what! no one has this board yet :D bring it fellas.. my chaintech VNF3 was the :banana::banana::banana: hopefully this translates..
You guys notice it's a chopped board? A
call me crazy but is it possible to take a razor and cut the end of a pci-e x1 slot so that it looks like the special one that MSI has? i doubt you would wreck the slot just by cutting off some plastic.
somebody should try this and see if it works and runs SLI.
I got mine in today. I am going to pop the heatsink off the chipset as soon as I get home so I can see if it's A3 NF4 Ultra. It looks like john beat me to it. Lets post our results in here. IT is indeed the GOOD A3 chipset rev.

My 6800GT should be arriving today. Hurray! If I can be the first to post voltages for you guys I will.
Awesome - 0447 Rev 3 chipset. If this doesn't clock well then I don't know what will.
Skip
There's a cap and other elements right where the rest of the card's PCI-E would be. It would work if there was empty space there.
Come on hurry up :D, I can't wait to see how far you guys can push your CPU's with the Chaintech board.
boads is installed
scores a bit lower than gigabyte at 200HTT in 3DMark2001se
I will have to recheck some bios setttings. I'm running 2k3 right now to see if pattern continues.
Cpu-Z can't read all ram timing either
will post pics in a bit
Ya if you could list voltage and overclocking adjustments you can do that would be awsome, and max overclock :P. This board is considerably lower in price than other nforce4 ultra's, and if it overclocks great, I'm buyin it.
gonna start new thread
Whats the deal with these new 24 pin power connectors, do you need a convertor to use a 20 pin connector??
GL with the board, maybe using A64 tweaker itll be same speeds standard?
Cheers
hehe, I just posted that in his other thread. I don't know if you are in the same situation as me. I'm sitting here looking at the thing wondering wtf to do.
I'm gonna be upgrading in January, didnt want a nasty surprise like that waiting for me and not knowing what to do. Hope u get it sorted soon so we can have more feedback on the new boards.
Dave
The new BTX standard PSU has 24 pins. I beleive it's also the old server PSU standard pin out also. It's just the 20pin socket with 4 extra pins on one side.Quote:

Guys at this point the board plain sucks, don't even bother with trying fake sli. caps are in the way and cutting pci-e makes no sense because the board clocks like crap on the current bios. I think neo4 is best option for fake sli since OPB has done it successfully. But If you want to take your chances soldering caps behind the pcb, be my guest.
trans am
No it's not worth it. I bet a new bios will fix the situation :D
There is a new BETA BIOS out today from Chaintech for the VNF4 that may fix your issues. It can be downloaded from their site at (http://www.chaintechusa.com/download/k8/VN210117.exe ), and the original BIOS that shipped with the board can also be downloaded from the site at (http://www.chaintechusa.com/download/k8/VN210C29.exe ). I have not had a chance to try the new BIOS yet, but hopefully I can later tonight. I am hoping it will solve a couple of problems that I have with it currently (I cannot overclock the board past 240HTT without it going to "safe mode", and I cannot take my RAM out of a 2T Command rate because I am running 4 sticks of 512MB in dual channel). The description on the site says that the BIOS deals with both issues, but I will have to see for myself later.Quote:
