Well I dunno if anyone noticed, but newegg just put the Asus nforce2 in stock like 2minutes ago, and they dropped the price to $150. B/c I NEED a motherboard, and this looks like a good one, I decided to go with it. If it needs volt mods, so be it. I'll do it. Since we have our godlike DDTUNG voltage mod mastar supreme of the universe with us I'm sure it'll be doable! Right man? :)

Your best bet on the mods would be to send DDTUNG the same mobo:D, it makes it much easier for him to figuer out.

Volt only goes to 2.8 V tho, and no, there arent any OC jumpers.. all the pics that were spread around were bogus , I can explain why if you ask me later :)

I think you can overclock the processor FSB independant of the MEM bus which is why I think these boards really will kill all. You won't need to buy those expensive corsair/crucial sticks anymore. Just get 2 sticks of fast average DDR266 memory that can run on the most aggressive timings and run the board in dual channel mode (which should feed any bandwidth needs).
Also what about the possibility someone made a board capable of going as far as 250~300Mhz FSB? Considering the Nforce2 has locked PCI/AGP dividers (along with MEM bus) it might be possible to hit PIV bus speeds. Just think about it, Barton @ 533Mhz FSB running dual channel DDR333 vs. PIV @ 533Mhz FSB on a granite bay board running the same dual channel config.

The cpu voltage can go only up to 1.85 on the asus, that's why you want to volt mod it, sysfailure?
My question may seems stupid, but as I also search for a nf2 board, to make my xp2200+ run at 10*200 (or 12*200 if it can handle that) with a slk800 rad... I think at 2.2ghz, a xp2200 need a bit more than 1.85v to run,no?
And grr, I want a nf2 mobo with both holes around the socket, and a highpoint raid controller *looking toward ABIT*!
It has an overvolt jumper according to the two people I've talked to that have them.
Also, really insane memory timing options too. you can run 1-1-1-4 if your memory can handle.
Of course, I mean the Asus board.
Hmm, have you talked to people that owned the boards, Hallowed ? becouse the pics that show a overvolt jumper are in error, unfortunately. And dont forget, the deluxe version has raid on the sata ports. So you could get a sata-pata converter, and run raid on those ports ! :)

sorry for delay guys, but here's the deal :
-no overvolt jumper. mem upto 2.8v / vcore upto 1.85v. however this board clocks much better at lower volts than kd7 / 8k9a2+. memory voltage mod should be easy. i think v-mem controller is located in upper right corner of mobo. if DDTung asks i can give some more details.
-bios is full of o/cing goodness. ram timings from cas1/1/1/1 to cas3/3/3/8. agp lock at 50mhz,60,66,67,68,69..... upto 100mhz in one mhz increaments. agp 8x can be disabled in bios as well. i tried it with ti4200 agp 8x.
- i was able to o/c 2700+ (unfortunately locked on this mobo) upto 13x191 ram@2.8v / v-core 1.85v. on air cooling.
- ram can be ran at insane speeds. 166fsb+ ram 33,66,100,133,200% !!! find me any ram able to at least post at over 300mhz/600ddr.
- agp voltage 1.5/1.6/1.7 which really helped this ti4200 to operate at 100mhz agp.
- IMO, this mobo is more stable than kd7. i think it's the first decent mobo from Asus, lol.

the distance from lower left corner mounting hole to the row of capacitors (5 of them) is around an inch - 22-25mm.

o m g. That's what describes the nforce2/2600+ I have.... As you guys know, 1.85 and 2.8 is all ya get... and up to 211mhz fsb (on the cpu, not the memory, you can go higher in percntages).
I did 211 x 12 AIRCOOLED!!! That my friends is 2520mhz! Temps were around 51-52C idle w/ a Vantec Aeroflow. Mind you though all this was done in the bios. It was stable though, it didn't lock up in the bios on me which is a good sign (shows I still have room left). I haven't plugged it into my HD yet, but I shall. Just wanted to make sure she works, and work it does!!!!!!!!!! I will have pictures of all the volt mod chips, and the board in great detail later today... I have to go pick up an ID now so I can accept prizes @ the AMD tour in philly if I win ;) :P
Can you post sandra bandwith @ 211 FSB plz ??
And how about PCI lock, is it works ??

Well the AGP lock works great. I stuck it on 66mhz for safetys sake. I will boost it up later. I am geussing, although I don't know, that the AGP lock also determines the PCI speed (just divided in half).Quote:

Also, like I had said, I don't have a hard drive plugged in yet. I will in like 4 hours or so... I have some things to do before I can get into it. I just booted it up to make sure the board worked. And it does ;)

Sysfailure... You have pluged your athlon, and... multiplier for the cpu were unlocked from the beginning, no problem??
Because as I have a xp2200, but a revA one, I wonder if I buy this board, will it be able to unlock it, because with SUCH an oc friendly board, 200*10 is a must have it seems for a 2200+ for a beginner oc.

I have put in my 2600+ and yes all the multipliers I have tried thus far have worked. There is an issue though that I'll have to sort out--some multipliers are showing up as like 7x/14x as in the same selection is the same multiplier... not like I'm gonna use 7, but I'm gonna figure out what works of the two.Quote:

Hey man can you do a couple of benches with the cpu fsb at 211 and the ram at 166fsb dual channel. I want to see how it holds up bandwidth wise or if there is a performance hit. Can't wait to see what results you get. Fill us in there hasn't been a decent review yet.
Even if there is say a 35% Scalability loss from not running sync, and from running dual channel (overhead between mem controllers) , its still 333 DDR * 2 = 5328 MB /sec * 0.65 = 3463,2 MB /Sec vs 3376 MB / Sec for Max CPU Bandwith which Should give a almost 100% full mem bandwith ... This mobo will be fun to experiment with .. and I am expecting some crazy "unbuffered" scores, you know when you put SiSoft to run pure bandwith tests, and it usually only reports like 1100 MB /Sec for 166.. I would assume those scores to improve tremndously (SP!) :)

That's what I'm thinking and if we had the option to run the cpu at 300mhz fsb and run the ram at 60% or 200fsb dual channel that would really open up the pipes. I'm just interested on how bandwidth holds up when the cpu fsb is run asychronously higher than the ram speed. I guess it won't be long now before we find out. I hope epox or someone else allows higher than 211fsb though.
Abit promised 17 MHz higher then the competition, so I am expecting ATLEAST 228 MHz, which would rock :)) I think we are getting somewhere with this platform :)

it looks like all of these nforce2 motherboards use the ATXP1 chip from http://www.attansic.com.tw/ to control the cpu voltage. the trick will be finding the way to mod the circuit for this chip.

i've tried 1T with my XMS3000 which does 243fsb on unlocked P4 chip, but @ these timings it won't even post, lol. you gotta agree with me that this mobo clocks better than kt400:) it's rock solid too.
if i had to list all the features this mobo offers, i would have to spend whole night typing... 5.1 soundstorm sound, LAN nVidia, LAN 3Com, 1394 ports, SATA.........etc etc.
Well... sorry for the late reply.... I couldn't get to working on my comp till about 2 hours ago. And since then I've hosed the OS! Hahah! I had it running windows fine and dandy, but when I had it @ 207x12.5=2380mhz it didn't seem to like taht and went buck wild on me. After that it wouldn't boot... BUT I did get a mem bench in @ that and I got ~ 3250/3060 I believe. That was dual-channel, cas 2-5-2-2 (cpu set at "agressive").
I also took some pictures at some chips on the board which may be the voltage chips. I will post thost in a few minutes.. gotta load em in.
I see a great future for this board. I just need more voltage methinks. I am running 1 GB of memory... so I would assume more voltage = better to power everything sufficiently. I also didn't have my heatspreaders on. I suppose I'll put those on and see if it helps.
Overclocking on the 2600+ is mixed so far. I have a feeling this chip is gonna own, b/c I did have it in windows semi-stable @ 2380 @ only 1.85v.... at like 55C. That's my problem, heat and voltage right now. Previously I had my 2400+ at 2.08v @ 52C @ 2339mhz.. that was my best aircool. You can see the difference I'm sure.
Anywho, just wanted to let everyone know, yes it IS working, and it's great so far. I have some learning/testing to do on it (and some modifications) but it's gonna pwn I tell you!
Heat-wise, the northbridge got to around 35C after running it for 2 hours or so @ medium load.
Let's see... what else.. the capacitors are pretty close yes in one spot, and I might cut them off and rewire them a bit for when I put the prommy in, but for right now it's not an issue.
And lastly, although this is off topic--when I get my new hard drive replacements, my case is going to be so jam packed full of crap.. seriously gonna be one of the tightest fit (but everything fits) cases I've ever owned.
No need for a seperate thread, I'll just keep all my antics in here. This isn't related to the mobo, but it is related to the cpu ON the mobo.
More voltage on both mem and cpu and this beast would be rock solid.

you mean to say your 2600+ is unlocked on this mobo? without paint job? my 2700+ won't post at anything under 13x.
Becouse , even if all of thease T-Breads come unlocked, this mobo isnt specially prepped, like som KT400, so only the higher multipliers are unlocked.. you could switch down to lower multipliers (5 - 12.5) instead by doing a L5 job :)

Well I didn't see a insocket probe.. so.. I would assume it's ondie. The agp/pci lock, I was going to test yesterday but hosed the OS. Reinstalling as we speak! And no I haven't, but I will again today if my OS doesn't explode like yesterday.
Guys i got some bad news. the AGP lock does NOT affect the pci.

I'm so tired of motherboard manufacturers :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana: footing arond the specs until they get it on the market especially Epox tech at that site . Man that site is annoying as §§§§. So I guess there is no locked pci on the nforce 2. Then is the highest divider available still 1/5th like the kt333. I knew this was too good to be true. They don't want too much of a speed increase. Small increments so they can milk you for every cent.
I know exactly how you feel man if there was a PCI lock then the Nforce 2 would be the be all endall Socket A board and we would be able to keep it until the Barton maxed out and we are all forced to upgrade to hammer.
i know that is what i was planning to do. here is what i was going to do...
buy a AMD 1800+ tbred on Monday, watercool it to 2050mhz or more if i can.
use that till may or so until the Bartons go down in price cause Hammer is released. Buy the fastest Barton, and keep it for a while.
i would have been able to do all of this on NF2 cause of the great features but no more. the PCI lock was the best feature of the boar IMHO. i dont wanna upgrade to a Maxtor either, which can support crazy high fsbs. my western digital will only do 195fsb but it is such a high quality drive besides that. 100gig w/ 8mb cache mmmmm
I really wonder, is the Serial Bridge affected by the pci (I know it is) BUT are the serial channels affected by it too, or would a Pata converter allivate those troubles ? :)

Well there is no "1 or 2T" timings (the one we're familiar with on kt333/kt400 boards) so my timings were... cas2 522. 2.8v and 2 x 512mb XMS3500.Quote:

Looks like pin 9 of L6917BD for Vcore and pin 6 of 6520 for Vmem, unless we somehow trigger overcurrent, then it is a bit more complicated and I'll have to work around it.:)

Instead of relying on an external clock, with an elaborate clock forwarding scheme and synchronization of data and strobe signals, Serial ATA is using an "embedded" clock meaning that the data themselves act as clock signal or rather as synchronizers for the internal receivers at both ends of the transmission. Thats the explenation I was looking for. Becouse of that, if you use SATA drivers or SATA-PATA converter on the serial controller, you wont be affected by too high PCI BUS, meaning, PCI Divider becomes irrelevant (Except if you are using some special add-on card ! )

Thats interesting I didn't know sata wasn't effected by pci speeds. What do you do about dvd players and cd burners? Is there enough serial ports to use all these devices on and can anything other than a hard drive be used on them?

I don't have access to 201, but I can set it to 200. And if you wanna see that it's on page 2 ;) Also, let's not forget that there may be some new drivers (hopefully like the det 40.xx jump) which may boost performance later down the road :) And I haven't done any WPCREDIT tweaks. The bandwidth thus far is looking fairly decent.

I cant bench more than 1800 on the cpu
and diferent Cpu mhz means a diferent sandra sp1 mem bench

Just curious, does your BIOS show accurate temps? I'm thinking my mobo has whacked out temp sensor and is triggering the new ASUS C.O.P. CPU overheat protection...
And where is the option to use dual channel ddr...I didn't see it in BIOS??? Or was that because I only had one stick in?

I believe the BIOS temps are diode temps (for my proc, dunno bout others (mine=2600+)) and I get 54-55C in bios. So yeah I'd say those are accurate. You need two sticks of DDR (I geuss put in the blue ram slots (that's what I did at least) and it's automatically twin channel then, no bios option needed.Quote:

Sysfailure, could you do me an enormous favor please?....Simply boot at 200mhz fsb, launch sisoft, and check in the Mainboard information the speed of the pci bus at this fsb clock....I don't know how accurate sisoft is, but I'd like to really be sure that at 200mhz fsb, what is the pci speed.

If all goes well I will check again. I had thought that I had checked but apparently I missed the mhz frequencies or something. I know that's a real big issue right now.. if the pci is indeed locked, or if it's unlocked. I have set the AGP to 75mhz in the bios, so if it works it would be @ 37.25mhz PCI I geuss?
Or if it is indeed only a 1/5th divider I'd be at what, 40mhz pci?

Yes I am reasonably sure. Just make sure you start with the resistances I recommended, monitor Vcore and Vmem after each adjustment, and decrease the resistances gradually.:)

Everyones having great luck with theirs and mines getting rma'd on Monday. The diodes or BIOS is screwy! I reinstalled the hs/f 3 times and the ASUS probe read 36C! And the BIOS says 90-100C, LOL !But this board has a CPU shut-off that's non-disable (able) So............
We'll see.

3 dimm on a nforce2 yelds the best results in performance
but im thinking that to achieve the optimul results of performance using both channels one should use ram slots 1 & 3 (black--#2blue)
ohh and to take advantage of dual channer DDr on nforce 2 one should use one dimm in a black slot and the other on a BLUE SLOT
black slot ---> dimm1
(each color for a diferent channel)

Hhaha awesome! Hopefully I haven't been! I will try black/blue. Ya know, on the original nforce it was first and third or you'd get crappy performance--like 700mb/s difference. I thought though that b/c they were both blue slots that those are the ones you'd need to use :PQuote:

The DDR voltage is NOT displayed though in the bios :\
Think I ought to email/call Asus about that and ask if they can make a bios w/ that monitoring in it.
