Does anyone have any experience with overclocking a 6800GT. Mine is a Point of view. I haven't tried overclocking it yet... :p: but I do want to know what to expect. The card only has one power connector so I think this might be a limiting factor, it has its own power line though. My PSU is a themrlatake butterfly 480W (should be enough).
Well I think I have the worst of the bunch :mad: It seems like most will hit Ultra speeds (400/1100), but mine isn't even close. Tried the core twice at 375MHz and it locked in 3D :upset: Haven't bothered trying lower yet (or the memory) as it's so piss-poor. Btw, it is PNY made.

400/1025-430/1150 depending on rig and other factors.
I had a Chaintech 6800GT that ran 435-1100 Stock cooler, stock v.
Pretty nice looking card too.

My eVGA with 1.4 volt bios and NV silencer 5 will run 440/1200, but its not 100% stable, just benches. I run it 420/1150 day to day.

Should of gotten Gainward Golden Sample. It does 400/1100 just like Ultra model right out of the box. Research helps alot.

My EVGA would only do 370/1100 at stock settings. Upping the voltage to 1.4 got me to 400/1100 and putting a Danger Den NV-68 block on it got me to 460/1200. That's a 100% stable speed, I can do 473ish/1230-1250 for a bench run but I get artifacting.

temps are remarkably good 56c idle
XFX GT at 430/1175 for 24/7 but will do 445/1225 for benching stock cooled. The best one i had was a PCI-E reference design from nVidia that could do 450/1230 out of the box.

I'll try overclocking later probably the weekend, I don't have a lot of time on weekdays.
And yes I didn't fully research it but as you can see from my bio I live in Belgium and not all cards are carried everywhere. Price is an important factor (even for 400€ gfx cards) I know gainwards are probably good (looked at the golden sample with watercooling review on tomshardware but come on, really... that things costs 900€ the heatsink they use is made by Innovatek and will fit perfectly with my watercooling system so maybe I'll upgrade to that. For now I got a waterblock on the GPU and passive OCZ copper BGA ramsinks on the memory.
For now I want to get my A64 overclock stable seems I need more than 1,65v for 2,5 ghz. And past 2,55 ghz even 1,7v isn't always stable... (next paycheck is goiing to a winchester core). At 2,5 ghz and stock gfx speeds i get a bit over 23000 3D01 marks. 3Dmark won't boot and gives me failures immediatly or stops after test one and gives error failure. I don't know what this is I had the same problem with my 9800 pro maybe it's cpu or ram or install (although I did reinstall 3Dmark03 and its update....) Could it be a problem with the 3dnow feature from the cpu?? (sorry first AMD)
Leadtek 6800GT (A400TDH): 440/1170 max, 420/1100 normal use.
i have leadtek 6800Gt...i use it 400/1120 daily...
gainwards don't use special cores or anything, 90% of cores do ultra speeds probably, as this thread shows. They overcharge a load, on previous cards i seem to recall they used slightly higher voltages(minimally higher) to get those clocks and charged WAY more than they should of for what is essentially programming the bios to start at higher speeds than using power strip, rivatuner or whatever else to set those speeds yourself.
THey have always been overpriced, and stupid and just a waste of space company. They do nothing different, just mad random crap. IE a 5700 ultra watercooled for some £500 or something, when a silently cooled x800's were available for half the cost. If you think a company that uses that kind of logic deserves your cash, thats great for you.
my 6800gt leadteks pci-e in sli do 430/1050 together, not tried separately. they get pretty warm, not to bad though, not sure if one has bad mem but both clock well on the core and get a massive increase in benchies from 350-430 increase.
AS a warning to anyone that was going to try, i tried these cards in an MSI board yesteday, the slots are so close the sinks touch on the leadteks, if you look at leadteks shroud you would be able to see the fan grill and shroud would prevent any airflow at all onto the 2nd card. AS it was i'd already removed the shrouds for better cooling, and even with 2 80mm fans cooling the cards they were burning hot to touch and at some 85C or so in windows just after boot. If they were game stable i'd be very surprised.
Air cooling + leadteks on anythin other than the asus right now is impossible. Not sure how many cards you could use, i know the msi's have single slot coolers. Anyone know if inno3d use single slot coolers? i wanted to get the dfi and have one preordered but just can't use these cards on that board.
Sli = very poorly thought out but nvidia, and board manu's, only asus had the slight sense to increase the gap between the cards, why any of the others didn' think of that i don't know.
Also you really can't stick anything in the first pci slots underneath the cards, maybe not 2 slots. i can't qiute believe anyone over at nvidia thought this was the best way to go about it.
I'm gonna guess ati will scrap it after the next month or two sees numerous rma's for overheating cards and boards that really just can't be used fully. or they'll just sort out the design of the boards so people can fit two cards in. Of course with mainly single slot ati designs they'll probably be better off anyway.

i got a pny 6800gt too - i got that very crapy cheap paste - did u get those dodgy pads in between ur ram and ur heatsink which dont actually touch em? - pathetic card - replaced the heatsink straight away with an a.c. one - still only does 412/1.14 - how do i up the voltage?Quote:

Use nibitor to change the bios, or just download another bios and flash it. Gainward 6800GT GS-bios uses 1.4v. It workes on my card (Aopen), but of course, it might not work for you. Take a backup before you flash.Quote:

The abosolute HIGHEST i can get is 418/1.14, any higher and i start getting artifacts. Its even watercooled :(. Limit of the GPU perhaps?

its a little better than avg.
mine is at 420/1145. and this is with a psu that undervolts 12V rail to 11.7 so i think it has room for more once i get a new psu.

Default volts, cooling at 50%.
For 24/7, 430/1180 was the max without any crashes during any prolonged testing or gaming. For benchmarking the max was 440/1202. It would easily have gone higher, as i could reach 450/1000 or 350/1220 benchable. Seems to me it was either throtling or not getting enough juice :(

What is the "power mod" mentioned above?
While it's not really a 6800gt, with my 6800 softmodded to 16/6 i can reach 440. Nets me just over 12,000 3dmarks, with a 1.5v BIOS. Still got nice low temps though, just shy of 70c.

Hm, interesting. My GT does 1200 instead of 1100 on the memory now. It's a Socket A mobo now and the PSU is 520W OCZ instead of a 550W Antec as seen in my sig.
