Right lads,
The system is now ready to be beated in the overclocking stakes, however, I have never played with an AMD before so I need some breaking in ;)
I have OCZ Platinum 3200 Rev.2 TCCD, 3500+ Winchester, Mach II GT, Neo2.
These are the timings I set in the Bios, however, what are the final two figures and what should they be set to when I overclock?

This bloody system wont boot with the Mach II cooling on it!!
Only boots when the STOCK HSF is on??
Anyone know why>? Is it the board or the CPU?
look in bios for option: shut down when cpu fan fails ...or something like that. otherwise just plug in a fan in the cpu fan header
I already had a fan running off the CPU fan header on the mobo :(
What else can I try?
how about cpu disconnet function? CPU thermal throttling? just disable the if its available :D
can't help.. but that must be hard.. such a nice system and not able to have fun with it :(

but heard about problems with that board/winchesters/however + subzero... but thought it's only that they can't read the temp or something like that...

Okay, welcome to the club. I got another winchester chip and 2 more mobo (1 MSI and 1 Gigabyte K8NS Ultra) today to figure out wth is going on. But waiting on CPU atm. Also in line are 3 PSU to test with Ultra X connect 500W, OCZ PS 520W, Enermax Coolergiant 380W. Some people did complain about OCZ PS not working well before so I figured having some other PSU handy would be nice.Quote:

Only thing I changed back when I got it up was on air with different PSU. I thought it was cooling... but not 100% certain atm.

Apparently there is another firmware to download / flash for mach II's when u get start up issues with SK8V etc. But i havent tried that yet as the Mach II gets to temp straight away, just PC doesnt seem to like the cold??
That was my initial guess but the problem is... There ARE people running phase change with no problem at all it seems. What does that bios fix anyway? I've dl'ed it but haven't bother looking into it yet. Maybe changing start temp? As for bios I was asking you which revision of K8N Neo2 bios you were trying on... :P It didn't make diff to me but it might for you... just wondering.

I don't know if its a CPU problem, try flashing to the latest bios. MDZCPA has a FX-55 running on NEO2 using a MK II, try pming him if all else fails.
Something about CPU fan connectors? :stick: :confused:

think it is more of issue of winchester... no one ever had problem with booting up like this sub zero temp under 130nm 939 solutions.Quote:

Thats a WInnie issue.. someone else(charlie?) posted that he tried winchesters and NC under same Mach setup..only NC boot. :(

I am in the same board - bought the Neo2 and the A8V.
The good news is that is you want a Winny and Mach2 there is an option, my Rev 2 WiFi edition (1007 bios) works fine with the Mach2 (usig the A64 latest firmware). The unit will correctly keep the mobo off until -33c is reached and will correctly power the board
The A8V will post and run with the Mach2 in place, and more importantly will read correct temps in both bios and MBM5 (-20c idle) : before i tried the Neo2 (#ucking killed 2 of my expensive PSU's before ripping in out in disgust) I was getting fine temps
Waiting for a new PSU then will try the A8V again - was getting some instability but am 99% sure that was down to bios options, incompatible high LL ram (OCZ 4200EL) - will be using 1gb of Ballistix this time.
Would be interested to see you results jinu117 with that equipment - good luck :toast:
my msi boards dont' seem to hold reset so they will post straight off. I tried both FX53 and 0.09u 3500+. Both posted fine with Mach`1 modded by chilly1. However, my mounting is screwing do to that rather large mosfet in the way, and I was having problems b/c of that.
Am I happy to read your post :p: Just ordered an Asus A8V and a 3200+ Winchester. Got afraid it wouldn't work with my Mach II. But you reassured me. Thank you very much :DQuote:

MSI just won't cooperate at low temp, so won't Giga's K8NS Ultra.
Oh yes, they both will post if I do CMOS reset but once I try something other than that... no go.
Just hoping A8V might be the fix doctor ordered. If it isn't, this gives us interesting situation where it might be actual chip that is preventing booting. Since this particular CPU and 2 other 3200+ winchester I tried would refuse to boot sub zero temp. (They ALL were fine on air though) at which point, I believe the problem just multiplies.
This is sooo annoying!
AMD told me today that the CPU's are not "supposed" to be run at negative temps and that I was silly to do so!! LOL
He therfore wouldnt comment on the Winnie in particlular!
It seems alot of people are having this problem tho, I'm very tempted to swap this 3500+ Winchester for a 3500+ Newcastle, just for an easy life :)
i wonder if there is a new stepping out? ive had 2 winchesters so far and only the newest one works under the ls and neo2 :confused:

Where are we with this guys - is there a problem I should know about regards the Mach II?? (now Prometeia 2) or is it cpu related/bios related? This sort of info is invaluable as I can take it to the manufacturer if its a major issue.

Chances of them fixing it... slim to none. I don't even think most of newcastle temp issue back from old core is even fixed on most mobo. I finally throw my towel now that I've tried 3 different boards (5 in total).

PS) In retrospect, this could be diode in CPU working in conjunction with bios. I am gueesing when it goes beyond bios limit, there is somekind of link missing between CPU and diode... thus erroring out is my logical guess.
esoteradactyl: was there a difference in stepping between the CPU's that worked and didn't? or even different weeks? mine here is a CBBFD 0432 and it dont work. mine makes it to windows then freezes under LS. Somtimes rebooting, mostly not. and again only under LS.
anyone else with similar stepping or week? or could this just be any random CPU?
0437 doesn't work either.

Step 8 reports to have fixed the Temp shutdown? Does that mean that it helps the SUBZERO booting issues?
Don't use the 1.37 ( 1.3B7 ;) ) the 1.35 & 1.36 are betters :D.

Newcastles work great with Phase change. I had a 3500 newcastle in my board, and traded it for this winchester.Quote:

I have the CPU stable at 2.55ghz on stock volts on the stock cooler, im sure if we could make these work with the Phase change systems we would be lookig at 3.2ghz!!!

yeah definitely. Non of bios even modded 1.37 boots 90nm.
However, newcastle boots just fine :P (yes I got one).
I liked the way how evap is sitting on Neo2... getting easily 5c temp better than the unoptimized way on evap temp :P...
Just setting things up... since I am moving from S754 just minor driver installation is required... in fact, just testing stability of system now.
Now... how the hell do you guys mount fan over RAM on this thing? My EB will heat up nicely once booster goes in.

Its a Zalman BR123 you can attatch upto 3 fans to it, it fixes onto your PCI screws and doesnt get in the way of anything but a 92mm fan will reach the RAM perfectly :)

Blast me... I was using the exact thing on my rig... in fact I have few of them laying around... I just couldn't use it normally on K8NE (S754 setup) so it didn't even register my mind when I got my 939 setup... lol

Absolutely... I think I tried just about everything imaginable. A full roll of seal string used confirms to that. I am running low on seal string now... next upgrade probably is mach II baker block mod so I won't have to worry about seal string ever once it runs out.Quote:

The 130nm 3500+ I got seems to be a jewel. I will find out how it does end of day but... default voltage, it is priming @ 2.76ghz right now for last 20 mins. Should LDT be 3x once I go over 250FSB? :P I am thinking maybe I don't need winchester to hit the magical 3ghz for myself at least. My stable OC is usually 50-100mhz above prime stable... so I have feeling I will be just fine.

Random thing or most of them. 3 winchesters 3 duds for me. In fact, majority of people got winnie here with phasecooling isn't working out. Of course, it is not statiscaly viable as there aren't too many yet. We shall see how things unfolds.
On the winnie the temp reads 200c under -20 odd, thats the PROBLEM!!!
I had tested it fully and thats why they will not boot. Run you unit to -15 and boot the system manually. It will boot. Then enter the monitor in the bios and watch it yourself as the unit chills lower. It will spike to 200c odd and lock hard.
If you get the vcore up striaght away you can just run it.
MSI update the bios to ignore this error please :D
